Ok, it's been an incredibly busy week for me. One online class wrapping up, 2 more starting, getting close to the end of the quarter at the high school, school accreditation visit, annual observation, multiple events to cover, including a double iron distance triathlon, and family coming in from the great white north for their spring break, and.... I've managed to get in a workout on all but 2 of the last 10 days!

Still trying to catch up on a weeks worth of posts. Holy cow does this forum move fast!

I forgot, today is my 38th birthday! Went out for deep dish Chicago style pizza with the family. The kitchen burnt the first pizza, so the manager comped our bill because we had to wait almost an hour to get our food. Well worth the wait and had plenty of time to catch up with the boys.

Happy Birthday to you Chris! I hope you enjoyed every moment of it!

Love the pic Dave! I need to find one to post- I'm always behind the camera instead of in front of it.

I had some spring oops training yesterday. Rode my mtn bike with trailer to pick up my daughter from pre-school (4.7 miles out and the teachers told me about a short cut so 3.7 miles back - almost all gravel path). I forgot I need to lock my rear shock out for the trailer- so my husband caught up with us running about a mile from home and pointed it out and how hot the trailer attach was from sitting on the rear wheel. Oops- big mechanical brake- I guess I'm not as out of shape as I was feeling, but it was a good strength workout ;-).

Today and tomorrow are ski days. Will try and get a swim in and contemplating a run trying a run walk interval to acclimate to 9000 ft. I've never done purposeful run walks- anyone have advice on how you choose intervals? I'd rather do this than run for 10 minutes, feel like puking and stop ;-)

Kate - You're a machine!

Messing with altitude makes finding the run walk balance a little harder. Why not try this - Start with 1 min of running and then walk for a minute. If that feels really easy - then add a minute to your running before walking for a minute again. Keep adding a minute until you hit the sweet spot. If you find yourself getting tired towards the end of your run, you can always go down the ladder.

If you get any nice views - send them our way. Colorado is beautiful!

Oh yeah I've been trying to stay ahead of the plank challenge in terms of number of seconds. Today I hit 1:45 (105 secs) so 120 is right around the corner.

Keep at it everyone! Love that the fire is burning at BDAS!

John - it sounds like you are finding a way of getting those workouts in - even if you are only doing core work! It's gonna be 50 on Monday here in MA! I don't know about you - but I'm already looking forward to getting out for a ride! Speak of - we should get together for a ride and a beer on of these days.

Plus - Your sox are killing it in spring training! Hopefully my Indians can get it together.

Happy Saturday! It's cold and rainy out here in MA today but I decided to go for a ride today knowing that it would make my ride on Monday, when it's supposed to be 50 degrees, even more enjoyable. I might be the only one - but I like riding in the rain. I feel like it challenges me to stay focused and makes me feel a little bit like Big DH (who founded this group - and is one of the toughest guys I know). The toughest part of the ride was avoiding pot holes. My god, it's like riding on the surface of the moon. Road crews can get out fast enough....

For the first time in a long while I felt genuinely happy to be riding. I even started to think about my upcoming race, which is a big improvement over the usual whining that goes on in my head. I feel like the warmer temps have started to relight that fire and I can only hope that it continues.

Have a good weekend everyone. We are still looking for a topic for the week. I know a couple people are struggling with plantar fasciitis - we could talk about that if no one has any other ideas.

way to think outside the beer box with the drink it method!! Love it!! :-)

Originally posted by cwpeters Got in my longest ride of the year this morning, 40 miles through NW Bradenton and Anna Maria Island. Only had 2 close calls, the first with a lady that pulled out directly in front of me from a side street with no one coming in either direction and the 2nd when a Marine Patrol truck decided not to wait for the car in front of him to make a left turn and tried to pass using the bike lane, which I was occupying at the time. I will be calling a supervisor on that one Monday morning. I know I've been posting a lot of pictures, but I had to share the following shots from my last swim at the Y. Apparently routine maintenance is no longer being practiced and we have now stooped to jury rigging equipment back together. Have a good weekend everyone.

Nice after a day dealing with some ahole parents of kids I coach, that gave me a good laugh!

great job on the ride! Love ana maria island. we stayed in bradenton a few years and rented a duplex on 4 st just south of Cortez a couple of years ago.

I am envious of you for all your great bike riding locations!(except for the crazy tourists...)

I did some track racing tonight. 3rd place in the scratch race and 1st in the elimination race. Wife and I are having a rum night tonight (release the Krakken!). I've been reading some Pindar lately, an ancient Greek poet who wrote poems in praise of Olympic victors. I came across one quote that I felt encapsulated the spirit of BDAS. I'm by no means a godly fellow, but I do enjoy the sentiment of this quote (maybe it would be better read as 'with the help of beer'):

"With the help of a god, one man can sharpen another who is born for excellence, and encourage him to tremendous achievement."

First group ride of the season today.  I came through it pretty well and am happy with the numbers.  I might spend some time sucking wheel in the B group, but I held my own, especially with some of the guys laying down huge numbers at the sprint points.  Spent 23 minutes (out of 150 total) in zone 6 power (>120% FTP).  Riding with the group is so much different and more fun than the solo triathlon efforts - though there are never any bad days on the bike.

