discipleguideservice - 2011-02-19 9:53 PM www.RoadID.com  anyone who still needs a Road I.D.  you are welcome to use my coupon code.  I think it can be used up to 20 times in the next 30 days.  I just ordered ID's for Maria and myself last night.  Is your safety, and your families piece of mind worth 20 bucks?

In addition to wearing some ID, make sure someone knows what route you're planning to take and approximately when you'll be back.

Make sure you always have i.d.!

You never know when you'll need it.  I got hit 1-1/2 years ago and woke up in the back of the ambulance not knowing what month it was.  They used it to call my wife who was two hours away and wouldn't have known for hours.

Just echoing what the above have said.  And to add..if you have a Road ID....MAKE SURE YOU PUT IT ON!  Make it habit.
Since I have medical issues I have the interactive one.

amd723 - 2011-02-20 1:03 PM Happy Sunday McFuzzies!  This morning I completed the Ft. Lauderdale 1/2 marathon!  I planned on completing the full, but for various injury related issues I decided to knock it down to the half.  I'm disappointed that i couldn't run the full, as injury and sickness stopped me from completing the last marathon i planned to run too Frown  I have had a injury riddled marathon season and am glad it is now over so I can concentrate on healing and triathlon!

Happy Sunday!  Don't beat yourself up too much.  You did something most people will never do.  Most people I know in my friends, family and work colleagues never will do a half marathon.  So, good for you!

I just finished a nice 15 mile run myself.  Longest since my races in early Jan.  Felt really gooood.   Take care!

Thanks.  I always take a little bit of satisfaction in knowing that as am recovering from a nice, long early morning workout, most people are still in bed.
Congrats on your run.

Laughing Hello Team, I have been riding on the training roller coaster and the ride just got fast. I am 34 days out from marathon and because this marathon is a wicked combination of desert terrain, sand pits and man-made elements our training is trying to mimic those conditons. The long runs just keep getting longer, so yes I can feel it.

No time for personals but I see this roomful of champions have been quite busy but I would like to say...
Cry To all of you on the injury list, my heart goes out to you,  I hope you heal as swiftly as possible and come back stronger than before.
Wink To all of you who have finished a competition, I salute you, congrats and savory your accomplishments.
Smile To all of you in hot pursuit of your goal, stay focused on the target. Press onward, despite the challenges, distractions, obligations and all other things call life...you are champion, you can do this thing.

Be encouraged all and stay the course.

Buff

PS: Thank you Mike for leading such a find group of Champions, we appreciate your wisdom and knowledge.

My manager (Kathy my wife) never lets me leave with my Road ID.

Good 1 hour 40 min. bike with 3 X 15 mins high power, low cadence drills and 3 X 1 min high power VO2 max, then headed to the gym and did an hour continuous in the pool.  Sometimes I think I am almost there - bilateral breathing and all.

DON'T FEEL BAD! 1 in 6 did not finish! It was hot. I couldn't race but my husband did the full and he said it was especially hard because of the heat and humidity. Took him 5:03. People dropped out like flies! Congrats on the half... 13.1 is fantastic especially on a hot day. Sorry you are injured... hope you heal completely.

Great decision making.  Why push and take a chance of losing weeks of training for one more 2 hour run.

Congrats to all who are racing.  Still trying to get away from winter here.

Thanks and congrats to your husband; it was hot and humid for my finish, so i can only imagine what it was like for the full marathoners.  I didn't realize so many people dropped out; that is harsh.  The last 10k or so where there are no beachside condos to help block an ever-rising sun had to be really brutal (I remember that it was for me last year).

Good morning McFuzzies.  Well I woke up with severe pain on my lower left side this morning, it hurts like a beyatch    It's shooting all the way down my leg too so I'm thinking I've badly pulled a groin muscle during my bike ride yesterday. Icing it and taking ibuprofen for now. My health insurance doesn't start till March 1st and I leave Friday so I think REST is in order. D'oh!

Was just beautiful here yesterday in Seattle.

Lynne,

I think rest (as much as you can packing for a trip to Scotland) will do as much for you as hobbling through some painful workouts.

Morning McFuzzies!  Ugh on the injuries that are starting to crop up!!!  Speedy recovery to all.

Had the best swim yesterday ever...I found my Zen!  I quit worrying about bilateral breathing, stroke counts, and just decided to swim how I've always felt comfortable--mostly breathing on the right every stroke, occasionally breathing on left to spot, etc.  Swam the perimeter of the lake three times which totals around 1.5 miles.  It was awesome and felt effortless!  I was so happy with it...plus, no scuba classes out there so lake was clear as crystal--it was fun checking out the various terrain as I swam.

Happy day off to all those who aren't working today...including me!  Girlfriend day-lunch and pedicures!  Can't wait.

