Jen - New bike ?!?!?!?! Jonathan TX - awesome job on the 1.2 mile swim! Regarding the bike, what is your hydration setup? Do you have an aerodrink bottle or something else? Have you been doing the majority of your riding in aero? As far as practice, do it outside if you can. Getting things dialed in on the trainer is not the same as getting them dialed in outside. TJ - I can feel your excitement! You will rock it! Safe travels! Erin - glad the CA trip went well Kirsten - hang in there! I think that it's more important to listen to your body than to overthink the run/walk ratio. I also suspect that the 10% rule works better to longer distances than a 25 minute run. To add another data point, my aunt has had great success with Chi running and injury prevention. Chad - Happy training! I think that Salty, Yanti, Chris and Co. have you covered in terms of Eugene. Kate - Great zoo video! Salty - big packet of Boston info! It's getting close! Yanti - That's some fast translating you have coming up! Salty - new job! Congratulations! |

Science Nerd 28760 Redwood City, California | Subject: RE: Mental Manatee Mentors Part 3--CLOSED jmkizer - 2013-03-28 11:01 AM General question - what do we think of Rock n Roll branded events? I have an aquatance that hate hate hates them and I'm not sure why. They are adding RnR Raleigh next year and I was thinking of it. I also have my eye on RnR Dublin but I think that was vetoed. Are RnR events too generic? Too 'pushing the local races out'? I've done them. I think they are overpriced, but are generally ok. I definitely had some issues with organization at the VA Beach one a few years ago. Bags got left at the bag check at starting line without trucks there to take them to the finish line because all the trucks left 15 minutes before race start. I did it again 2 years ago, and that didn't seem to be an issue. They do get really crowded. If that doesn't bother you, they can be fun. They seem like much more of a "destination" race to me than just doing the race because you are in the area. |

Glad it worked out for you! I think I'm actually lucky that BodyGlide didn't work well for me from the start, so I latched onto that great product early on. I've only done the San Diego RnR Marathon and I *loved* it. I mean, I was in an Elvis suit, going slow as a lazy glacier, and was still part of setting a world record so there wasn't much not to love However, both there and from many other RnR events, from what I've heard, run:walkers are very plentiful. I think a lot of the RnR events have generous cutoff times and are favorites with various community and charity organizations that train large groups (many beginners) for marathons, most often with the Galloway method or some variation of it. |

I think just because Bike MS is also in September. I have heard that Shamrock can be pretty packed too. Regarding your bike -- I wonder who decides on these women's specific models? I have the regular version of the Domaine because (1) the women's was an ugly purple (lots of brown in it) and (2) the geometry was actually the same! Who wants an ugly shade of purple when you can get RED? And now your Cannondale, you want the regular (not women's) paint job too. Who is making these decisions? |

That looks amazingly good! I want some.. |

Yay for progress! Isn't that an awesome feeling? Just the other night, I rode 24 miles...then I was only going to run 3 because my legs were a bit sore. When I hit the turnaround for 3 miles, I said to myself "If I can do 3, why not 4" - so I did one more! I still remember the day (less than 2 years ago) when I couldn't even run 1 mile on a treadmill. Life is good. |

Pretty easy run." Yay for progress! Hey, Mr. Fox...Because of your two swimming posts last night, I pushed myself to get in the pool for a short swim tonight. The lanes were full when I got to the gym, so I had to change out of suit for an hour until they cleared. Then it was getting late and I really didn't feel like changing again, but DH said lanes were open. Soooo...I remembered those Olympians, resuited and got in for 20min. Glad I did! DH watched my last 50 and said my form is MUCH improved from last time he watched. I'm still not fast, but at least something is better. Woohoo Congrats and nice job... |

Seattle | Subject: RE: Mental Manatee Mentors Part 3--CLOSED RnR events are great. They are slightly pricier than other events but these days, it's not that big of a difference. Especially if you get registered early (since they have several price increases.) Lots of walkers, yes, but also lots of really good competition and everything in between. |

Lots of walkers, yes, but also lots of really good competition and everything in between. At least at SD they had a lot of corrals and sure, people don't exactly self-seed correctly--but many do. At least from the back it looked like it was pretty smooth and organized from the start up through all the front ones |

I cannot recommend that race highly enough. I spoke to the sales manager (one of the owners). He said that, in general, women's bikes tend to have slightly longer top tubes and slightly shorter cranks because most women have shorter arms and longer legs. However, I have a longer torso and shorter legs, which means I do much better on a "men's" bike. We are taking measurements. He was pretty confident that we could do the men's bike when I told him how it usually works. Which is awesome because that matte black with blue and red accents is so much hotter than the shiny white. I'd end up calling the white one an iBike. |

Seattle | Subject: RE: Mental Manatee Mentors Part 3--CLOSED Had a killer workout last night with the team. We did 3 miles at 6:40 pace to "warm us up" and then a 15 minute recovery and then 6 all out repeats up a steep, gravel, nearly-quarter mile hill (with 2:00 recovery) This is the closest I've gotten to that puke threshold without actually puking. I thought my heart was going to explode. Hills like this are the 1 and only place where I can beat all of the women on our team. |
