Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Yesterday I took an unplanned day off as I just didn't feel like training. First day off since early August and no regrets. We found out on Thursday my dad has widespread lung cancer. He meets with oncologist Wednesday and hope to learn more about type, stage, treatment options and more. Now it is the wait and see time. It's tough as he is in Minnesota and far from us. Today's ride it was windy, overcast and in the low 50s...had to wear tights, wool socks, headband, long finger gloves and wind breaker. Next week almost 22 hours of training, and planned rides around what I hope is nicer days to ride. Will do my first IM race rehearsal Thursday and see how watts on the bike and goal run pace feels. Race rehearsals in my HIM really helped me know my watt goals were good for me. I hope they do the same for my IM watt goals. |

Champion 8766 Evergreen, Colorado | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I managed a 100 mile ride today while learning lots about my nutrition plan. Let's all hope the weather here isn't like it was today...temps were OK but the wind was 15 gust 25....that was NOT fun! I still haven't gotten over to PCB to preride the course, but maybe in two weekends I can...the 23rd.... |

When my mum first got sick I was away from home as well and it was so hard . I hope you get some good news on Wednesday and that it is early stage. |

Expert 1148 Santa Fe, New Mexico | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread ironeric2010 - 2010-10-03 5:45 PM Had an awesome workout friday. 95 miles on bike, tough wind averaged 17.5 mph at about 75% MHR. Ran 10 miles after, and smoked it. 10 min/miles averaging about 80% MHR. People were looking at me funny cause I was smiling so big. Tried to run Saturday morning at 11 min/mile but only made it about 3 miles at that pace. Legs were like jello. Turned around after 4 and walked home for a total of 8. What's odd to me is that I know I could have run another 8 or so on Friday, at 10 min/mile. It sounds like several of us are having similar experiences. I could have easliy run more after the 1/2 mary on Saturday, but could barely walk on Sunday. It must have something to do with how tired you are when you start. Edited by jashac 2010-10-04 1:48 PM |

Member 49 Toronto | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread very non-training weekend for me. Saturday all set to a 200k ride, I got about 60k into it, the rain started, then it poured, then the temp dropped. It took me another 40 to get home, by then uncontrolable shivering. Sunday turned into a rest day, in an attempt to not get sick. looks like it be trainer time for me as well. |

Did a little over 80 miles on the bike Saturday followed by 1 hour brick run. Felt good on the run (granted, the bike was slower than normal and I was doing a 4/1 on the run). Long run Sunday morning (a little over 14 miles) felt good. Wore recovery socks and rested in the evening both days, but this morning's hour long run was a suffer fest. Of course, it didn't help that I got up at 4am to do it. Tomorrow is a rest day and enjoy the kid's sports day. A couple more weeks of the big stuff for most of us I imagine and then we start taper. Hang in there folks!!! |

I live just down the 401 from TO so I had the same weather this weekend. I did my long run Saturday and got completely soaked. At least running you don't get as cold as biking. |

Champion 8766 Evergreen, Colorado | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Has anyone done any riding on the course lately? I'm trying to remember if the Wal-Mart has any signs up saying you can't park there unless you are a customer. A lot of places near the beach get so picky about that. I want to pre-ride the course on Sunday and don't want to get my car towed.... |

I know one of the folks doing FL lives in PCB..he might know. He hasn't posted much lately. |

Regular 88 Dallas, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread man, how can y'all stand to be on the trainer for so long???? i literally CAN NOT sit there on the trainer for more than 30 minutes TOPS. it drives me crazy and literally will me off and i will not have a good workout at all. i cannot even fathom the idea of even thinking about maybe doing 2 hours on the trainer, let alone 5+!!!! y'all are crazy Thank God I live in Texas and I can ride outdoors year-round (as long as the roads aren't iced over). although i'm planning on investing in some rollers to see if i can tolerate them for the rainy winter days. my IM training is going good. having a bit of knee pain on longer runs but it looks like worn out shoes are the culprit (as well as increase in mileage too). but i'll be picking up my new shoes tonight and hopefully the pain doesn't return. fingers crossed. |

Two more big weekends for me as well before taper begins. Doing a century ride this weekend followed by a 1 hour brick Saturday and a 2:45 run Sunday. Next weekend is a 6 hr ride/1 hr run brick Saturday and a 3 hr run Sunday. Taper begins after that, but looking ahead I still have a 4 hr ride the following weekend. I'm trusting the plan. |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread For me a 3 week taper was to long and I think I lost fitness during my taper first IM. Second IM was just under 2 week taper. My mom had heart surgery 3 weeks out so I was out of town with her which mucked up training a bit but I did get all my runs in and swam as much as I could. Cycling was a bit off but a local BTer lent me her bike to ride a little. |

Champion 8766 Evergreen, Colorado | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread This will be my last HUGE week...18 hours. Then I have a recovery week (dang my sister getting married during IM training...what was she thinking?). Then I BELIEVE the week after that will be "signficant" but I know the rides/runs won't be as long as this week. I guess I can call that the start of the taper, but it's still probably a big week.... |

I've done a 10-14 day taper for all my IMs and its worked really well for me. I definately need the extra running |
