Speaking of that I'm heading out in a few minutes to check out a Scott Foil. David the one I was looking at when I said it was too expensive was their super high end version, their mid-range is actually at a very good price point. |

Regular 459 | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN -CLOSED DUE TO TRAINING So, I've been more lurking then active lately... Actually, the last couple weeks has sucked for me. I've been almost constantly sick, or had children getting sick on me. Anyways, I'm finally not sick and trying to get back into it. I had a crappy swim and run on the weekend. I'm kind of feeling like I've lost all my fitness. Having said that, I had a good swim yesterday and can sprint as fast as I could a couple months ago, but my endurance is still feeling pretty down. So, how long does it take to come back to it after doing nothing for a couple weeks? (And by nothing, I mean I barely walked around the house a lot of days.) |

I've read it takes twice as long to come back. So if you were out of commission for two weeks, give yourself a month to get back to where you were. Be kind to yourself and patient while your body recovers. |

Even in my house (where we are suppose to know better) the hubby went all cross sesson frustrated by his MOP finishes and lack of power. Then he got a professional fit and has finished in the top 10 for the last 3 races and no knee and hip pain!! If you are going to spend any money this year - number one priority is a bike fit. That and proper running shoes are absolute necessities. |

We've been following the chatter about it for a few months. It would be a super fast IM course. It is very flat in that part of VA. I did a HIM there 2 years ago. Of course, I want to know where that swim will be b/c I am still mentally recovering from that awful swim. this is awesome! just went by the resort website, that place looks nice! and reservations are open for 2013! ~3.5 hours north of the NC peeps too! oh boy!!! Totally agree - this race would be awesome!! Especially since it's only about 10 miles from my front door. As long as they don't take the bike course down Colonial Parkway... historic road? yes. Scenic? yes, very. Smooth? ABSOLUTELY NOT! Very rough overall; it was poured with very rocky cement and not skimmed/smoothed to finish -- almost cobblestone rough. I've done a few longer rides out there because its light traffic and convenient but it is brutal to say the least. It would hard on the riders and the bikes. |

Champion 9060 Charlottesville, Virginia | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN -CLOSED DUE TO TRAINING This is the first time I've really searched for a bike and had no idea what I wanted. It's amazing how difficult it is to find a specific bike in a specific size. Usually I know exactly what I want and just order it online. Test rode a Scott Foil today, not the specific model I want but same frame, he said the model I wanted would be available in May and that 17 of them would be in the US... The other problem with the Scott is the model I want only comes in one color silver..., yuck, silver on a carbon bike just doesn't look good. Called 5 bike shops today looking for a Felt AR and only 2 of them had AR's none in my size and none in the specific models I wanted, He said the 54's (my size) were completely sold out until just recently. He did say he had a Cervelo S3 he'd give me for 1/2 price since the S5 just came out. Nice thing about Felt is you can get them in just about any color you want.

Expert 653 Henderson, NV | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN -CLOSED DUE TO TRAINING ok, I on a recovery week and then I have 8 more weeks until my 1/2 marathon. My long run this past weekend was 10 miles. The traditional 1/2 mary plans have you running 5x/wk. No way I can run that often and bike and swim too--without injury. Any suggestions on how to use the last 8 weeks? Somebody? Anybody? So far, I've been making it up as I go along
I have been experimenting with this a lot the last couple of years. If I hadn't crashed and burned totally on my last marathon, I would say I had figured it out. I replaced my garbage miles that most plans have added with a long bike. Therfore my runs were "quality runs" (Tempo, Long, Steady) as apposed to just long mileage. I felt fantastic and fast at the completion of the training cycle. Now I need to adjust a bit because of the failure I mentioned but even the recovery was the best it had been. Just something else to experiment with.

Master 2501 | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN -CLOSED DUE TO TRAINING Thanks, Steve, for helping give my run miles a big last-minute boost today!!! What I love about my numbers this month is that they officially look like they belong to a triathlete. Yay! Adding in the bike and the swim has shown me, once again, how much I enjoy the bike and the swim. Go figure... Still unbalanced time-wise, but I am happy and enjoying what I'm doing.

My current training plan has a short run mid week that I've doing speed work on but it is causing too many mild injury issues/niggles(he..he). So I am willing to ditch that run all together for a long bike. Gonna try this out. Thanks! |

I can ride harder if I don't run. I'll catch up with you guys one of these years . On the bike fit, I've gotten the best fit I could find here in Sendai. The bike fit culture that you have in the US just does not exist in this part of Japan. The guy did everything by eyeballing my riding on a trainer and I actually think he did a pretty good job. He spent 10-15 years as a mechanic for one of the Giro d'Italia teams. Anyway, I'm playing around a little with my fit right now and may post some video at a later date. |
