Only 500m (that is the length of the swim at the tri) but I didn't drown and actually PR'd my time. Of course it was in a pool so that time is insignificant but I didn't have to be pulled off the bottom so that is a good thing.
I have to add that I had intentions of biking but it was 98 degrees at 7pm so I chose not to make myself sick and never want to bike again. I tend to do that. I don't bike and then my 1st trainer ride I'll go 3 hours and feel so sick after that I don't ever want to bike again. I didn't want that sick feeling my 1st time back on the bike so I will bike tonight. It is in my car and I am meeting some peeps for a shady, hilly ride tonight.
My rant of the day: I took my dog's in for their yearly check ups and shots. $408 for 2 dogs!!!! Nothing special just routine shots. I didn't even allow blood work. Seriously, frickin' expensive. No wonder people don't take their animals to the vets for well checks.
Great Job on the Swim!! PR first time back out is always a plus, means you forgot the bad habits you had I think. I hear you on the heat upper 90's here today so not sure if my ride will happen either. Suggestion for you on the bike tune up, if you have a smart phone there is an app called bike repair, it's very easy and walks you through how to do most basic maintenance with pictures and videos it is helpful to me at least.
I've been fighting the 'Meh' bug as well and haven't done any training in almost a week going to get a swim in today and maybe a bike... Hopefully. Stop it with the nice weather comments already. We are suffering flooding and the wettest June in recorded history here in the UK! (you got out at the right time Jo) I can attest to the rainy weather in the UK (and Ireland)! I'm still drying out from my vacation. Congrats to your daughter for taking the first step to a healthy life and good on you for being so involved |

We are suffering flooding and the wettest June in recorded history here in the UK! (you got out at the right time Jo) Right there with you Allen. We are in no danger of flooding at our house, but flood evacuations happening about 50km from here, with many evacuation notices closer than that. When I went to bed last night, it was raining so hard, I couldn't have heard my dog bark. Now, this is Vancouver, it rains all the time, but not like that, at the end of June. That's November weather... GREAT job on training with your daughter. The impact that doing this sport can have on those around us is quite amazing, no? Keep us posted on her (and your!) progress. |

Master 6595 Rio Rancho, NM | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Part 2 -- Full Pod Allen, that is so cool that you are getting involved to get your daughter active! I have a 23 year old son who is 6'4" and was well above 300 lbs (sorry I don't do metric (lazy Americans)). A few months ago he decided to start getting fit and watching what he ate. After a few months of running we bought him a hybrid bike and now he bikes or runs most every day. I don't train with him because our schedules and preferred bike routes are VERY different, but I do enjoy talking nutrition and fitness with him. He said he's down about 40 pounds! Well I did a bike/run this morning. I did the bike on a multi use path that I've only every used for running before. There was a bit of bike/run/walk traffic but I think overall it was a good ride and I was able to do the hard/easy intervals as listed on my plan. I rode there so I didn't have to worry about hills interfering with my "easy" parts. After the ride I was in for a 3 mile run. With the mercury rising it turned into a run/walk but I think it was still a successful run, especially after pushing it on the bike. Happy weekend all. YANTI DON'T PUSH YOURSELF TO HARD!!!!!!!!!! DFL is a good goal!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Elite 4435 | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Part 2 -- Full Pod ukweeble - 2012-06-23 3:39 AM Ok folks. Quick update as i haven't posted a lot recently. My training has been a little patchy due to some difficult family issues which have made me reluctant to spend too much time for myself. I had a talk with my 26 yr old daughter who has managed somehow to invite herself on holiday with us. She is significantly overweight (around 258lbs) and i have managed to talk her into getting moving. I have written her a modified programme based around the Couch potato to Sprint which she has enthusiastically received and i have promised to work with her every day to keep her on track and motivated. Consequently, i am using my training time to work with her. We have just completed the first week and i am proud of her committment so far. I will keep you informed of our progress and we have set a target of the Erewash Sprint Tri on 12 August which is the week before we go on holiday. It seems to be a great motivator and will help her her to maximise her weight loss right before we go away so she will look good by the pool. Goodness that is some serious poundage to shift. good for you setting an example and also helping and motivating her to improve her health which in turn will improve her life. Hey and thanks for saying I kick .... quite made my day!

