Nicole83 - 2010-01-28 8:11 AM I'm a total music junkie and really like new bands, or music that isn't really played on the popular music stations. I'm sick of pretty much everything I have on my ipod. Anyone have any suggestions of anything new that I might like? I typically listen to a lot of alternative or hard rock stuff. I realize this doesn't technically have anything to do with training, but I love when I get fun new music to run to. |

Lots of rocks on the mountain. Let's just say my feet were very messed up to make me do that. I was beyond miserable and nerve damage as a result of the whole experience. Course I still climb so couldn't have been that bad I suppose... evondo - 2010-01-28 6:00 AM Interesting barefoot running article...http://barefootrunning.fas.harvard.edu/index.html The study was funded by Vibram Five Fingers but it's still and interesting read. Anyone here tried their 'shoes' or barefoot running? Last year I worked on my foot strike and after some adjusting was able to become a midfoot striker which made running less painful for me. Although my joints are still wimps when it comes to concrete/asphalt it's much better than it used to be... |

You all are having a post recovery snack for extended workouts right Chocolate milk or chocolate flavored muscle milk ranks high on the post long bikes (2+ hours), especially if I am away from home... Chappell Hill ride - stop at the Stop-n-Go and pick up a bottle of the above. I also use Endurox R4 recovery drink after long rides or runs that usually end at home. You have to mix it with cold water, and it can be kind of a pain to use out and about. But I truly believe in the value of this stuff. Whether it is truly physical or just mental... I 'feel' like I recover faster when I use Endurox. Post long workout lunch (post marathon - a must have)... it's hard to beat a big ol' burrito from Chipotle or Mission Burritos... |

Triathlete Nation ~ Texas! | Subject: RE: Evondo's Group - CLOSED!I am a tender foot with soft supple footsies! So running barefoot ~ not a chance! I do run sockless, although I haven't done that in a few months ~ and with my newest shoes... I need more miles in them before I start doing that in them. Seg-way -----> The new Zoot TT 2.0 shoes... designed to be sockless - suck! There is this hard seam on the high heel grab that will f' you up! The other mdels (energy, etc...) that are designed like the TT 1.0's are more suitable for sockless. My bright orange addidas boston's (which are nearing their end) are good for 1 - 13 mile sockless runs... I don't think I could use the Vibrams anywhere except for on the rubberized track... which might be a possibility to improve foot strike & calf strength while working on speed work. |

Expert 668![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Lancaster, PA | Subject: RE: Evondo's Group - CLOSED!...... the drive and motivation comes from fear of failure, setting goals and expectations...something along the lines of: 1. averaging 22mph on the bike 2. running faster than eeyor 3. swimming as fast as Fishondo 4. self satisfaction (bragging rights) ........wanting something we don't have, trying to set an example for your family, trying to hold on to something- youth, the competitive side, standing on a podium, the clouded thought of watching yourself swim at Kona, reaching for the improbable. Personally, I am reminded like others that this is crazy, that there must be something wrong with me to endure the tri-man punishment. I've been tongue tied at times trying to decipher the why I do the things I do. Sometimes it is hard having those negative people around you trying to put you down and remind you it is crazy and an improbable feat. Ha! but if they only knew. The hardest part of them all is taking the first step. Yes! we will encounter obstacles -the weather sucks, I am tired, I am hungry, it is dark, it is to cold, my clothes are dirty, it might rain, to hot, to windy, I don't want to be dropped off, etc. I always feel great after a workout no matter what...... Back when my boys took Karate, their Sensei made them touch a sign before stepping into the mats that said, "To be a Champion, You must train like a Champion". I am reminded every time I get on the pool. There is this giant picture on the wall that says, " To Accomplish Something You Must Expect It Of Yourself" Suck it up butter cup.. because If I can do it, You can do it.... I KENOTT swim - 2010-01-27 9:06 AM If anyone understands the expectation to do well it's me. I expect to do what I can't do yet [1 - 6 min/mi]. It can be very disappointing but it does set the bar pretty high. Expectations can lead to injury - I am trying to find the balance between stretching / base building and all out heart blasting speed. Good luck at Kona! I will have to watch you on TV / internet. Trin2bfast - 2010-01-27 9:32 AM fast enough for 40-44... Once you hit 45 you have to ratchet it up a notch! I wanna maintain or improve speed & endurance with age... so at 45+ I can qualify for Kona, while all my peers are registering with AARP! Motivation... it waivers from time to time, but once I get in my groove ~ I am an extremely competitive person (almost to a fault)... And I EXPECT to do well. I like being in good enough shape at 40 (as of this coming Tuesday) and being able to pass guys younger than me. Goals I have set for races plays a good motivational role as well... Not being 'chicked' by fattyfatfat on the swim is a definite motivator! LOL! Man fatty's gettin' it from all sides! I KENOTT swim - 2010-01-26 5:20 PM My dad told me I was too old to start this. Gets me out of bed almost every time. I'm only 39. Justin Wood is giving me hope I can do this at this age and I can get fast with time. EvD speed is out of the question but I think I can get fast enough for 40-45 AG ![]() bzgl40 - 2010-01-26 5:06 PM Question for the group: What do you use to motivate yourself to go do a workout even when you really don't want to, be it your tired, the weather sucks, something is more interesting on TV, bright shinny object caught your attention? Is it the same thiing all the time or do you have to keep coming up with new ways to motivate yourself? I just do tri's for fun and I'm a MOP athlete so it's not like my placing is affected by missing a bike ride etc. I frequently have to talk myself into getting out the door but, once I am out there I'm fine. I actually really do like to bike, run, swim so once I am doing them I am fine. But man, there are days I have like hour like conversations in my head explaining to myself why I should go do it. Especially on those iffy weather days or days like today where I am slated for 1hr 10min on the drainer. |

I ran behind a barefoot guy for a few miles of a marathon a couple of years ago, and I was in awe of how tough his feet must have been. The course went by some bad neighborhoods with lots of glass in the street, a couple of construction sites, etc. Amazing. My feet are so tender that I can't even wear those "massage" sandals because the nubs hurt. I'm looking for a pair of sockless racing shoes though, so if anyone has strong recommendations let's hear 'em. I do short runs in Nike Lunartrainers without socks, but they start to rub my achilles after 4 or 5 miles. Would be nice to find something to keep me comfy through 10k or even half-marathon. |

I actually talked to the guy... this was his 12th barefoot marathon and he told me it wasn't the rocks & glass & such... it was the cold concrete made his feet hurt. Houston being a winter marathon and the temp that day was 30ish at the start and thats when I was running with him. Frickin' nuts! More power to him! The zoot Energy maybe, or one other trainer they have... The TT 2.0 & the racer 2.0... no thanks. I like my '09 Adidas Bostons - still available on the internet... nice toe box, holes in the forefoot like the zoots and with some Speedlaces brand laces... they are very similar... I found that they do not rub my feet anywhere except a little at the 13 mile distance on my little toe. gavisk - 2010-01-28 1:21 PM I like one scoop of chocolate Muscle Milk protein powder mixed with a pint of skim milk.