Firebert, thanks for the heads up on the bluebook link. From the looks of the photos comparing the different years, it looks like it is a 2009..was it just years 08 and 10 that had the recall? Or was it 08-10? If that component list is correct, it looks like there is dura ace shifters on it, which is definitely a plus..getting a tri specific bike for $100 less than the entry level road bike I'm looking at is a hell of a deal..especially with extras included. I know it was kept up very well, he took the time to learn how to take care and maintain it, some cleaning and tuning might be the only thing needed if it's been sitting for a little while, but that shouldn't be too bad.

According to the CPSC, it's 08 and '10, with no mention of 2009. Here's their description of the S32s:
"the 2008 S32 was sold in gloss red. The 2010 S32 model was sold in gloss black"
It also says to contact Felt to see if your bike is affected, and that dealers will do the repair for free.

And seriously unless, like mentioned, you're needing to do a lot of group rides or anything, I'd have a really tough time passing it up for less than an entry level roadie, even 6 years old. My roadie is 9 years old, and 9 years ago's Ultegra stuff has held up very well and still shifts like butter. Proper maintenance is always key to that and the prior owner had the bike serviced at the LBS I bought it from.

I liked that so much - I added it to my BDAS chart on my log page. I did change it a bit, as per your suggestion"

Congrats on the great race last night. Next time we meet - we can drink beer and our wives can suck down some Krakken!

Definitely getting back into the swing of things. It's been a little slow, my spin class this am for example - I was easily 2 gears easier than I was a couple weeks back. And I didn't have anything left to run after, which I usually do.

The Sox offensive spark is back for sure. It helps that they spent a crap ton on bats. The pitching has been a surprise so far. It's only March of course. It's still always so great every year to see baseball again when you live up north. Seriously in Boston we celebrate 'Truck Day'. Sure you can celebrate Opening Day in April, or the start of Spring Training, or even Pitchers and Catchers. We start when the equipment truck leaves Fenway for FL....

Yes absolutely we need to get together for a ride and a beer!

Dave, Alan, Charles - you guys are kicking a$$ on the bikes out there! It's just another sign of springtime. LOVE IT!

Had a great couple chats with the wife about workout mojo (she lost hers), and scheduling, and all. We've got a pretty solid plan in place for March for the two of us including a rest day for each of us, and which days we can do singles and which we can do double workouts. And social engagements aside, we should still have time on weekends to do the errands and all.

Now all I have to convince her is to let me do one of the dus/tris around here in May. The Season Opener on Mother's Day, the Marlboro Lions Sprint the day before (it got moved apparently), or the Sudbury on May 17th. She's gotta let me do one of the three right?

Check-in: 6th workout for the week. I needed to do a long prep run for my 10 miler in two weeks. I ran 10.72 miles at a "I could talk if I needed to" pace. I ran the race last year as nothing more than prep for the half which is a month later. I'm really going to try to do that again. No need to try to kill myself for this one. I think I'll play around a little bit....do some LSD, do some race pace....etc.

Nothing much going on here except me walking around with a smile on my face as I watch the snow melt. My favorite running trail is still snowy, but the rainy 50 degree day on Saturday really helped clean some of it.

Great weekend with a beautiful 3h ride on Sat morning (if you look carefully can see the snow far in the mountains, closest I get to your weather) and today long run 1h 50´in a nearby park (in the picture, you can read in orange 'sonrie' with a letter in each tree, which in Spanish means 'smile', this is where the tough part starts).
Hope you enjoyed the weekend, have a great week ahead!

No running today, however I did get a heavy leg day in the gym. Hit a new PR for squats 275x6..not huge, but considering when I started lifting not even 3 months ago I could hardly squat 135. Also, jumped on the scale for the first time in about a week and a half..199.8lbs! Officially below the 200lb mark, which is a little over 30lbs since 12/29! Haven't been under 200lbs since my swimming days...I forsee my goal of 185lbs being very reachable, especially when I ramp up my training on all 3 disciplines.

Going to talk to the guy at work tonight about bringing the S32 to my LBS and have it inspected and see if it's gonna be a good fit for me.

If I've got anything left in my legs after work tonight, I may try and squeeze a light run in...

Cheers to the weekend!(well..my weekend)

Well, I've kept up with my training this week. I have my 18-miler tomorrow, and based on the advice I've gotten, and my own thinking, here's my plan:
1. Plan on it taking 4 hours with breaks for buying drinks and bathroom. (So I won't be frustrated with how long it takes).
2. Eat early, eat often. (And by eat I mean gels, and fig newtons)
3. I have a pretty fun route plan that includes part of the marathon course, a park that's too far to drive to but somehow close enough to run to, and the trails (which I hope are dry) in one of my regular parks.
4. Reward at the end! Brunch/ lunch at Pamela's, this diner that makes these delicious things that are halfway between a crepe and a pancake, soooo goooood.

That's more a of a reason to get the app. You can connect with other folks, see what they're drinking and start sampling things. I'd give recommendations but I'm up Canada, I'm not sure what makes it across the border. For lagers I really like Mill St. Organic.

I agree, I find such great brews on untappd by following my favorite breweries and friends with good taste. Also I love the Raven Special!!

What are yr thoughts on Dead Rise (the Flying Dog old bay beer?)

I've never had it, but am now intrigued!

My advice is drink two ipa's in one sitting...once you get past the overpowering hit of hops you can settle in and enjoy it.

Haha! And be on the floor after a third!
