Expert 977 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread My gosh, is anyone else really tired? I am beat! This week hasn't been bad, just the normal stuff but a Little shorter intervals. Ugh! Haircut tonight, want to be as light as possible for the race. Every .5 oz helps right? Went out and bought some Stinger Waffles and a bunch of chews. Already have gels out the ying yang. Going to Target later to get some more Cliff Bars and new compression underwear. My mom always said to have on good underwear in case you get into an accident I'll wear it this weekend then save for the race. Wetsuit swim last night with new pair of goggles. Will put the goggles away until our swim on Thursday. Just wanted to make sure they worked OK and wanted to gt an extra swim in. Speaking of swim. Does anyone else get really tired in the first say 500 yards? First 100 - 200 is fine then it feels like I am out of breath and my arms will fall off. This passes by say 1,000 yards or so but man, mentally it is tough. Once it passes I am fine and can swim and swim and swim...... Before I travel I always take Echinacea. I take it starting 1 - 2 weeks before travel. It is somewhat like the Glucosamine Chondroitin, works for some, not for others. Seems to work for me and my wife so I'll stick with what works. Stay healthy everyone. Duane |

Actually flying Continental from Boston to Fort Walton as I have tons of points on Continental and coming down with the family. Current owner of Gansett Beer is a close friend and i finally convinced him that we should make up Gansett riding/tri kits last year. We now have "Team Gansett" - group of local folks dedicated to health, fitness, fun and the occasional beer! Here is a pic of the core guys after Jamestown Classic Bike Race. Look forward to meeting you in FL. Love the Narragansett stuff. I'm originally from the cape Edited by Socks 2011-10-27 1:35 PM |

Member 44 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Socks You should see the full biking kit! The back of the jersey has "Have a Gansett" with the slogan "Hi Neighbor" - the shorts have "Bye Neighbor" - tons of great comments on the kit. It is available to the public too, though we haven't got it on the Gansett website yet. My pit crew will have Gansett's for any takers at the finish too See you all in PC! |

This week hasn't been bad, just the normal stuff but a Little shorter intervals. Ugh! Duane Yeah, I am exhausted this week, and feeling a little under the weather. But my wife reminds me that I always feel this way in advance of an event.... Skipped Tue/Thur am easy track sessions and opted for an extra 2 hours of sleep...and needed more. Keeping up with some easy swims. This is my first IM rodeo and am learning that there is a proven method to the peak and taper. I am coming off 3 consecutive weeks of 15 - 18 hours of intense workouts. So, trying to listen to my body and just take the sleep. I am going to do one more easy 12 mile run this weekend. How about others? It's weird when a 12 miles run and anything on the bike less than 70 miles is "short". |

I am the weird one. I LOVE taper. I'm not tired. I'm not hungry all the time. I don't hurt.......at least not anymore than usual. I have time to do the things I blew off while in a big build and loving the excitement and anticipation. I'm also probably the calmest racer you will ever meet. Its not life or death, its a hobby and its supposed to be fun. Enjoy the ride and thr fruits of many months of training!! |

35 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Agree that is crazy to call that "short" I used to think that kind of training was not for mere mortals and now it's gotten normal for me. I only have a 8 mile run as my last long run and I won't even be warmed up after only 8. |

Stay healthy everyone. Duane I got some good tips about how to swim because I was feeling the same way a few weeks ago and the key is 1) for the first 200m to 400m use short arm raise stroke and glide till things seattle abit then then open up up your back and then do long reach around the barrel mosition to use your back muscle to do all the work and not your arms/shoulders so much . |

Master 1436 Wilmington | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Hi all So I am flying in on Wednesday with my bike and wondering if anyone has used the ironman bike service at the race to put there bike back together. I pretty sure I can do it no problem but you know one less thing to think about and to repack the bike after the race. |

Expert 945 Auburn AL | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Been reading the last few pages, as I have not been on the computer all day and this thread has been BUSY. Can relate to the GERM and AIRBORNE comments...lol Went to pick up my son tonight from my X and he was sniffling and complaining about neck and back being sore. OMG I have never felt so selfish in all my life. I explained and she agreed that I could not expose myself if he is in fact sick. I have to get him on Saturday...I am thinking about getting a baby sitter and going to a hotel ...LOL I can not imagine coming down with something that sidelines you from the race. My ITB almost has me sidelines, but at least I will feel good till it starts killing me. STAY HEALTHY EVERYONE |

I pretty sure I can do it no problem but you know one less thing to think about and to repack the bike after the race. You could use them or to get faster, good service probably lots cheaper...go to the Alvin Island parking lot and Dragon Sports has set up a tent with and they do repairs big and small and minor adjustments...sell stuff, have pumps you can use. Last year they adjusted a couple things for free on my bike as my FD wouldn't shift after I put bike back together. They had a tip jar that I put some money in. Jen DiCarlo uses them as she lives near PCB and recommends one mechanic who works on her bikes. |

Picked up my husband from the airport and on way back came upon a bad crash with one car on its side with a State Trooper over what appeared to be a women on her back on the freeway. I hope she makes it. |
