Master 2235 Pacific Northwest | Subject: RE: TriAya's Group: SHUT like dog on steak, sorry! ShawnC13 - 2008-04-23 6:35 AM I see some mentor groups are coming to an end. We can keep this one going can't we or is Yanti taking on some new people to help them as much as she helped us. Oh no! It can't be the end! I wanted to go through race season with everyone. What's the word, Yanti??? It feels like divorce, wahhhhh..... that's my two cents. I still feel like I have a ton to learn, and I won't even know my new questions until I start racing (race 1 is Sunday)........ PS-I am stuck home for the third day in a row, now with two sick kids. Please stop by and say hi!!! |

Expert 851 Oceanside, CA | Subject: RE: TriAya's Group: SHUT like dog on steak, sorry! Oh Leslie, you poor dear! Hope they aren't too miserable so you don't get too miserable. That's one part of "mothering" I do NOT miss! I never was cut out to be a nurse. I don't want the group to break up either. If BT decides it's time to 'quit' can we maybe start a yahoo group or something? I know I haven't been as chatty as normal, but I really do want the group to stay together through race season. When I think about not doing anything training I always ask myself what would the manatees think of me. |

From the looks of previous mentoring seasons, I don't think we'll be forced to shut down or anything. I know we're all eager to track each other's progress and races and ask (and answer) questions, so yes! We definitely need to stick together! I've been waaaaaaaaay excited for the race season to really take off and watch all of you guys kick butt. |

They might morph ... Of course we are going to stick together ... we've barely begun!!! Here's a thought: we're up to 60pp, you guys have built up a ton of expertise, and we do have room for a few extra people. Newbies need you and we could use refreshers too ... So I'm thinking about carrying us over into a new 'n' improved group (that is, we are all greatly improved and ready to help new ones ) and posting as OPEN. You all should sign up in the new thread, and I will PM you all to remind you (also the MIAs in case they want to carry over, too). I probably wouldn't take on too many additional newcomers; I was thinking 3-5. What do you guys think of this plan? Anybody want to be an official co-mentor? (Shoot, you're ready to start your own groups if you want, but ...) |

We're such an awesome group, it'd be a shame to not share our awesomeness with a few others. Co-mentor, eh? I definitely don't have the knowledge or experience to mentor anyone, but I've got plenty of energy and I love encouraging people. If anyone more knowledgeable than me (Beth! Leslie! just for example) wants to do it, by all means. If not, I'd be happy to help. Edited by Fielding 2008-04-23 3:12 PM |

And while I'm at it, Yanti, now seems like the perfect time to tell you just how AMAZING you've been as a mentor. I've learned a ton from you -- and not just from the lessons here (of which there have been plenty), but best of all, from following your logs and your races and learning from your experiences. You've been incredibly supportive and always bright and passionate, even on your bad days, and I appreciate that so much. THANK YOU, so much, for everything you've given us. THanks for being you! |

I definitely will be sticking around and gleening and sharing during this race season. While each of us might not have a whole lot of experience, we're still learning from others' mistakes and victories...both important. Beth, you'll make an excellent co-mentor! You're such a great motivator. |

Master 2235 Pacific Northwest | Subject: RE: TriAya's Group: SHUT like dog on steak, sorry! Beth, I agree fully and totally! Especially with your swim expertise.... I will just continue to be the insane mom who complains about lack of time and sick kids. I hardly have time to go to the bathroom, much less mentor! I also have to run my homeowner association which takes up a ton of time. I'd much rather be running races!! By the way, have I mentioned how caged I feel on day three of being home with the sickies? AAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH! Here's a quote from just a minute ago, "MOM MOM MOM MOM MOM MOM MOM MOM MOM MOM MOM MOM!!!!???!!!!" So, Yanti, be sure to tell us when you put the new group on the interweb thing. |

I'm off to New York for a long weekend with my sister, so I won't be around for the rest of the week. Leslie: Good luck in the duathlon! You're going to kick some serious butt, I'm sure of it, because you are beyond awesome. Yanti: If you happen to post the new mentor thread while I'm gone, please make sure I'm on the list! I definitely definitely want to stay with the group. Have a great week/weekend, kids! |

Master 2235 Pacific Northwest | Subject: RE: TriAya's Group: SHUT like dog on steak, sorry! Hey gang.....as I am nearing my first duathlon and gathering my gear, I have a question or two for you--what to wear? It's not supposed to snow or rain (thankfully, as it snowed last weekend!) but I am guessing at race start it will be around or below 40 and probably not even 50 by the end. Soooooo....I am pretty sure I will wear my running capris under either my trisuit (black or team javelin??) or else put on bike shorts for the bike and take them off for the second run. Bike leg is 14 miles. I am also bringing my winter bike gloves, which I may just wear for the first run of 1.8 miles. See how I am confusing myself? I think I will wear my usual polarfleece top over whatever top I have on, as it's what I have been wearing on nearly every run and ride all winter/"spring" so far. I have a windproof vest which I could throw on in the ride if it's really cold or windy. I am also going to bring shoe warmers for skiing to put in my bike shoes, since my feet always freeze, even with wool socks and shoe covers, and I won't have either one for this race. Any words of wisdom are appreciated! Thanks!! It's not until Sunday so I have plenty of time to change my mind over and over and over and over. |

As Jayne says, "I do not do the du," but I think I would like to! Bring the kitchen sink, then make a game-day decision. I'd wear the capris under the tri suit (bring the bike shorts anyway; you can still put them on OVER all that for warmth or comfort if you need to). Wear whichever tri suit is warmer and/or more comfy--it'll be under layers so looks don't matter (LIKE WE ARE IN THIS SPORT TO LOOK GOOD HA HA HA ... yep, I look my best wet dripping sunburnt dirty with a helmet on, indeed). Definitely wear the bike gloves from the get-go.

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: TriAya's Group: SHUT like dog on steak, sorry! IMPORTANT NOTICE The Manatees are about to have a new home in the Spring mentor thread! I will PM each of you to make sure you know about it--if you read back on this page you'll figure it out. Essentially, as has been true from the beginning here (that's how we got our name--we are ALL mentorees--manatees?--mentorees!) we are mentoring each other. Officially, Beth and I are co-mentors, but that's just 'cause the title BethYantiErinLeslieReneeTerriLauraShawnHectorWill's (see?) Mentor Group is a little cumbersome. So we are opening up into a Spring group and taking on a small crew of newbies that we all can help and learn from. I will be posting the new thread today (like, in the next couple of hours). Cheers!

Not that I have any experience (yet) in that department, but that' what the DH does when he's not sure. Oh and I cannot wait to hear about your DU! I've decided to attempt one myself in July (I think). Eek! I figure it's just one step closer to completely my first tri, since I've already participated in 2 5Ks. Oh, and I thought we were supposed to look good! I've been running around like a crazy woman trying to find a nail polish that will match the pink in my helmet that matches the pink in my tri-top! Let me tell you it was hard to find a helmet that had pink in it that also had a pretty silvery-gray that would match my bike. Whew! |
