Thanks for your thoughts, guys.  I'm still pretty worked up about it but I'm sure the hormones have something to do with it.   Anyway, I have a general practitioner doctor in my Spinning class.  I spoke with him this morning.  He said that he is sure he knows me much better than my doctor and told me that 140 is a stupid, arbitary number that is thrown out there for the general population.  It is not meant for athletes.  He told me to continue to listen to my body.  It will let me know how hard I can workout.

Unfortunately, I cannot get a different doctor.  This is small area and all of the ob doctors work out of the same office and have the same opinions.  My own doctor probably won't even deliver my baby.  It all depends on which ob is on call that particular day.  It is all so impersonal.  Sucky deal.

Tracy, just fyi, I just read recently in fitphd's blog (she's also preggo) that her doctor (who is a runner) told her she can run as much as she wants as long as she's not uncomfortable (or somethign along those lines).  you know, maybe you can ask Ron to add a forum for pregnant triathletes or something, I'm sure there is a lot of information you guys could share.

happy friday guys!

Hey everyone!  I wanted to dish out my regular inspires on Friday, but I was moving offices and changing computers.  I was off the grid for long stretches of time.

I made some mistakes during my long run today and now I'm paying the price.  Oh well!  I  have learned something for next time.

Enjoy your weekend!

ETA:  BTW, I was so out of it after the run, I jumped into the pool with my Garmin on!!!  YIKES!!!!  It seems to be just fine - thank goodness.....

Good morning all!

The 5K swim went great and it was a lot of fun! Most people did it without a wetsuit, like 370 without and 40 with. Makes me feel like I need to HTFU a little bit next year and brave the cold....

Race report is up.

I did a master's swim once when we were experiencing some unusually cold weather at the Jersey shore. Let's just say that I was cold with my wetsuit on. I don't know how all those people did it without. There was 800 ppl in the race (only 1 mile), and like 10 of us had wetsuits. Haha.

Excellent job, though. A 5K swim sounds like a lot of fun!

Lisa, thanks for the advice!   I went to a prenatal yoga class on Friday.  It is taught by a midwife.  I asked her lots of questions and she said exactly what you have heard....just listen to your body and it will tell you when too much is too much.  That's what I'm gonna go with.

Today, my body is telling me that I feel like a pile of crap that needs to stay close to a toilet in case I hurl!  I think I'm going to listen to it!

Oh, the prenatal yoga was awesome!  I'm gonna keep going!

Haha.

You know, my cousin taught a spinning class all through her pregnancy. I am sure she didn't push it as hard as she normally would have, but she still did fine. I'm glad you feel better keeping active. Apparently, activity can be a little tough during the first trimester though, so just hang in there .

Just thought I'd put this out there.  I put it in my blog, too.

I had a crazy idea.  It might be the hormones talking.  Not sure.  I think I'd like to do the California 70.3 in April 2010.  The baby will be one year old.  My Mom could take care of the baby while I race since she lives down there.  The weather is almost always cool and comfortable.  I have no idea how deconditioned I'll be after giving birth or how long it will take me to get back to my pre-baby level.  Anyway, what do you guys think?

I think you'll be fine. It sounds like you'll be keeping active through the pregnancy, so you won't be starting from scratch when you return to training after giving birth. A year will be enough time to prepare. Great goal!! Good luck .

That doesn't sound crazy at all.  It's a year to get ready, plus you know what it's all about - so it's not like "couch to HIM".  You will be fine!

Lauren (or anyone else),

I need some help with a plan modification.  I have my thoughts, but could use a second opinion...

I'm traveling next weekend when I have a long bike planned.  this weekend is a long run.  I'm thinking of simply switching the two because I can run on vacation, but not bike.

look at my calendar:

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/trainingplans-calendar.asp?printer=1&planid=406

Look at the end of weeks 12 and 13 (and the days around it).  Looking to swap the 2:20 run with the 5hr bike - that's it...  Maybe I should adjust some of the days before and after the weekend too?  OR, stick to the plan and simply skip the 5hr bike?

Thoughts?

Hmmm.  Vacations get in the way of training!  Can you swap the weeks?  It looks like that 5 hour bike ride is too important to drop all together.

Need to look at this later when I can concentrate more. Looks like you don't Long ride every weekend, but alternate it?

How many weeks left to taper after Wk: 13?

Don't skip it.

Can you get in the long ride on a weekday at all that week? Would be hesitant to give you an extra 7 days between long runs...

That's what is a little confusing.  I just did a long run this last weekend, so I thought I would be due for a long bike.  But they wanted another long run instead.  So I will be doing a true alternating schedule if I DO make the switch (however, I'm not sure what happends the last 7 weeks).  Schedule wise, I think just swapping the two make most sense.  I will be 3 hours heavy this week, and 3 hours light the following week, but it's basically a wash, because the long bike is on Sunday, just before the "week" changes, so it's kind of in between weeks - if that makes any sense.

I just wonder if the entire preceeding week gets you geared up for either a long bike or long run, and I could be screwing it up (so maybe swap the whole week?).

Most likely, I'm thinking WAY to much about this, and I should just bike this weekend, run on vacation, and call it bueno....

Brick workout:  Needed?

I just noticed a lack of brick workouts in the first 11 weeks of my plan.  Figured they would start getting worked in during the peak phase of the plan.  I looked ahead and realized there are NO bricks planned.

I'm not thrilled about this.  But I do have some suspicious days (like today).  Where I have a 2 hr bike and a 20 minute run.  That begs to be done as a brick (to me).  20 minutes is barely worth getting dressed for to do by itself.  However, it makes perfect sense to do it after the bike.

Not sure if I should follow the plan exactly, or modify it.

I have a chance to race on the 28th.  A sprint, oly, or HIM.  I think I want to do the HIM, but worry that could disrupt the training too much.  I'm a little worried that it may take a while to recover.

I think after an oly, I wouldn't miss a beat (at least I didn't after the race a couple weekends ago).

Thoughts?

How fast did you bounce back from the HIM you did earlier this year? Maybe it would be a similar recovery time? Even if your body bounced back from it quickly, keep in mind that if you felt any burnout after the HIM you risk the same response now. Seems like you're pretty motivated though!

Sprint or Oly, especially if it wasn't something that's built into your season. Six weeks is right on that cusp...

Hey guys!!  Congrats on the 10K owl_girl

I need some training mojo vibes!  I haven't been all that motivated the past few days.  It so tough to get out there when you just don't feel like it.  I think I'm going to switch up my running routes this week and look at some different scenery.  Hopefully that'll help!

Are you doing any more races this season? If not, no worries about the lack of mojor...it helps force you into a little bit of an off-season. New running routes always help...I always run different routes this time of year .

No more tris   I'm doing the MCM on 10/26, but it seems so far away.  That's why I'm worried about my mojo since I can't really slack on the runs.

I do like to run, but when I feel like it and for whatever distance I feel like running.  I think I'm just bad at following a schedule.   I need some spice.. haha

I'm feeling ok.  Last week was pretty bad.  I was tired and feeling icky most of the time.  Hopefully I'll start feeling better soon.  I'd really like to have a little more energy.
