I'd post a PSA about the DC Rainmaker Giveways but, well, to be totally honest, I don't want the competition!

Off the tri topic...

I came across this article yesterday and it reminded me of Salty's compassion in giving her attacker a second chance and not allowing him to ruin his life with one bad decision. Along those same lines, DS2 is a section leader and was awakened at 0100 this morning by the Master Chief because two of the young men in DS2's section were drunk and passed out on the laundry room floor. One was underage, they are both now out of the Navy. One bad decision...

It was a big weekend indeed.  Great race Sean.  Your bike split was amazing.  You are one of those guys that blows by  me like I'm standing still.

W00t w00t great job racers! Looking forward to reading the reports!

I had a great race over the weekend, errr well, an interesting race. I think between all the efforts I put in last week (including doing some strides too hard, who does that?!?!) I got to the line quite fatigued. I really had to dig deep in the race. I won the women's overall, continuing my precarious lead in the series but if I don't win the next race I will assuredly get second unless my competition screws up in the next two races.

After the race I had planned a very mountainous trail run which I had to cut in half due to extreme fatigue. It was beautiful, regardless

I ran into a bunch of runners doing a 50K training run for the cascade crest 100. Some pretty high profile people in the mountain/ultra type community. It was funny to see Instagram blowing up with photos of the stuff I had just run. However, I had only done a small portion of what they did.

I will say, running a hard, hard race followed by a training run is a good exercise in why we all advise to not go out too hard at the start.

Congrats on another great win.  You've had quite the summer with all these adventures.  The pictures are stunning.  Lots of good work for PPA getting up those mountains.

You need to stop posting all these awesome pics, makes me too jealous!! Good point at the end there. I tried to do my normal swim session this morning after racing hard yesterday. Yeah, couldn't do it. Get some rest/recovery and I'll try and do the same!

I hear you about training after a hard effort.  I was a bad boy this weekend and ran a half marathon at the last minute followed by a hard 30 mile ride the next day.  My run yesterday felt like I had wooden legs.

On the HM, I figured I'd get up early and just do a slow 13 miles and then I thought that heck I'd rather do it in a supported settting and there is a great HM not too far away.  The course is one of the most scenic as it is along waterfront and crosses a long footbridge over an estuary.  Saw a huge seal in the water gliding along next to the bridge.  I figured my knee would be a little sore and it was the first few miles before loosening up.  Ran 1:49 pretty comfortably.

Awesome pictures.  Very beautiful area. That must have been tough going at 12,800 ft.  I think I would have passed out.

Originally posted by fortissimo Thanks, everyone for the thoughts yesterday! I really felt the power through your mad stalking skills! Water temp was officially 78.1 so it was wetsuit optional. I, along with only 950 of the 2,900 crazies, choose to go without the wetsuit. Let me tell you it was the scariest swim I've ever done! It was a self-seed rolling start based on projected swim finish times. They started the non-wetties first, followed by those you wore the wettie. Everything about the start was brutal - more brutal than mass starts I've done and that was before they started the swimmers in wetties. I wasn't even half way to the first turn buoy when I got ran over by the fastest of the wetsuit swimmers. The swim course was also long - no one I know swam less than 2.6 miles. I was at 2.67 because I couldn't handle getting swam over and my head pushed down again by those who started after the non-wetties so I went to the outside right and just swam all by my lonesome. Unfortunately the kayakers were wearing the same color vests as the buoys and without my glasses I couldn't tell the difference. I probably said "Hi" to every volunteer on the swim course because I thought he or she was a buoy, hehe. I wasn't the only who did that either. I did throw a guy off of me in the swim. He swam over my lower right half and then hit me in the face, knocking my goggles off. That would have been okay except then, instead of just getting off me, he pushed my head under the water with his hand. On purpose! I grabbed him and threw him and he had the nerve to ask me what I did that for as I was trying to fix my goggles. The right goggle never sealed after that and it leaked - not that that matters because I can't see anyways!! Over-all I had a great day. When I finally get some sleep and food I'll tell you more about the day. Sean - awesome job!!!

Great race Robin.  Sorry to hear about getting whacked in the swim but you sure had a fast split.  Can't wait to hear the rest of the details.

My biggest takeaway from that one was that my body can't process the lactic acid in my legs as quickly at that altitude. My legs were feeling like lead the last mile or two.

I feel like a bad teammate. Nothing in the works for racing; no real training; no Pikes trip/meet-up...

Such awesome trips and races you all have been doing lately! Thank you guys for sharing the beautiful pictures.

I do have one piece of happy to report. Through a series of random chats with a friendly bartender, I'm getting back to my first love. She's been nice enough to invite me out to ride this handsome fellow, and we've snuck in a couple of rides between my trips and the heat. We're looking to make it a weekly thing.

We'd been on Black Bear that morning. We were on another trail by the time it happened but had crossed paths with the group that rescued the couple on the quad.

No joke, seems like you race every weekend! How do you plan that with your training? Just use the races as your tempo run for the week (obviously they're faster than tempo though)?

Which BHAM race is that again? I know a bunch of my teammates went up for the marathon. There was a marathon right?

Race and recover like jeckyll and hyde (as my coach would say) heh heh

Really that's it. Some races get more of a taper and more of a recovery and others I just go right through. So ultimately it is about prioritization. And resiliency lol

Gorgeous setting for a HM!!!

Glad the knee is all good

Which BHAM race is that again? I know a bunch of my teammates went up for the marathon. There was a marathon right?

Well, I wouldn't quite say the knee is all good as it is achy and sore but seems to loosen up enough when I need it to.  If I felt I had more time I probably would let it rest more.  I get a little fatalistic when I have scans coming up and push things more than conventional wisdom would have.

This race was in Anacortes.  There were a few other halfs around the region but not sure about any marathons.
