cdban66 - 2012-05-18 9:54 AMLove the pic of Slammer, what a great looking dog. And it looks like he is ready to run more. Too cool!
Yeah he really enjoys running and I have trouble leaving him behind when I want to do faster runs, he doesn't get much faster than 10 min/miles. But I prefer to run with him than without and am ok if that means I'm all BOP on the run.

Dude. I don't get much faster than 10-minute miles. And that's for a sprint

Sweet pup. Definitely worth a door or two.

Yanti,

You have to be F#@*! kidding me!  I'm so sorry you're going through that.  If I had the $$ and resources I'd get on a F#@*! plane and help you will all that cr*p!

I know what it's like to care for an ill person, I took care of my mom the last two months of her life before I took her to hospice (she had lung cancer and PAD going on at the same time).

You're in my prayers dear!

God help me. I asked the nurse to check her catheter, and the nurse asks me, do you have any wet wipes?

WTF? Is this a hospital?

I'm just going to do it myself.

Yanti, I am speechless.  Honestly don't know what to say.  What you have described I have only seen in a movie, and I always assume it was for dramatic effect.  Thank goodness you are able to be there to care for your mom.  And that you have some help from your brother.  I am glad to hear that she is doing somewhat better.  I'm also grateful that you an animal lover and will find care for the dog too.

Take strength from all of us, and please remember that you must care for yourself first or you are no help to anyone else.

Wow. So much going on with my POD-mates.  I truly do pray for each of you and your loved ones.

Yanti, I can't even imagine and wish I could be there to help you. I will continue to pray for you and your Mom (which is better than any physical assistance I could give).

On a happy note.  I went for my first run today with my new iPhone and was using the MapMyRun app.  At the end of my run I like to lay for a few minutes, drinking my chocolate milk, with my legs up a wall to clear out the swelling, lactic acid etc.  So I lay down and looked at the MMR app to check my stats and it brings up an ad that made my day. It was an ad that said Ironman champion Mirinda (with a picture of her) refuels with chocolate milk. Got milk? So It was a nice connection after my effort, especially since I was drinking a carton of chocolate milk!

Have a wonderful day Manatees.  You are in my prayers.

Yanti,I too offer my outrage, disbelief, good thoughts and prayers. It must seem like you're having a nightmare that you just can't awaken from ( please ignore the bad grammar). Beating a few heads together may help wake you and even if it doesn't, it'll make you feel better.

Oh, I meant to ask you all about something.  At the "risk" of adding to everyone's already lengthy prayer list... my beautiful 24 year old niece (lives in Salina, KS for you Kansicans) was diagnosed with lymphoma on Wednesday.  Like so many of us, I know way too many people who have battled cancer, some won, some fought valiantly until the end.  I've lost 2 family members in the last two years to cancer, one was leukemia, one was lung cancer (he was the niece's uncle, passed last week). So I am considering doing a Team In Training event.  I went to a meeting after my cousin passed a few months ago.  I'm unsure (nervous) about the fundraising but right now feel a strong desire to DO SOMETHING!  Anyone done or know someone who did?  What are your thoughts?

Thanks for listening. I might ask in COJ but feel so comfortable with y'all.

Very sorry to hear about your niece, TJ.  I have done many a fundraising event.  Not specifically T.I.T., but not sure if you are asking that?  Best recommendation--ask EVERYONE to contribute.  You will be surprised how many people you barely know will help out.  Think outside the box--I had pub nights, raffles.  I made $700 one night, raffling off the chance to shave my head, for the Weekend to End Breast Cancer.  It takes some work, but it is worth it!!

Asalzwed - 2012-05-18 10:33 AM Alright my MAD MANATEES, what great things are you all going to do this weekend?