Well yesterday I did my last long run before my HM in 2 weeks.  Started to crash around 6 miles (like usualFrown) so I walked for about 1/2 mile and took the GU I had brought with me.  The extended walk break seemed to help (I do run/walk on all my long runs but walks are usually shorter) and I was able to go for another 3.5 miles.  Still about a mile shorter than I was hoping for but by then the sun had come out and it was warming up quick.  It was a good run, a little slower than I had hoped but it was nice to be able to spend the time outside without 6 layers of clothes!  I'll stick with shorter runs this week and maybe an 8-miler next weekend, then a couple of easy runs next week before the race.

I think I've settled on a spring tri.  There were a couple I was looking at but I think I'm going to go with the local one.  It's a long sprint (500/21/5) but the bike is supposed to be pretty flat and I know the area where the run is (I grew up around thereSmile).  It's 17 weeks away so that will give me about 15 weeks to work on my bike and swim after my HM - should be more than do-able.

OK peeps.

We're 7 weeks into 2011.  I must confess, February has been brutal for me as a mentor.  A huge snowfall Feb 1-2 and then a couple long days Feb 8-9 left me way behind at work, and that means not so much playtime on BT.  Trying to get decent workouts in and my IM training starts the middle of next month (gulp).  Personally, I'm trying to step up cycling over the next couple weeks so I'm ready for 2-3 hour rides in a month.  Swimming has been good with the coached Saturday morning practices.  Last week, I posted some 100 times close to my best-ever times 2 years ago (when I was swimming a lot more).  Running miles are off with many routes inaccessible from snow.  (I still had a small pile of snow on the sidewalk this morning after a week of 50F weather.

Most of the group is intact, but I feel we've lost a few newer athletes.      I've sent PM's (a couple times) to try getting them back.

Those of you still here are doing great!  I'm seeing a lot of consistency in most logs, and the traffic in this thread has been good.  Keep up the effort, and keep in touch often.

As we close February, take a few minutes to review your 2011 goals.  Are you making (any) progress?  If not, or you're not satisfied with the rate of progress, try things differently.  If so, talk up the success!  It's positive reinforcement (not bragging).  Proof that our goals can happen and our dreams come true.  It's also time to revisit goals.  Maybe you're dealing with an injury that has completely changed your life (inside and outside of triathlon).  It's fair to cross off goals that are no longer important.  It's also fair to refine goals (some) but be careful about goal creep.  If your original goal is to run a 5K (no walking), make sure you can check it off before you start adding "in less than XX minutes" lest you never complete any goal.  (You'll also suffer from "sticky" performance.  So you have one sub-10-minute/mile run and think every single run should thusly be sub-10-minute-miles. )  If you're this type of person, go back 5 months and read what you were doing then.

This has been an up and down month for me both training and attitude.  I don't feel I've progressed as much as I should have, but looking back at my logs they really aren't that bad.  Have had to re-evaluate how I do my runs due to ankle ickiness.  It's been a real struggle to get out there at 5am and do the runs.  Have made tremendous break throughs with swimming which wasn't even a goal at the beginning of the year so happy with that.  The biggest break through since joining the group came today.  I haven't had a cigarette since Friday night.  I have gone three whole days without one.  I never thought I could make it through a whole work day without one but I did and it really wasn't even that hard.  So that is my big accomplishment for the month - that and breathing while swimming

Fantastic!   You can do it.  Heck, you have done it.  You are a non smoker.  How's that feeling?  Pretty good eh?
If you do nothing else all year, you've saved your own life.  Pretty good accomplishment for the first two months of the year, I'm thinking.  But you've done a lot of other things too.

Forget the ups and downs.  They are due to lack of rest, not enough cals, not enough vitamin D, a host of reasons.  Not so important how we feel as what we do, right?  Naturally, pay attention to injuries, but emotions are so fragile, I don't giuve them the time of day unless they are positive ones.  The negative passes.

I feel like I'm making a TON of progress.  When my recovery workouts used to be my long workouts, I know I've made substantial fitness gains.  I seem to have gone backwards in the butt department though...it's sore again after 2 1/2 hours yesterday and 1 1/2 hours this morning.  Ah well, might be time for Butt Butter!  My workouts have been as consistent as death and taxes--really proud of myself for that.  Haven't missed one yet.  I will have a challenge ahead. Since hubby is starting his softball season Friday (he coaches our high school team) a lot of responsibilities will be shifted to me, including getting my older daughter to a two day softball tourny this weekend in St. George, UT.  I will have to reorganize some workouts and possibly do a few two-a-days to get everything in.

When I look ahead to my HIM, I still haven't nailed down a time goal--I'm not sure if I should or not.  With this being my first I am just not sure what is a reasonable expectation.  I certainly don't want to finish feeling like 'huh.  Could've pushed harder.'

Another success is that I've been working on nutrition during my longer workouts and finding what works for me.  From running 1/2 marys and marys I know solids do not sit well with me.  A mixture of GUs, Gatorade and water have been working really well.  I don't know if I should experiment with other mixes, or just stick with what I know works for me. Any advice there?

Great job to us all that are committed to our group!  I need to work on getting inspires out though...but I'm cheering for everyone!
