Pro 4672 Nutmeg State | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed Originally posted by cheekymonkeys1 I have the X-Lab mini wing, too. So far it's been great. I bounced 1 bottle on some huge train tacks, but that is my only spill. On other bumps and tracks everything has stayed put and I really like having it on there. Am I right in thinking I should go through 1 bottle of perform between aid stations? I thought I saw that somewhere, but wasn't certain. Also, I will be doing 1 gel every 30 mins on the bike, should I stick with that for the run or do I need less on the run? On the run you need less (and your stomach can't handle as much as it does on the bike). As a starting recommendation I usually suggest sports drink at every aid station and a shot blok every mile or every other mile depending on the athletes lean body mass with a gel at the half way point. I find that small, more frequenlt packages of calories (a shot blok is about 30 calories) works better than largeer packages of calories (a gel is about 100 calories). |

My wife won't even let me leave them in the garage overnight and there's no way they're getting inside my truck. I hate to ditch them as they're in good shape otherwise, but omg. Any ideas that might help? |

Shaun says you can wash them in the dishwasher. Never tried it though. |

Expert 1481 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed If you get a chance to watch a replay of the TDF time trial check out Chris Froome's body position. He is so flat he's almost head down. That has to be so uncomfortable. I have no idea how he maintains that position and yet all that power for so long. |

Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed So I assume it is totally normal to have tons of anxiety the days before a big first race? Stomach is all tied in knots, not getting good full nights sleep, headaches ... nothing else has changed. Need to get out of work early today to get home and finish packing and get some much needed rest! I really can't wait to sleep in on a regular basis! Temps are still looking good ... way better than last year. About a high of 81 for the day, which I will hit on my run. |

Extreme Veteran 3020 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed 3 x 800 swim test tomorrow morning. Ew. Positive thing is that it's a really good pre-IM swim session. 2400 at threshold I'm volunteering as a timer for second half of away meet tonight (WTH was I thinking). Going to be a late night for me. I'm taking my good camera to the meet tonight. I will try to post a cool pic of my kids swimming after I upload tomorrow morning. |

I never have problems sleeping but I have tons of GI distress. I think that's how the stress eats at my body. Do as much as you can to keep occupied. Take a long bath. Watch a good movie. You're going to do well this weekend. You're ready! |

I couldn't stop thinking about the race and focus on anything the week before the race. I slept ok but was grumpy and anxious. I tried to keep as busy as possible. It is normal for sure. When are you leaving? |

Member 216 Haymarket, VA | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed Had some stomach issues this morning during Masters. After almost throwing up 3x I decided that was enough, and stopped at 800m. I'm sure it was the combo of a stressful day yesterday which had me eat very little for dinner last night, and the dogs throwing off my schedule this morning so I downed a larabar as I was pulling up to the pool. |

Member 413 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed so my plan today was to be super duper chill on the legs today. Well here my transportation mode of choice is walking..... I calculated I walked 6 or 7 miles today already ! Figure I will immediately gain 10 pounds if I ever move out of this city from all the walking we do. |

Probably walked 6-10 miles a day on average and rarely took the subway. Put them up this evening!!! Good luck this weekend! |

Veteran 580 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed I apologize folks for being AWOL for a bit. While being self-employed has its advantages, taking time off means being really backed up with stuff. This, coupled with training, has resulted in exhaustion at night. We have had two sick dogs and have been nursing a chicken who was attacked by a fox (resulting in two ER visits, and believe it or not xrays and a cast for her broken leg). I have been so sleep deprived that yesterday morning I began making oatmeal on the burner (using a double boiler) and forgot to add water. I have never seen a copper pan almost catch fire. I also hate to admit but I have done some micro-nods while with patients. I lost my cell phone the other day and had to buy a new one. In spite of my exhaustion, my training seems to be going well. Did 3x20 min run test the other weekend and was pretty pleased with the result. Pretty pleased with my rides and I haven't died while doing my OWS and my back and shoulder seems to be recouping....so I've got that going for me. I have also been practicing flying dismounts - which I have down pat - and flying mounts - which I do not. So....Scott and Jen thanks for the words of encouragement for my HIM. David - I have placed smelly shoes in a ziplock bag in the freezer. It helps (allegedly) to kill the baceteria and seemed to improve the stench. Katie - Have a blast and the best of wishes for you at Musselman. Sounds like a fun course. I look forward to hearing about it. Carrie - I know you have trained so hard for Muncie and really hope for you that you have the result you wish for - regadless of time. I plan on follwoing you with the irontrack thing a ma jig. Rudy - have a blast this weekend. Todd - Sorry to hear about the recent training experiences. Have you done your Oly yet or is it this weekend. If it is this weekend, I am sending good mo jo your way. |
