tri808 - 2012-11-10 2:18 PM Got in a very easy 8.5 mile run.  Going to watch our pathetic UH football team get smashed by Boise.  Will ride long tomorrow.

How did swimming with the band go Jason?

Forgot the band at home...I'll try to use it tomorrow night, or at worst on Monday.

I thought of you today ... used the waistbelt of my Aquavee swim cords and wrapped it around my ankles, then swam stationary in a pool.

It was pretty fun but I haz some sore lats, delts, traps.

Finished up 24 hours of training this week. FUN!!!

I hope I don't die next week. Peak training: It includes a trip to Jakarta and a night out at a concert my sister's throwing, so I'd say my chances are about 50-50. I'll probably swap out a shorter run for dancing in sneakers. (Why, the Running Man, of course! Why do you ask?)

I was in Ottawa (Canada's capital) for the weekend.

They do a large Nov 11th memorial ceremony.

So I left home to time my run so I would arrive at 11 for the ceremony.

Lots of people. Stayed for a while. A CF18 did a fly by, and I was on my way.

Fred D - 2012-11-11 5:18 PM Question for the group?? I have been struggling through some piriformis issues that are causing a fair amount of pain. I truly believe they are bike fit related as they time out about a week after I got the new Shiv. It is the same side and same problem as I had in 2009. I used my local LBS for the fit, but I don't think the guy who fits me understands this issue and as a result I need to adjust fit. I have emailed David Greenfield at Elite bicycles and I think they have now closed the Philly shop, so I don't really have an easy place to go. I do have the coordinates from the Slice fit that worked quite well and am tempted to try them on the Shiv. What would you guys suggest? Help!

You had success, comfort and a visually good position on that bike. Why would you not use them ?

I would just remember your current coordinates, then put the old ones and try.

Hey Fred - if what you mean by "I have all the coordinates" is what I think you mean (you had a professional fitter set you up on the slice and they gave you every possible dimension and angle you might need to set it up again if you ever needed to) then I am not smart enough to know why that would not work if the set up required was within the tolerances of the Shiv. I am completely prepared to be schooled on it though.

. Yes I have the complete fit reference points (coordinates) from my most excellent fit in 2011 at Elite. He knew my piriformis issues and made the fit with that problem specifically in mind.

Then I would def give it a whirl - I have had good success moving mine from bike to bike several times, although once I did have to replace the stem. I have to think that the slice and the shiv were set up awfully close to each other already, so should be a piece of cake. Not sure what it would hurt to try, so long as you have the coordinates for the Shiv to revert back to.

Fred D - 2012-11-11 6:00 PM Marc, can I apply coordinates from the Slice to the Shiv? I probably can't easily get in with David for a long time as I think they are in transition of moving shops. I suspect I will try to put the new coordinates in and then put up a video here. Sound reasonable?

I do not know what form he gave you them, but if you know your seat height from BB, how far back the seat is from BB and the distances from the seat to pads and tips of aerobars, and drop from seat to pads, yes, you can.

Look at your ST profile. There are some fit coordinates there. They are transportable from bike to bike.

x2.  Depending on the form of the coordinates you've got, you might have to take differences in geometry into account, but that's nothing that a little mathematics won't resolve.  I would definitely give it a go.

Honestly Fred I know nothing about fit but it does seem you have nothing to lose by trying.  Mark your current spots and give it a whirl IMO

I agree with the others Fred, it seems like it's worth a shot to transfer the coordinates over.

I did my best to conform to the triathlete stereotype on my run today.  I wore two Garmins - my 305 and my wife's new Forerunner 10, had a GPS tracker in my pocket that my wife can track me on her iPhone and my had my compression sleeves on as well.

I am definitely exhausted, but not particularly sore or achy. We'll just have to see how the next few weeks go. I'm going to try to put in peak load in the next couple weeks, but honestly, if I can just put in 3 solid weeks (4 to IM) I think I'll be fine.

No one ever accused me of being sane (actually, one person, did, once, last week, which is why it is so memorable), but I'm being very, very careful with the big bump in volume.

I've had very good experiences/outcomes with aquajogging before, so I'll be transferring some of my run volume to that.

Fred D - 2012-11-12 6:32 AM Strong work Yanti! Will be an interesting lead up to your race. Thanks for the thoughts on the bike fit. I think we as a smart group should be able to work through this. I have all the 'ST' type coordinates from David and will apply them over the next few days. Then I will shoot a video. Currently icing the piriformis area and will have DTM on Wednesday. Thanks all.

I would be curious to see the before and after numbers of your fit, ie what did you adjust and in what direction.

I read about your piriformis and it seems typically saddle type and/or hip angle related.

Time to head out to the gym and then a short run with one of the dogs after.  I should probably just carry out the heater to the garage just in case.  Still pretty chilly here in Payson and I suspect my "gym" is freezing as well.

Normally in this temp it would be right about where I'd put tights on to run but since it is just a short run I think I will tough it out.  I've already been in long sleeves and gloves for a bit but still shorts.  What temperatures get you all into the pants for running?

I had a great weekend of training. I did my Saturday group ride (hard as always) and yesterday the hubby and I got up early to drive across town to the McDowell Mtns to pre ride a mountain bike course. We are doing a Duo relay there next month (dawn to dusk) and I wanted to make sure I could handle the course seeing as I am a novice mtn biker. Saw Bryan Dunn out there running the trails! They also had a bike demo in the park so we got to drool over fancy bikes. It's kind of become a Sunday tradition "date" for us, we usually do a ride then go out for coffee

We had a cold front move through here this weekend, it was really chilly out in the desert (below 40 at the start) but we warmed up quickly. Running and mtn biking are way better than road cycling in the cold!

We finished off the weekend by going to a movie (James Bond) and dinner with the family

This morning I am up doing nothing but drinking coffee. This is a weird time of year for me as I transition out of early am workouts. I kind of have a hard time with it because I am a morning person and I love to get up early and work out. Hubby just went out to meet friends to go mtn biking and I will swim later (day off work) and we have track practice for the whole family tonight.

Happy Veteran's Day!

20-25 for me.  But we rarely get there, and right now we're nowhere near that!

Gorgeous day here yesterday.  That was fortuitous for me, because it encouraged me to do a bike followed by short run instead of a long run.  My calf is thanking me for not trying to run 15 miles.  I think it is also nearly better.  I can barely feel it now.

Today I shall go to the pool.  (Gasp!)

An official Bryan sighting? Has this been corroborated  by reliable witnesses? I think If I ever saw Bryan out running I would IMMEDIATELY go jump on my bike and try to steal one of his KMs while he was not watching...

Interested to see how the fit looks Fred.  Good luck.

I've never had a real fit done myself.  Would be interesting.  I've just tweaked things here and there and feel fairly comfortable so haven't changed anything lately.  I hope I'm not leaving too much on the table.
