Let's just say it doesn't suck...too badly. Admittedly, there is a certain suckage value. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7n_L5crWujQ Peace, ~Sam I can't wait to see it. I won't watch it here at work, but as soon as I get home. THanks so much for your hard work. Nancy |

Regular 61 | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread oregonducks - 2010-11-30 1:45 PM OK. If you all (or as they say here in TX, y'all) can get to the pool, I will make the effort to start swimming. It's the hardest part of tri for me to train for. Just looking at a black line for hours on end leaves me wanting more. I know - no whiners. THanks for the motivation. That's the spirit! I agree, swimming is the hardest part to train for. My problem is that i hate it I swam competitively for 9 years between high school and college and it has never been easy for me to get into a cold, wet pool and work my butt off, but it is even harder now that I don't have a coach or teammates, and there are dozens of annoying screaming kids running around the pool and jumping into my lane at random times. Despite my loathing, I too have bitten the bullet and started back into the pool. My off season swimming consists of lots of drills, kicking and sculling. I only do probably 1 hard set a week (during 2-3 2000 yard swims per week), and all the rest is focused on my form. Until last week I hadn't swum since IMLOU, and I found out that my form needs a lot of TLC! Just remember, good drills put in now will result in less energy wasted on race day. TriSam - Nice video! I wish I had seen that video this time last year. No doubt it will be very useful for any first timers out there. |

I hope to meet more BTers next year. I did get to meet a few but not all. Have a little surgery Friday to get things out of the way for next year then I start training in 2 weeks. |

Expert 868 CALEDONIA/MIDDLEVILLE, MICHIGAN | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Thanks for all the kind words and support regarding my video. I hope the next ones are decent too, but I'm a bit nervous about it because not much will be cooler than an on location report. I'm a good 6.5 hours away from that possibility now. Nevertheless, I'll try to have fun with it and hopefully it will be mildly entertaining next time. On another note...indoor trainer ride in the a.m. for :30 min. and back to the pool in the p.m. Peace, ~Sam |

Being a first timer for Louisville, heck first timer for an IM it is nice to get a view of the upcoming things. Right now I'm in the holiday glutton training phase. Eating everything in sight that I can't eat once training starts. Doing a bit of swiming an indoor cycling but that's about it for now. Peter |

I've heard that before, but don't really like drills. But I know they improve form. I'm a runner - to run faster you either increase cadence, or lengthen stride. That does not work in swimming. It's also nice to know I'm not the only one who thinks of the pool as cold and wet. Hard to talk myself into it, but once there, really not so bad. Happy training. Nancy |

Expert 868 CALEDONIA/MIDDLEVILLE, MICHIGAN | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Another point to consider: Before doing Louisville in 2009, I found it very helpful to read the race reports of other athletes. I encourage you to do the same. I think I read all of the 2008 reports, but you obviously don't need to be crazy like me. If you are curious, here is my 2009 report. http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=178735 Peace, ~Sam |

For example it took me 30 minutes to get into the water last year so I only had 16h 30m to finish the race. Edited by rwsads 2010-12-01 9:42 AM |

Extreme Veteran 346 Lafayette, IN | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread It appears from vidoes on youtube that the swimline moves pretty fast. How far back where you in line and what time did you have to get there to get that spot. I was told by another person that did IMLOU last year that many people just walked up to where they thought they should be and got in line. |

I was told by another person that did IMLOU last year that many people just walked up to where they thought they should be and got in line. I went to transition as soon as it opened to check my tires and drop off my drinks for the day.
Then I walked to the end of the swim line. I believe I was there about an 1:15 before the start and I was at the sidewalk on River road.
There is no real seeding you just go to the end of the line. |

Expert 868 CALEDONIA/MIDDLEVILLE, MICHIGAN | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread This is an important point. I got to transition as early as possible (it opened at 5:00 a.m. in 2009). I arrived around 4:50 a.m. and found it open, so I just checked my tires and walked to the swim start. If people did just walk up and get in line wherever they thought they should be after I had arrived and it was in front of me, I would be annoyed (that's the polite word I'll use) because I arrived early to get the slot I had. I was not aware of that happening. |

Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread So I'm trying to plan my race season leading up to LOU... my coach suggested two 70.3s. Pretty sure I will sign up for Kansas 70.3 on June 12, but I need to pick another, preferably in July. What other races are you guys doing, those who live "in the middle" of the country? I need to be able to drive there (8 hours or less from Kansas), and am open to independent races. Suggestions or recommendations? Muncie and Racine are both about a 12-hour drive for me. It would be nice to not have to drive 24 hours to race. Edited by lisac957 2010-12-01 12:08 PM |

I just decided NOT to pull the trigger on Cozumel due to time / money. I could drive to KY....this is tempting. I was going to register for Steelhead. Maybe I'll just do this instead. Better decide fast! |

Well, I wasn't anywhere near there but, swim number two is done and I've got to be headed in that direction, otherwise I'm just getting my chlorine fix. Peace. |

They just announced the American Zofingen Triathlon (1.5mi/69mi/15mi) 5 weeks out from KY. Very excited about this. Finding a HIM on the east coast in that time frame had been very tough. This slightly longer race on a brutal course should be fabulous prep! edit: turns out they didn't just announce it, but only just added it to their website. Same idea I guess. I'm thinking about the one in May, 5, 84, 15 - Obviously it's too far out from IMKY but it will be fun! |
