So today I couldn't get my swim done early but I figured I'd be done at work early enough to go to the gym and knock out a swim/run combo. Everything was going smoothly until I was almost home and my boss text me that he left his notebook in my car. So I figure I'll go home and grab my gym stuff then drop off his folder and go to the gym near the Albuquerque office. Again, the plan was running smoothly until I get in to the locker room and realize I've brought everything but my swim suit. Yell

Now, mind you, I missed my swim on Friday because the pool closed and didn't fit it in this weekend, in spite of my best efforts. So I said to my self "Self?", I said "yes?", I said "what would the Manatees do". Well of course skinny dipping was out of the questionLaughing so I started to get dressed to hit the dreadmill. I got my running shorts and sport bra on and thought, hey, wait, could I swim in this? So I thought about it for a few seconds, black shorts (the kind with the liner) and a black sport bra. Why not? So I grabbed my pool stuff and headed out there.

It worked pretty well, if you don't mind the feeling of wearing a parachute while you swim. Also, those shorts don't have a draw string so there were no pushes off the wall, just slow steady increases in speed. I knocked out my 2400 meters and went on about my day. I don't know if the cacoon men were staring at me as I walked to the locker room because of the wet clinging shorts or if that's just what they do.Embarassed Of course then my run was out because my running clothes were drenched but I thought you all would be proud of me for making the swim work.Laughing

THAT brought a tear to my eye...in a that-was-so-funny-and-inspiring kind of way. Way to adapt and overcome! Just think what the cocoon men would have done if you had taken the manatee way

Ha!

Still here. Still snowing. The little boys are off of school again tomorrow, the 4th day off. I have logged hours of snow shoveling and managed a couple runs, but my left knee is complaining. I am so thankful for the snow. Our farmers really needed it.

Hubby got the job. I didn't get mine, so we are staying in Kansas, which makes his pay incredible. He even gets shares of stock for signing on. Wow.

HOLY FROGGIN' STORM. We have a cyclone going on over here!

Trees are coming down everywhere. Hope I can get to the airport! Hope the plane can take off!

I remember when I was packing for Melbourne, it was at night, storm, electricity went out! Ha! Packed by emergency lights. Got soaked with the taxi driver (whose trunk was of course broken) getting all my stuff into the backseat.

The rain is literally coming in sideways.

I'm sorry about the SD college--their loss! However, SD is really expensive, and Kansas is not, and it sounds like Hubby made out like the champ he is! Congrats.

Quick update...

I had a great first swim lesson with Deziree.. when we got in the water, she was literally afraid to put her face in the water.  She said to me.. "ok, maybe I have more than a moderate fear of the water"

I told her, that's ok, you don't have to put your entire face in the water... let's start with your chin... then we moved to the lips (yes Manatee women, this was a swimming lesson!) ...  before you knew it, I had her doing natural breathing with the inhales out of the water, the exhales with her face in the water.

At first we were doing this just standing there in the 3 ft section of the pool.  Then I had her put her arms on the wall, a kickboard under her stomach, and with me supporting her a bit, she was doing the breathing flat on her stomach, perfectly balanced.  We removed the kick board (the first time she took it out, it shot up and hit me in the nose.. LOL) , and she continued, with me placing my hand on her stomach for support.  The cool part is that while we were getting her comfortable in the water, I was teaching her balance and the relationship between her head position and how it affected her hips.  She caught on so quickly, it was amazing.

Then we progressed to her entire head under water... just floating.. and from there we moved on to a pencil drill...me holding her hands in front.  The amazing part is that it all came together so fast, and she had really good balance with her hips in perfect position.

She texted me after the first lesson and said "thanks for the great lesson, it was actually a lot of fun once I got the hang of it.  Thanks for being so patient with me."  She booked another appointment for next Monday night!

I am so excited to continue working with her.  I will have her swimming laps in no time.

*********************

Update 2:

I was supposed to do 40 minutes on the trainer.  I started riding and only lasted 20 minutes because the outside of my left knee started hurting.  I will be icing it tonight.  I'm guessing it's just because I haven't been on the bike in a long time... it wasn't injured (to my knowledge) before.

Well Update one the swim lesson sounds awesome - if you trust the coach the rest is easy I find.

Update two - oh dear.  Ice - you know the drill.  Probably the running too we put strains on ourselves we aren't aware of until we try to do something else with that muscle.

I spent the afternoon at the Greek Embassy, DH and DD needed new passports as they are off to Greece in July.  And to be sure of no abduction shenanigans I have to go along to prove it's all above board.

We then went out for a very average lunch.  Now off to parent teacher interview.  This all HAS to be followed by an hour on the trainer - minimum.

Humidty here HUGE!  Like my hair.

I am so proud of him. He had a phone interview with the CEO and owner/founder of the company on Friday, and his new boss told him this afternoon when she made the offer that the CEO said, "I don't care what it costs, get him." So they made him an offer he couldn't say no to, nearly $20,000 more than he asked for. LOL

First I asked him if he was going to leave me, and when he said no, I asked him if I could quit my job. Funny. He also said no to that.

Sorry I missed all of the YaltyJo shenanigans live. Reading them was hilarious enough. I do not get good phone reception at work so I am forced to check in when I get home or if I leave work to run and get something.

I figured I would be nice to everyone I work with and got a swim workout in tonight. I am not sure of the distance but it felt good. I am getting a lot better at my flip turns and that is greatly improving my swim times. I did 8 100's, after swimming for an hours, at 1:35-1:50. I was happy with that.

If I can get a couple of runs in I still my do my race this weekend. More of a "jump-start" to get back into training. The expected temps are -7F to 16F, that may have an impact also.

I. Am. PIZZED!!!!!

The bike shop forked up the packing of my bike so badly I've had to unpack the whole thing, reassemble some parts, disassemble others, add important shyte like OH FOAM AND BUBBLE WRAP (which I gave them, and they just all put neatly at the bottom, folded) and not have stuff like skewers, bolts, and pedals just rattling around loose in the box!!!! WTF

God bless the Hobbit Maid--she's in today and has heard far-out swearing in four different languages.

Three hours to departure. Not packed yet!!!
