So very, very sad about the cyclist. I am always so thankful to be home after any and every ride on the road.

Really excited for you REV3 peeps!!!

I'm off to a training camp in CDA, 95% most likely. (Family things might get in the way but so far it's looking good.) It'll mean a very long weekend of training on the course, but I'll take that over my solo rides and jumping back into life at the end of a long day! It's awesome to focus only on training, recovery, and training again. My hamstring is starting to cooperate just enough as well when I run. It's all good!!!

Came across this video of last years Augusta. I am not racing it this year, but this makes me want to. BTW: I found myself for a split second at 4:02 coming out of the water. I am in the X Terra sleeveless suit and yellow cap. I am wiping my nose.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MS2K0DAVgVM

I know you and John did this race, how did you like it? I am planning for this to be my "A" race for next season and my 1st Half Iron as I have family in Augusta and in Columbia, SC

overall i thought it was a great race.  having family in the area would make it that much more special.   you won't find a faster swim as its down river the whole way.  bike has some flat and some rollers, but if i could handle them anyone can.  the run is flat and very well supported with aid stations and crowd support.

the only downside was the mile walk back to transition from the finish line to get your bike and gear.  of course you could drive down if a car was handy but parking looked brutal and the course was still open so traffic might be an issue.

i'd recommend augusta 70.3 for sure.  i'm still trying to figure out a late season him, i may head back to augusta.

rev3 has a new race in anderson, sc this year a weekend before or after augusta.  it'll be interesting to see how it goes.

Dino and Suzy and anyone else coming from the cold, you just might forget it is a race and start sunbathing at T1~~

And fear the reprisals of one Taper maddened Fatty!  No way.  The rest of my race may not go as planned but I am for sure not hanging around in either transition with Taper-John on the loose!   Laughing

P.S. So I took Minnow's bike into the house last night after picking it up and set it between my bikes.  It makes my bike frames look huge.  (Trevor I spoon fed you this....! Foot in mouth

i'm gonna be rocking the video camera.  you better be moving!!!

Yeah, I saw that....she seems so calm and poised for being in her mid 20s!

PS. Dino, very funny.....my bike mechanic used to ride it down the street to test it out after a tune-up.  He looked like one of those clowns on a trike!

Hey Gang!  Starting to get caught back up from the trip to China.  Got home Friday - expected to struggle with jet lag over the weekend but it turned out not to be bad.  Kept real busy so never gave myself a chance to take a nap.

I have good news and I have bad news.

Good news - today I got into the HIM that I was waitlisted for!!  Musselman Triathlon on July 17th.  Psyched that my first time at the distance will be at a great local race.

Bad news - my biking is so far off where it needs to be to do a HIM.  It is really going to be painful!  I guess this will be a "only to have fun" race and it will give me a nice slow time to improve on in the future!

Congrats to all of you that have raced in the passed couple of weeks...Linda Velcro (awesome BQ!), Linda Terps (awesome AG Place), DJ (another awesome heel click), Grape Juice and everyone else that has raced recently.   I missed a lot of race reports, I need to go find them.

Jealous of all of you that will be at Rev 3 this weekend.  Someday I hope to make an MG race!

After reading on some fluid loss and salty sweaters It really reminded me of last year where I was really light headed and just could not grasp a general conversation so when I read about some of the symptoms it got me thinking.

So I have started to figure out the rate of fluid lost I have 3 runs and 1 ride in.

Temp is anywhere from 66 to 77 with 12-19% hum. duration of run/bike around 42 to 55mins

I weighed myself before and after each and losing around 3poundsthat is without fluid intake.

I am also a salty sweater so I was wondering if metasalts would help especially long runs and rides

Just not sure where to go from here.

So I have come to where all of the GREAT WISDOM is.

What was the % weight loss?  Anything 2% and above will have some impact on your performance.   At 4'10" and 102lbs, I supplement with one Salt Stick cap on the hour for the bike and for the run if going longer than two hours.  I can easily drop 2-2.5lbs on a 2 hour run without hydration. While it doesn't leave me speechless (nothing does!), I can tell I am working a lot harder those last 30 minutes.

I've asked a sports nutritionist a similar question on how much I should be supplementing.  Should find out something today.

how are you measuring this weight loss?  how much do you weigh?  3 pounds in 45 minutes at 66 degrees seems like a lot.  not saying it isn't possible but for comparisons sake, last test i did i lost 3 pounds in 33 minutes.  but i weighed 235 at the time and it was ~97 degrees out with 60% humidity.

edit.  n/m.  i see on the 7 april test date you checked in at 170.  so a 2% loss in 45 minutes.

That weight loss may not be out of line. I am a heavy sweater! On average I lose 1 lbs. of "water" weight every 10 minutes when running. That is 6 lbs./hour. I am 6' tall and 240. Hopefully as my weight drops that amount of loss will decrease. I do not sweat as much on the bike. I have found I need to drink in the pool during practice since my distances have risen above 2000 yds. I do not notice myself dehydrating but I find I tend to cramp near the end if I do not drink some during the workout.

interesting.  what were the environmental conditions during your test?   i agree about the bike and wonder how that plays into this, as it certainly must... thinking about bricks here

i've never brought a water to the pool.  if i'm thirsty i just have swig of pool water. ha!

Great topic on the weight loss. During the winter on my 10+ mile runs I will only lose a pound or two and I generally don't bring water with me. I do hydrate heavily before hand. During the summer I cart the water with me and will drink 20-30 ounces and I'll loose 5-7 pounds depending on the humidity. There's a big difference between a zone 2 and tempo run in the summer as well. The higher intensity is magnified and water loss is much greater.

exactly!  in december i can go for and hour and half run stopping by a water fountain two or three times tops.  minimal loss.   liquid intake yesterday (88 but low humidity) was ~84 oz of water and 16 oz of perform.

i agree about the intensity.  i also think activity duration impacts hydration as well.  for example most of my current work load is zone 2 but there's a lot of it.  staying hydrated before during and after a workout is a big challenge

how are you measuring this weight loss?  how much do you weigh?  3 pounds in 45 minutes at 66 degrees seems like a lot.  not saying it isn't possible but for comparisons sake, last test i did i lost 3 pounds in 33 minutes.  but i weighed 235 at the time and it was ~97 degrees out with 60% humidity.

edit.  n/m.  i see on the 7 april test date you checked in at 170.  so a 2% loss in 45 minutes.

Thank You.

I am 5'11" weigh around 173

Absolutely!  Any pics from the podium?

Can you clarify this... Are you naked and dry during both weigh in's?

You know you are talking to Bryce and not one of the women on this thread, right???

i'll be leading the research on weight loss this weekend in knockersville.  gonna stagger time on the scale... something like this.  minnow, dino, julia, tony, julia, minnow, julia, tracy, tracy, tracy, tracy, tracy, julia, julia, minnow, tony with a pic a kyla taped to the back of head, minnow.

edit.  glad you're home safe!

Are you implying Tony and I weigh the same?????? (THWACK!)

you've been losing weight!?!

What, no Sam?  I know she's not racing but any good research needs a control subject!  I'll volunteer to do the peer review before you publish...
