Ultimately people are free to make their own choices...

Yep.

I suppose I liken it to wearing my aero helmet in training, I could but what's the point?

PennState - 2010-03-12 7:29 AM  My suit doesn't fit me anymore, so I do need one. Anyone have any opinions on the blue helix? Probably won't get it for a few months. Thanks.

Jorge has a helix.  I think Kristin does too.  Have heard nothing but great things.  I prefer sleeveless without a doubt, but Jorge has told me numerous times I'd love the full sleeve helix.  What does Bob Stocks wear?

Even though I wear ZOOT and love my Zenith, I have heard nothing but good things about the Helix. It's one of the most popular brand among the pro's.

Bob swim's nude.

I love the Helix. The upper body fit is fantastic and it's paper thin where it needs to be. You don't feel like you're wearing sleeves since the arms move so independently from the body. I can swim hours in it and not be uncomfortable.

Yeah I'm debating sleeveless as I have found a lot of shoulder constriction with my desoto. Which suits are the ones that have the advantage of letting you catch more water (full wetsuits)... ie they have something in the sleeve that let's you catch more water.

All of them, Fred. If you look at the under the forearm portion of a full sleeve suit, they have a different texture of neoprene designed to catch water during that portion of your stroke. heliz and Zenith both have very thin neoprene in the shoulders so range of motion isn't very retricted in the newer suits.

I draw the line at wearing the Aero Helmet while training.

Someone in this thread wore his aero helmet while taking me on a ride.  He needed it to keep up with me.

I wore mine for 1 ride when I first got it.  Nothing wrong with that.

I have a 2009 De Soto T1 First Wave full top, De Soto T1 Black pearl bibs and De Soto T1 speed vest.

I wore the De Soto T1 Black pearl bibs and De Soto T1 speed vest (Sleeveless) combination for LP, time 1:02.  It was fine, but I think I would have swum faster in the De Soto T1 First Wave full top.

I swam the De Soto T1 First Wave full top and De Soto T1 Black pearl bibs at Savageman.  My time was 27:51 and I felt so fresh in the swim I thought I really didn’t push hard enough.

The De Soto T1 First Wave full top springs my arms forward and I feel no shoulder constriction.  I believe Rick thinks highly of De Soto as well.

Just saying and De Soto will take full retunes 15 days or a complete refund.

Anyone heading to the Endurance Sport Expo this weekend in Oaks, PA (just outside of Philly)? I will be at the Philly Tri Club booth Saturday afternoon so stop by and say hello. All this talk of race wheels and new wetsuits has my wallet burning. I better leave it at home tomorrow or I may walk out of there with a lot of new gear!!

All this bike talk makes my head swim.  I'll stick with assuming tires (tyres) are just round half-tubes of rubber.

Folks talk about the race bottles rattling around...wouldn't someone dump the race-provided liquid in their aerobar-mounted water bottle and then chuck the bottle?

I've heard mixed reviews about getting splashed going over bumps, but geez...if you keep water b/n your aerobars and then a sports drink on your frame elsewhere this might fix the prob?

Not to distract too much from the bike talk, but can we digress one moment? I have a question about the swim:

I'm planning a trip up to LP in early June to do a training weekend (me and two other gals--no officially organized/paid support). We will be self-sufficient, which I'm totally cool with on the bike and the run. The swim, however, always poses a risk. So here’s the question:

Is there always a lifeguard on duty at Mirror Lake? If so, are we good to swim the LP course along the buoys? And if not, I’m thinking the best bet would be to rent a kayak or something and one of us follows along while the other two swim, in case of emergencies/distress/need for brief rest. I believe all of us will be wearing wetsuits, so that helps a bit, but I really want to be super careful out there on our own.

Thoughts? Warnings?

Like Fred said, you'll be fine. The buoy line is there in warmer months and I'm guessing there will be other folks training at the same time as well. I'm going over Memorial Day (brrrrr) and that seems to be the kick off of LP training weekends. I'm sure you'll be in good company!

Some people use a regular bottle cage mounted between the aero bars (with zip ties) instead of an aero bottle, so once they toss the bottle that fits snugly in there, the GE bottle isn't great as a replacement. If you're using an aero bottle, you just grab the bottle at the exchange, squeeze it in and toss it before the drop zone ends. That's what I do, and I drink GE only (no water) and eliminated the splashing by using a shower poof. Works beautifully, not a drop comes out!

You want to know the secret to a fast bike split?

Ride a lot, ride moderate, ride hard, don't ride too easy too much, ride alone, ride every long ride at IM effort and never give that up once you have it. If you do that, it won't matter one bit where the hell you but your frackin' water bottle.
