Veteran 416 Cleveland, Tennessee | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors 2013 - OPEN Wow , I get busy moving out of the house getting ready to drive cross country in 2 weeks and there is a new group. If I can I want to stay in the pod, at least for my activity level on here for the next few weeks. I will try to right a good bio tomorrow when at work. But, I wanted to share. I did the Break-up Tri today in Fairbanks. It was 30-35F out side so the order was reversed, first reverse Tri ever. 5k(3.1 mile) run, 20k (around 13miles), 300M snake pool swim. I am not sure on standings, but finished in 1:27:45, run 27:58, T1 1:16, ride 51:22, T2 1:22, swim 5:46. I have not really gotten workouts in lately so I am impressed with the results. Wanted to share. Want to still be Manatee if I can. Jonathan |

Seattle | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors 2013 - OPEN kgore - 2013-05-05 9:56 PM Just give it some time. Don't sweat it. Sore is normal. Okay, severely RARE occurrence RIGHT NOW: I have a running question. I have re-started my training, as I finally have NOTHING else going on in my life ; and on my last two runs, I have felt pretty good, no pain in the ITB, none in the calves--life is good...but then later on, and the next day, my quads are really sore---am I running with bad form? and secondly, how do I fix this??? It doesn't matter what 'speed' I run (i.e. slow or slower....), they just hurt. Please help! |

Not sure that explains all of it, though.Getting back on the horse this week. |

Master 6834 Englewood, Florida | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors 2013 - OPEN Kirsten - I'm glad it is going well with the achilles. Good to hear. Keep stretching and doing the core work! And the time/watch adjustment on your part is cool, congrats. I wish I could get better at that, I guess it is just another thing to work on Judi - Great job on getting out there and doing a race that you were not looking forward to. Tough conditions seem to really mess with our minds. And I'd take any AG podium, no matter who is there. Jen - I think that your non-race decision may be the best for you. You have a number of races in a short time period. Get after those stretches and exercises. All in all, nothing beats time with the little one, so how can you lose watching cartoons and playing?? Renee - I am a pre-dawn runner. It took a little while to make the adjustment when I started morning exercising a while ago. There are two ways that I know of to make that change. 1) Get up about 5 minutes earlier every day or so and go to bed 5 minutes earlier as well. After a couple of weeks you are now getting up an hour earlier than you used to. Or 2) get to bed an hour early and wake up an hour early. Commit to a week of that and it'll become easier after that. I keep in mind people on here that are training at 4 am. If they can do that, I can make a commitment to myself as well. Oooo, I am envious of your vacation, rafting and such sounds like a blast! Tom - Good to see that you found us. How cool is it to be passed and suddenly find yourself with a new goal!?! One of the reasons that I like riding in group is that I am constantly pushed by the folks around me, which makes for great motivation. Darren - Cool, you gotta love new gear! Enjoy the wetsuit. Ann-Marie - Great job on the race with less than stellar health. I hope the cold didn't take too much out of you and that you were able to enjoy the race. I'll check out your RR shortly. Jogo - The ITB question might be a good one for JJ. He fought through that before Galveston this year. I hope you are A-OK and and that you are able to work through it with the roller and stretches and the like. Jonathan - WTF, 35* is no joke! Dude, that is great. And it is good to see you again, I hope the trip is good for you and your pooch. Kate - I would guess the soreness is normal if you haven't been running much. My tendency would be to work through it if it is just soreness. If it was more of a pain, or just one area, then it might be something to worry about. Erin - You can't wash that off, it is a badge of coolness! Jo - 7 lbs is a good thing to brag about! You go!!!! Keep seeing Coach Andrew and keep riding the bike. Outside. OK, I think I caught up in here. I'm heading off to the land of race reports. Have a great start to the week everyone, and here is my thought of the week: "There are two ways to face the future. One way is with apprehension; the other is with anticipation."

However, a certain Manatee has been riding me about racing this year, so I will probably fo the Oly. I prefer to think of it as gentle nudging and you're lucky I didn't ride you about doing the HIM. . Actually, this is the firmest commitment I've heard about you doing the oly, so I'll take it! I'll admit, gentle nudging sounds better. I'm not HIM ready yet, if ever. An Oly is all I got for this year. We have a vacation week planned in mid Oct, so that may mess with preparations, and I don't own a wetsuit. So I am only at about 68.9% committed at this point. Or I'm just looking for a reason to bail on it. I hear that Ann-Marie has brothers... Beg... Borrow... Just sayin'! |

If you are not familiar with inspires, note that you can reply to them by clicking Reply. This pops out a new window for you to type your response so that the original poster can see it. Finally, most of us use the training log on the site (I think that Yanti said that it's required). This makes it a lot easier for us to help each other when training questions come up. |
