Arch-Bishop of BT ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So my wife is on a faculty search committee... the interim president is being a jerk about how they do the process... the committee narrowed it down to three candidates, and the president told them they could ask one particular member to campus for an interview. Then if that candidate is unacceptable they can move to the next candidate. frustrating.
anyway... the dean asked my wife to go pick up the one candidate on Sunday night... my wife called me and asked me if she could. I told her that I was not going to be the bad guy and say yes or no... it was up to her. She told me to call her back when I decided. I talked with her a little bit ago, and I told I wanted her to weigh the ramifications of driving to Pittsburgh and picking up the candidate. If she felt that she had to do it, or that she was a better choice than the other members, or that it was politically expedient for her to do so... then tell me that and even if I don't like it, I will respect it. If she felt that others were able to do and that there would be no political ramifications for not picking up the candidate, or she felt like I was really ticked at her not being around much right now and she wanted to spend more time with the family on a really busy weekend... then say no, and I would respect that as well. I chose not to go to a particular conference because I would be doing a lot right around then so I didn't register. I did choose to go to one next week, because I thought it was important and we made arrangements for me to go. There will be some adjustments in the make-up of her program's administration... so politically she thought she should go and do it. Fine, I said, do it. I did not want to say no and then her not get some of the benefits of the re-arrangement, and then have resentment build toward me... and hence be the bad guy... grrr.... I am not a frickin' dictator. |

That to me would indicate importance, especially in this job market. Again I'm probably not getting why there's an issue. Sorry Preach!!! How were the hot dogs??? |

the boss ASKED her... she could have said no... since there are other people on the committee.... she felt it was politically expedient... I agreed. The issue was that she wanted me to be the bad guy. I refused. We communicated like adults as a result. |