Master 2770 Central Kansas | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Part 2 -- Full Pod Good luck to everyone racing, even to me! The wind was bad today, so the buoys they set up early this morning were blown all over, so they will be resetting them tomorrow morning. The high tomorrow is expected to be 105, so I need to get done quickly. I go into the water at 7.33 with the old lady group. I am a little nervous and have been having tri-nightmares. |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Part 2 -- Full Pod Holy cannoli. I cannot recall when it's been such a wild, weird, and wonderful weekend ... and you guys know what wild, weird, and wonderful in my book is like!!! KA-RAZY! Bali Tri really is a three-day all-day party, red carpet five stars with a tri in the middle ... far out. I may have been a bit mum and a lot in denial about my health the last few days, which has not been good. Clinic tomorrow. It's been bloody diarrhea, chills, and there was plenty of puking today during the race. I did not, however, push myself, as I was simply not capable of it. Slight fever tonight. I know. I'm totally insane. Not as insane as the woman who BIT the race director (one of the nicest guys ever) before the race and as he tried to push her off him, her husband came up and punched him in the face. Nasty broken-skin bloody bite and bruises around the jaw from the punch. He looks terrible! I think he's still in shock. I also think they should ban that couple from this race for life. So that was the START of the race and it got crazier from there on out ... stay tuned for the usual epic novella-plus race report with lots of graphics! |

That was a bitter pill to not swallow, I guess, since I got three outstanding offers and turned them all down. I did have a late-night dinner with a fourth, on the beach. And got some great cuddle and face time with another earlier. But yeah ... no piglets, and I'm in bed. At midnight, for goodness' sakes. Weak sauce. The post-race treat I posted a pic of earlier wanted to leave the post-race party early and go get, uh, dinner. Sent him off empty-handed. Candidate 2 (Jo should get his Speedo joke), turned down as well. Group shot, the bald guy next to me got some good kisses and cuddles but I also did not leave with him. Finally ate dinner with lovely fellow on the far right. Sigh. Well, it's not every day one gets to play with such a plethora of fine piglets. So I'm very happy (071.BudgieSmuggle (Small).jpg) (100_7329 (Small).JPG) Attachments ---------------- 071.BudgieSmuggle (Small).jpg (36KB - 2 downloads) 100_7329 (Small).JPG (61KB - 4 downloads) |

The RD (from Los Angeles side, I knew him already from when I lived there) is actually the leftmost guy in the photo--some of it's beard but most of it (on the right side especially) is bruising. RIDICULOUS. |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Part 2 -- Full Pod Oh yeah, and my last vision of the official race festivities was of the 16-24 y/o female age group winner (she is 17 and faaast) passed out on the lawn, drunk. This is not just a five-star resort; it's a five-diamond-plus resort, the swankiest in Bali. That was funny. Good thing she had folks there to take care of her ... she was mumbling about just wanting to take a nap, so she was still vaguely with it, not in immediate danger of alcohol poisoning. |

Elite 4435 | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Part 2 -- Full Pod Bali Tri sounds an absolute blast - never been to a race where the RD gets bitten before - what on earth had he allegedly done to deserve that! Your piglets including the RD are all adorable! I say to all my single girlfriends who are bemoaning the fact they can't find a decent man - to get themselves along to a swim squad or start hanging out at triathlons - that's where all the men are! There are plenty of single ones there, they have a fair amount of money coz it's an expensive sport! Yes they may be a little selfish with their time but if you turn into their support they will love you forever! My weekend - emotional again, my poor DH spends most of his time comforting me while I'm blubbing about who knows what! Still once done I feel better, very cleansing a good cry. On the upside I met with Coach Brian from the tri club. He didn't give me much specifics - kind of carry on doing what you're doing and to check in with him once a week with progress updates. Just nice to have his support. He had some advice though on nutrition and that kind of stuff, I enjoyed the meeting. Straightened one thing out, my HIM is in 21 weeks and that's what I should be focussing on. He said once that's done then we focus the next 19 weeks on the IM. So using Don Fink's Be Iron Fit book I've worked my schedule back from the HIM race he throws in 10 weeks out. I've looked at the Just to Finish program because it has realistic times for training. The Intermediate would be just doable, the competetive, impossible! I think for my first IM Just to Finish sounds just about right! Program starts today - 30min run at lunchtime, swim squad tonight which is 3km generally as we all know by now! Sniff sniff, still a bit teary! |
