Hey Pod! I haven't really had time to catch up on everything but I got some free time today and thought I'd drop in and say hello.

We've been having a great time in SD. Naturally it's always trouble when us siblings get together. Smile

In addition to the ruckus I've been doing a lot of active stuff. Got a good amount of running in. Some biking, swimming and surfing. This gorgeous weather really promotes an active lifestyle whether you like it or not!

On Monday night I was running on the beach at almost 11:00 PM. I looked down and saw a glowstick in the sand, which I thought was a little strange. Then I looked up and saw 50+ glowsticks coming out of the water. I didn't realize what it was at first so I just stood there gawking. It was the Navy Seals! The had swam all the way from their base to the beach I was running on.

Anyway, it's been a great place to taper! I should do this before every race!!

Sounds like a great time! Running on the beach is awesome. The Navy Seals are a bonus!!!!!!!!!

I love SD and would move there in a heartbeat if won the lottery.  Did you swim with the sharks off La Jolla beach?  If not, you should.

Eff that!!!! As I was chest deep in the ocean yesterday getting ready to paddle out my brother was like, "oh. Uhmmm. Just so you know ... Stingrays hurt but don't panic, the only thing you can really do is clean the sting with freshwater, so, yeah..." We have the gopro video camera, maybe I'll share some footage.

You just need to learn the stingray shuffle and you won't get stung. Also, nurse sharks won't bother you, so they are fine to swim with. In fact, they are right off shore in knee deep water, so if you've been to la jolly you've probably already swum with them.

Some rascally student has passed along their cold germs...  I was feeling it a bit last night, went to bed early to get up for Masters this AM.  I felt ok when I woke up, and I did go, and actually did better than I though I would.  But now I am kinda headachy and yucky.  I have a few things I have to get done at work, but I am headed for home as soon as they are done!

Salty, sounds like you are having a great time.  Navy Seals, that would be something to see!!

Good evening, everyone! I just wanted to let you know that I joined in on Fred's group this evening. I have been lurking over there for quite some time, and I decided I needed to make my presence known. I'll still be over here, too. I hope that's legal.

I had my first phone interview this afternoon with the department chair. It went very well. She wants me to submit a couple more things this week, then she will share with the department my information, and if that goes well, my material will go on to the dean.

Work has been busy, so I need to get in and catch up on my post reading.

Who?

:D

I am keeping you and your family in my prayers regarding California. (Now all the CA songs are going through my head ... Beach Boys ... Katy Perry ... even the Red Hot Chili Peppers!)

My DS1 has a guitar addiction too.  He has owned several over the years and has had to divest a couple of times when money got tight. I think he's down to a small collection now.

I just ran a smokin' fast 10K at lunch today.  Warmed up with 1/2 mile, then started at somewhere between 5K and HM pace, finished 6.2 miles in 45;14.  I've never run an open 10K before but that was a 7:18 pace average!  Whohoo.  I had a 1:00 meeting right after lunch so I ran a little faster than I normally would, this was supposed to be my mid-week long run in prep for the Nov 18th marathon I signed up for.

I'll be a runnin' fool turkey for the next 6 weeks in preparation for the Gobbler Grind Marathon.

Bleugh.....set the alarm for 5.15 but a shocking night's sleep so decided I wouldn't run this morning I'd go lunchtime...but couldn't get back to sleep and was thinking man it's going to be really hot running at lunchtime so eventually I jumped out of bed at 5.50 and was out and running by 6am.

Usually I drink water and have a banana or some toast half an hour before a run - not this morning.  So I ran down to the beach and back half hour out and 25mins back?  Felt good but it was already hot.

Showered had a protein shake and went to work.  While on my daily commute on the train I started to feel very average, like I was gonna faint.  I ate the only thing I had which was an apple, just enough sugar to get me to my station.

Bought a sports drink - Im halfway through it, I've had banana bread but my stomach is objecting!  I think a little healthy dehydration!

Just goes to show when you have a plan stick with it, don't deviate!

Bleugh.

Still I've done my run for the day so I'm happy about that - though it may kill me!
