What items are safe on the stomach? Bananas? pretzels? How long should I wait to drink any cola on the run? Will there be any affects I should be aware of? Any last week thoughts that anyone can think of that has not already been mentioned?
Keep eating the blocks or gels. If you've trained to handle them for the run you will be able to handle them on the run.
Sorry about being AWOL as of late. Family BS, work BS, and now I'm sick. Fun times. |

Sorry about being AWOL as of late. Family BS, work BS, and now I'm sick. Fun times. x2 If you're having GI distress its likely because you have too much heat stress, too much intensity stress or are dehydrated. Changing the type of CHO (and especially going ot harder to digest forms of CHO such as bananas or pretzels) will not make your staomch feel better. With Coke, because of the simple sugars and caffeine there's a big boost but also a crash. I like to limit Coke to the last 10K (or hour) of racing. |

Sorry about being AWOL as of late. Family BS, work BS, and now I'm sick. Fun times. To expand on what Kel is saying here. Your body handles solids better on the bike than on the run. Once on the run small periodic, easy to digest foods are necessary. Putting real solids in your stomach that late in the game will divert blood from where you need it (your aerobic system) and to your stomach to digest the food. Just a bad idea all around.

Extreme Veteran 3020 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed Carrie - personally, I'd skip the wetsuit if it's too warm. Also, I agree with Kelly and Scott. Just stick with the nutrition you've used in training. By the time I hit the run portion of my HIM last year I was soo sick of the gels. I still consumed them. No cramping, dehydration, or issues of any sort on run. You can get something more palatable post-race! Good luck this weekend! Super excited for you |

Extreme Veteran 3020 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed Humidity sucks. It's really hurting my run training. Lower volume week for me before my final 2 really big weeks. Then it's Cleveland oly and taper time. |

Expert 1481 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed Glad you are feeling better. 15 mile ride this morning at low intensity. Combination of the humidity and a mist in the air I was soaked when I got home but it was all water and no sweat. |

Member 413 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed Hope everyone is well! I have been on vacation many of the last ten days, although I worked all night last night.... not the most ideal week of race. Because of vacation, my taper has been a little too long but it is not like I can throw down any hard sessions now that I am 5 days away from my only race of the season (HIM).... |

Extreme Veteran 3020 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed Anyone here use a rear hydration setup? I ordered the parts I need and intend on putting it together this weekend. Any tips? Anything I should know? I really wish I didn't have Celiac disease and could take handoffs at the aid stations. It just seems so simple doing it that way. |

Once I start doing longer rides I may put it back on to have a hydration variety besides just water. As of now my longest ride has been just over an hour.
60 min on the trainer this morning, felt pretty good other than the fact my dogs hate being ignored for that long. |

Which one did you get Jen? |

Which one did you get Jen? I got the same one, Scott. Opinion after using it for an IM? |

Which one did you get Jen? Worked well for me. I had one on the bars, one on the back, and a gear bottle on the down tube. For you I'd put one on the front, both on back and put more hydration on the down tube. See if you can tape your flat kit under your saddle rails or in the bag that came with the mini wing. |

LOL The other thing you can/should do is put a complete set of bottles in your Bike special needs bag. That way you can start with 4 bottles, drink those on the first half and then grab the additional 4 bottles for the second half. IMMT average temp is high 60s so you should be good with 8 bottles. I would also put a few of the skratch single serve powder sleeves in your bento box in case you need to mix at some point on the ride. |

Extreme Veteran 828 North Shore, MA. | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed I have the X-Lab mini wing, too. So far it's been great. I bounced 1 bottle on some huge train tacks, but that is my only spill. On other bumps and tracks everything has stayed put and I really like having it on there. Am I right in thinking I should go through 1 bottle of perform between aid stations? I thought I saw that somewhere, but wasn't certain. Also, I will be doing 1 gel every 30 mins on the bike, should I stick with that for the run or do I need less on the run? |

Extreme Veteran 668 NW Georgia | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed I have a similar setup on my bike, although I don't believe it is an x-lab. I turned the bag under my seat straight up and down and it fit fine between the seat post and the bottle holders. The opening faces down and it's not ideal for easy access, but it's there if I need it, it's out of my way and holds all my flat gear. I'll try to get a picture of it tonight, if you want to see it. |
