I love this show. Anyone else watch it? Never heard of it, to be honest. My wife got all the academy award nominees on DVD to review for the SAG awards. I may watch Capt. Phillips tonight. It is a great show starring Timothy Olyphant. He is a US Marshall in Kentucky on FX. You should check it out. timothy olyphant is DEAD SEXY. He's ok. He looked weird in Hitman with a bald head. See him in one of the Die Hard movies? I remember now the show. Never saw it but saw it advertised. Reminds me of Banshee on one of the premium channels. That's a good show. |

This is Ford Engine plant. Honda is tough as well I used to deal with them and from an Engineering and parts and process improvements, I loved dealing with them. Not so much with their shipping business rules that they changed all the time. Don't get me wrong I love my new job I have been here for 8 weeks. I fit in well, I am now 10 mins from home, I have never worked this close to home and the pay is decent. I have Corby Distilleries trying to hire me now but I am debating highly about it. Nice to leave automotive and get into booze. But it requires moving and I have had Soooo much personal life change in the last year or so. I kind of just want to settle down and try and get in a routine and try and lose this 20 lbs I have gained in the last year. Ok last 4 months or so. Between a divorce and being a new dad with new girlfriend and new job. Life has been a fast paced roller coaster. |

Is it Suddhir Bomerarlarlarlalarlrady (I can't remember his last name) the auto industry will suck you in and make you unhirable in other industries -- if that is something you are worried about you should seriously consider the new role. but if you are OK with working in auto (its NOT going anywhere, that's for sure) and you are happy, why mess with it? i like changing industries to keep my skills sharp and just expose me to lots of stuff, i've done building products, food packaging, chemicals, and auto. i actually like auto the most. i really think i am suited for working for a large company - and automotive sure has that! |
![]() ![]() |
![]() | ![]() I kind of agree. I was in chemical for a brief period, but this is where I really excel. My plant isn't huge but the corporation is. The product we make here is profitable and growing and we are the only NA plant that makes it in our corporation so we do all the prototyping, design, production etc in one spot. I have multiple projects and production expansions this coming year and we look well set into 2017 with current product. Nice part is we are on engines and that doesn't change like exterior or interior. I work for Dana Corporation now. They seem to treat people very well, forward thinking, invest in training and are offering to cover some more schooling. Corby pays better but I have a friend there that tells me NO room for growth so many people have worked there for 25+ years and won't move on that he has been stuck in the same role for 12 years. That scares me. I already have a succession path planed for me here in a 3 year plan that was handed to me on day one. But the desire to leave automotive to something more stable is what is pulling oh that and $2400 a year in free booze hahahaa. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Automotive is nice, because things are always changing and there are always opportunities. The problem is also there that they (company A) will shut down 3 plants and move the equipment and zero manpower to other facilities. |

I agree always a risk. 19 years in the professional working world I have always had to commute at least 22 miles one way to work. Several other positions were closer to 60 miles one way. I am now 3.. count it 3 miles to work. I can ride my bicycle in the summer.. YAY That part has me pumped. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() That short ride to work or walk to work would be awesome. I live about 30 minutes from work now and hate wasting that time on the road, and if I want/need to go back to the plant for something, it isn't close by. We are seriously looking at some closer place to live that are near trails that I could ride to work each day. There is no safe way to ride a bicycle to work on the route I have to take now, or I would consider it during the warm enough months.

![]() | ![]() MEH come to aerospace! It's fun seeing BIG parts in the factory! There is a job opening in my area of expertise at the local (new-ish) casino. I thought about applying but am getting a gut hesitation. Not sure that is an industry I want to be in..? It's intriguing though.

The casinos here are people dumpsters. They are SO tired and used up. Even those not on the floor get used up quickly. We have a strong labor pool here as unemployment is high in southeastern CT and RI, so they can do it. They also run excursions to eastern Europe and Latin America to bring in immigrants to clean hotel rooms and work restaurant back of house jobs. |

Machining big parts would be neat. I was impressed with the 3 2500 Ton presses at my last place stamping out huge car rail parts making 22 parts a min when it ran properly. I am a Process geek at heart. I love watching how things are made and tuning the process and making it better, faster, cheaper, more efficient. Plus I am a boy. I like to watch things go bang. |

You would love our factory. In 2006 we were building 737 fuselages (and nacelles and pylons and other crap) at a 26/month rate. In 2015 we will be building them at 47/month with the same foot print. Talk about process improvements and such. |

Everytime I am in Kansas it is to go to the FORD or GM plant for a customer issue. And it isn't anywhere near as impressive. Plus they always put me up in a hotel out near some little theme/Roller coaster park. M I did get to tour harley davidson down there and was impressed, about 5 years ago. And I made it to a KC football game which was awesome. I haven't been back to Kansas for about 2.5 years. Edited by Techdiver 2014-01-08 9:47 AM |

I was grossed out by the international flight. They looked like a movie theater or stadium after a movie/game. All the food they hand out and packaging. There was crumbs/food and trash all over. I don't think there is a way around it though. It's not your fault! It's the people that get on to flight all sick and such then they recycle that air. Maybe if I could just crack a window or something at 35k feet? |
