It's killing me that I'm not doing this race...I waited too long to sign up! If anyone knows of any way to participate (perhaps a Charity spot, or ??), please let me know!

I'm doing the Full Vineman in July and wanted to do a Half between now and mid-May; this one would be perfect!

Thanks!

Sounds good.  Might be others from around here that would like to join again.  I can put the word out.  I think we started later last time, but rolling out at 8:15 (meet at 8?) would work for me.

Don't get me wrong, later is fine too    Means I get more sleep (or more coffee).  I was just saying 8:15 is likely my roll out time on race day.  I'll have the whole day set aside so not in any hurry.

Just checked my logs for those interested, it was 42 miles r/t last time.  Maybe a couple more if anyone goes up Cristianitos.

I wish I could make it down again this year, but it's not going to workout for me.  March is going to go by too quick!

Sorry you will have to miss the preview, Destroyer.  Congrats on a pretty impressive Desert tri!

Chris - looking forward to next weekend.  Should we just meet in the big lot by the harbor?  The one through the tunnel under the train tracks on the left?

2 weeks i think it is....  Whatever the best place to meet is fine, last time we were up above the pier, I think?  Might be better for the run, but I guess there's time restrictions there?

Also never finalized a time.  9 too late?

9 is not too late for me.  I'm about 45 minutes away from the harbor and I know you're a lot farther.  You're right - last time we parked very close to what will be T2, above the pier and the expo location.  I don't think there's a time limit for parking there, but I'm not convinced those lots are the safest to leave our bikes after rolling back in and heading out for the run.  Last time we moved our vehicles over to the pier, fed meters and did our run from there.

Regardless, we should definitely run up and down the ramp to the pier.  I rode past it on Saturday and checked it out.  The ramp is not long at all, but it looks pretty steep.

And yes, 2 weeks - not this weekend.  Sat, 3/17, right?  9:00 a.m.?  +/-3 hr ride, 1 hr run?

Sounds good.  Agree about the parking, probably safer over near the harbor, away from the disaffected youth    We can always run across the bridge to start

Bib numbers are posted on the participant list and the main page has waivers to print out and bring in to cut down time at packet pick up.

Desert Tri went great, but it looks like I wasn't the only one from my age group putting in work over the winter.  Oceanside is going to be a battle.

Thanks Doug.

Adding to the nerves, is it too early to start checking the 10 day forecasts?  (Yes, i know it won't be accurate even 2 days beforehand but isn't this a time honored ritual????)

BTW, just saw on the event schedule that they've added a Friday optional run gear drop off from 2-7.  Yay!   Makes my race morning a little easier....

Yeah, you can ride the "front side" from the main gate to Las Pulgas. Need to do an ID check at each entry. I think the hours may be limited during the week, but Sats are usually open. I'm planning on riding through this weekend, so I can report back.

Does anyone have a picture of the first big hill on the base? I've heard about it but have never seen it.

It usually is not advisable to take pictures of Marine Corps bases.

There was a ride report by someone I found a couple years ago of the backside of Camp P that had a photo of it...  can't seem to find it now.  Of course, photos never do reality justice

Do they sell finisher gear specific to Oceanside? Is there a certain time that they start selling it? The thread on the main page got me thinking about how they do it for the 70.3 races.

I rode up through base today.  No problem at the main gate.  Just an ID check.  Beautiful day for a ride out there.

How far into the ride do they allow you to go?

If you look at the course map, you can ride everything on teh west side of the loop from south to north and back, except for the little out and back at Las Pulgas

Currently looks like a chance of rain for Sat pre ride, stay tuned since the forecast is apt to change.  If it's raining I won't be riding it

You can pretty much ride the first 25 miles of the course.  You can't enter the base at the same point as we will on race day, but there's really not much of a difference starting at the Main Gate.  The biggest issue is that the part we can ride is just the easiest part.  The tough part starts shortly after reentering base at Christianitos (basically where we have to turn around when previewing).

Here's our preview from last year: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/74146622

Here's the course: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/76808726