I am 'racing' on Monday (long weekend up here).  I put it in quotes because it is not an A race; maybe not even a B.  This will be my second 750m swim in racing situation.  The first time, my first tri, I ended up breast stroking the whole thing and was really disappointed.  Inexperienced.  So my goal for this one is to control my stroke and feel 'competitive' (compared to me) on the swim.  The bike and run I will take it easy.  A friend had asked me to do a tri with them, but didn't want to do this one (that I had already signed up for) because of the longer swim.  So I agreed to do a race with her the following Saturday.  Don't need any injuries, so will just have some fun out there in both.

Unfortunately, after a week of beautiful weather, it is supposed to rain on Monday.  That means I should go with less pressure in my tires right?

Thanks Kirsten.  I've often wondered about making my racing "bigger than myself" just as Macca and so many others do.

As for my weekend it will be busy with life-stuff so my training will be squeezed in as time is available...

Taking the kiddo to a free tri clinic Sat. morning to practice for his first tri which is on June 2nd.

Other than that, I have to work all weekend  I teach lifeguard classes in the spring.  I don't like giving up my weekends, but I do love the extra cash.

Prayers to your niece.  How shocking.  I am doing the Rev3 Half Full (the Olympic distance) in October with Team Fight, which is the name of the group who fundraises for the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults.  Just throwing that out there as another alternative to Team in Training.  I need to work on my fundraising for that, have some money raised, but need to do more.  I like the ideas Claire gave, may need to 'steal' them!

I had the Mad Manatees with me at the pool last night.  Thought of Yanti and her 'crushing the box' analogy to keep my stroke in line, thought of Jo and her awesome swim workouts, and - here's the really funny one - heard Herman's Hermits singing 'Henry the Eighth' on the pool's sound system and thought of ALLEN!  And then of course the song managed to wedge itself into my head for the rest of the night and into today. "Second verse, same as the first!"

Tomorrow is my first sprint of the season, can't wait!!

Asalzwed - 2012-05-18 1:33 PM Alright my MAD MANATEES, what great things are you all going to do this weekend?

Going to a Bike to Work event tonight, hope to get in good with some of the local cyclist advocacy groups for next years PUT, with Hopefully a run when I get home.  HAPPY NATIONAL BIKE TO WORK DAY!!!

Sprint tri this sunday but definitely a B or C race, just going to go hammer it and see where it lies to better prep for the one in July.  After that yard work and pick up DW when she gets in on Sunday

Yanti- I am more than willing to come help with tar and feathering but I think 4th floor defenestration will be much more theraputic, you get to hear them all the way down...

As for Charity, I learned that if you can offer people something, a bike ride, pig picking, oyster roast etc. people will come and give well.

Thanks for posting that, TJ. Prayer is saving my sanity and therefore life and probably my mom's, too. So I will certainly pray for your niece. That is a crushing thing to go through.

I haven't done TNT but I went through a number of seasons with AIDS Marathon (including being a recruiter for them) which is a similarly structured program. All of it changed my life, and most importantly, those who benefited through AIDS Project Los Angeles and its sister programs in India and South Africa. I can't put into words how I feel about doing this kind of thing, but I would strongly encourage you to do it.

I posted an update in the CoJ thread. Unfortunately, compared to how the rest of the day/evening/night/early morning went, what happened this afternoon would be good news. Short story is I'm going to try to get my mom to Singapore, and it will involve some serious wrangling with my dad as he is opposed to the idea (I think the nicest thing I can say about that is that he feels like he is losing control, and I understand that's a difficult thing).

Good luck Racing Manatees!  (Hey, if the reviews for Squido were better, I'd say we should have a Racing Manatee top made.  Sadly, the reviews kinda suck.)

  • Melanie - Got the Nerve? Tri on Saturday
  • Keye -  Sprint on Saturday?  (he's undecided)
  • Kristen - Run for the Dream half marathon is on her calendar for Sunday
  • Kate - Auburn Sprint on Sunday
  • Adrienne - Rock n Roll Portland Half Marathon Sunday
  • Kirk -  Charleston Sprint Triathlon Series race this Sunday
  • Kirsten - race on Monday (Victoria Day!)

Go Manatees!  Go!
