Ouch.  That's like borderline vO2 max.  Nice work.

Thank you. the 80:20 plans have lots of rest between the intervals so didn't die.

Thursday evening was an hour on the treadmill. 40min Z2 with 6x1 minute Z5 intervals to finish. Misread the training plan, that was supposed to be Z4 intervals. Woops.

Have a good weekend everyone.

@Gretchen, how's your recovery/prep for the Half Iron going?

Huh…I posted a message earlier today and it is gone (or never actually posted?).

My week…
Monday—drove home, rest day
Tuesday—2150yds in the pool, 33’ run, strength training
Wednesday—60’ ride
Today—30’ run, 40’ ride, 30’ with trainer

Tomorrow is a swim and the Saturday is like 10’ of all three disciplines. Ready to crush it this weekend!

Crush everything!!

Mike—which day is your race?

I’m happy to report that I think I’m out of the woods vis-a-vis poison X. No each has appeared yet, and it has been five days.

Sunday, which looks like the way better day for racing this weekend here.  The women's race is tomorrow (the one Nicole was, you know, 1st overall a few years ago...I was looking at race results to see what I'd need to place well and saw her name and I'm like "Whoa...I remember that!").  Should be a fun day.

Good luck this weekend Mike and Gretchen!

Had a pretty good week so far, even managed a proper strength session on Thursday which I am still sore from this morning (Saturday).

Played golf in my work’s annual tournament yesterday. Played my best round ever, going sub 100 strokes (98) for the first time ever (a little embarrassing to admit that, having played for over 20 years but I don’t care). Yes, another PR in 2023, what a year!
It wasn’t enough to win though, I finished 2nd in everything: yesterday’s game, the team competition and the main tournament where we register scores throughout the Summer and add them up.

Have a great weekend!

Congrats Nat!! I’ve never played a round of golf in my life, sounds boring as he!! To me, but I’m glad you had fun getting a pr!

Up early for bike and run today, then washed my bike and packed for my race. I’ll drive up in a few hours and spend the night in a hotel after driving the race course. It is essentially the same as my oly from earlier in the month, but always nice to know if any major road issues have arisen since I was here last.

I’ve never finished this race, so I have no time to chance. Guess I’ll just have to use my previous HIM pr, which is 7:18:52. I’m gunning for sub-7 (and yes…I’m slow, but I can go forever!)

Good luck Mike on your race!!

Very solid race today for me...5/14 AG and 43/160 overall male.  RR to be written tomorrow but other than the first 5-6 minutes of the swim (which was a hyperventilating mess in 65 degree water, which I was NOT ready for) all went well and on plan.

Go Gretchen!!!

More later, but very good day. First AG, pr by about 15’, and 2’ off my STREEEEEEEETCH GOAL OF sun-7hr. That would be the exact amount of time I spent in the porta and it makes me think I should have just peed my pants on transition! Not too bad for a super HOT day (~90F and NO shade).

RR is up...ridiculously long for a sprint but I enjoy writing them.

https://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=559649&posts=1#M5286995

TL:DR version:  water was effing cold, meh transitions, nailed the bike, solid run for me at this point, 5/14 AG, 43/160 OA male, had a great time.

Two days later and I'm still walking up and down stairs like Fred Sanford.  The rest of October is going to be working out when I feel like it and spending ten days in Rome and Florence, then I start up an off-season run plan, including a Turkey Trot 5K.

Is anyone else having trouble with posts being missing in the web version of this page? The last post listed in the web version is Andrew's from 28 September. I have many, many posts in the app version after that. I don't understand where the messages are going!

Anyway, like Mike, I'm taking some time to rest, recover, and think about next season. I haven't done anything since my race on Sunday except medical appointments (ugh). When you are only home for three months, you end up stacking all your appointments during that time, and it seems like you go to the doctor every day! Today was an MRI of my neck to see if there is nerve impingement causing the issue I've had with my left arm for a while--there is pain in the elbow and the fourth and fifth digits go numb sometimes. We thought we had identified the problem as cubital tunnel syndrome (like carpal tunnel, just on the other side of the wrist), but then I went for one last nerve conduction study before scheduling surgery to fix it, and the dr who did that test thinks the issue might be up in my neck, not in my arm. Neck surgery sounds so much scarier than arm surgery, so I'm hoping they don't find impingement in the neck. I have resigned myself to the fact that I will need surgery to fix this issue, but I'm hoping arm--even if it is at both the wrist and the elbow, not neck. Also, trying to get this all taken care of before I head to Egypt at the end of the month.

Hope everyone is having a good week so far!

Congrats to both of you, that's amazing! Mike, sorry to hear the beginning was a bit panicky, but glad you were able to get in a groove.
Gretchen, crazy how different your weather was! That sounds mighty warm (and no shade! ouch!).

Thanks, Nicole.  Only the water was cold...once I got out it was pretty much perfect racing weather.

@Everyone - check out Alice's plea for help on the Tri Talk forum.  I knew this day was coming.

Hey everyone! I've had a busy week and a half. I was able to bounce back from my rough weekend of debauchery last week. I biked 3 times, did some strength, and didn't drink at all. Had a 3 day music festival this weekend, and managed to get through it only having 2 drinks (though I did partake in other recreational (now legal in Maryland) activities. I woke up feeling good every morning. I ate decent enough, did some strength and yoga. I didn't really track my activities in my notebook. I decided on vacation that I can just aim to do my best, but not worry about checking all the boxes. Overall I'm really happy with it.

I'm also getting back into my routine now that I'm home. I actually got a perfect sleep score the other night! First time that has ever happened. I have a big meeting tomorrow so have been working long days, but after tomorrow am hoping to feel a little relief.

Mike and Gretchen welcome to off season, I've been waiting for you.

Regarding the site, I only use this forum so I am not prepared to pay for it unfortunately

I don't blame you.  It doesn't have enough modern bells and whistles and a horrid mobile experience.  I have almost 15 years of training logs and race reports here, and like to use the planning tool to fool around with scheduling, so I paid the $50/year for bronze membership but even if a hundred people did that there's no way that pays to run the site, especially with the inflationary pressures we've seen worldwide the past couple of years.
