I have pretty much abandoned all thoughts of running for the rest of the week.  It is all about survival now.  lol  Then after Sunday I can go back to a more balanced plan.  As in mostly running and sometimes biking.  The dogs like that plan more

And thanks all...   Will be interesting if nothing else!

Yeah, sufferlandria.  Basically 9 days of Suffer videos, some are double sessions back to back.  Doing it through TrainerWorld.  Legs are feeling the effects of 5 hard days so far and it is about to get harder.  Undecided

I've come here to whine...LOL...my foot hurts sooo bad. I can't put weight on my foot at all because the whole area is so sore and swollen, the stitches are hurting like heck. I woke up this am without too much pain but as soon as I try to walk, the stitches pull. Ouch! OK, probably TMI but I wasn't expecting this at all. The good thing about having the surgery unexpectedly on Monday was that i didn't have time to dwell on it, however it wasn't the best idea because I had not planned on being off my feet for days. I took the day off work yesterday but have to go back today, not sure how I am going to manage....I work with Special needs kids and it's very hard on everyone when I'm out...the kids especially don't like change, so I'm going in for 4 hours.

OK, I'm done complaining! Back to S/B/R

Sorry. You are entitled to whine about that.

Agreed. Sorry you are in pain and this is hard.

"I'm a regular fountain of puke, especially lately.  I've puked due to effort alone, both in training and .."

HAHAHA.......

That got an outloud laugh from my desk. luckily my boss is a sports psychologist so he Should understand....

Last season I was too depleted at the end of the race to even puke. Years ago I could run hard enough in a race for that to happen. I had been having digestive probs last year..... and I think it contributed to my being so depleted. I have a handle on the digestive issue now.

A diaper accident up at my pool is a 200 dollar fine so and I guess a puke would be too?....I have always been careful not to push too hard.

I got a rescue dog that must have been owned by a runner. She understands the word. stays right with me during the run....and cant sleep if we miss a day. I see it as a heathy addiction.

I vote for the Adamo road race seat.

Stage 5 of ToS felt surprisingly good.  I did it at 97% and up until the last interval, I was thinking that I should have just left it at 100%.  The last interval was brutal, but I gutted it out and was pretty happy with my effort.

Also, per Ben's suggestion, I actually added a warm-up to this morning's ride, with a few short boosts in power and cadence.  I think it really helped me throughout the ride....either that, or it's a placebo effect that I'm quite okay with

Tomorrow looks ugly....Saturday looks downright brutal!  But, in a sick way, I'm actually looking forward to it.

Nice! I rarely just start out a video and go, and I'm not fitting in so much so frequently as all you are. 10-20 minutes before starting the video is normal for me, but use what works. Some do fine with none. I tend to be a little on the longer side. For me it's helped a lot in being able to hit workouts how I plan. Or at least get a better assessment before starting to tweak it some if needed.

I'm just kind of curious about the percentages. I looked at TrainerRoad website to get an idea.. but w/o much luck. What does that mean 100% 97%.. ?

One of my dogs can tell the difference between my cycle clothes and my running clothes.  If I have on cycle shorts she won't even lift her head but if I have on running shorts all hell breaks loose.  And I don't say a thing...

The intervals are set based on 100% of your FTP to begin with.  TR allows you to adjust your FTP up or down to achieve the level of intensity you want in the planned workout.

That is kind of the short answer.

Not many people are going to be doing the last couple of Sufferfest videos in that tour at 100% FTP.  I bet many would be at 90-95% or even less than that because of all the built up fatigue.

Unless of course they sandbagged their FTP.    I haven't been able to hold 100% at all but I started with fatigued legs.  They are not getting any fresher...

Thanks for letting me whine....I made it through a half day at school in flip flops (thank goodness I live in AZ) and it was sooo worth it. This is not tri related but Ill share anyways because it's these stories that remind me why I love my job so much and always puts things into perspective....before I took the kids outside I explained that I couldn't walk very well and that I had a sore foot...down on the playground a severely autistic student came up to me with a 3 foot stick he had found, he demonstrated to me how to use it as a walking stick and put it in my hand, kissed his fingers then touched my foot gently....this is a child who is said to lack compassion or empathy yet he did the most kind thing for me. I was so excited to share this with his mom today, and that is why I will hobble to work again tomorrow even if my foot hurts

Fred D - 2013-01-30 9:00 PM Hey quick update. I went for a really good bike fit today and we didn't move the saddle one bit. The advice that the people here, especially Marc and a few others was spot on for the saddle height and fore/aft. We shortened the stem and used some crank spacers to I've out the left knee a bit. Slight cleat adjustment. Rode the trainer tonight and felt much better (although my bike fitness sucks lol). Thanks!

Great to see that you're dialing it in!

Even with the freezing rain?  Nice.  Awesome job on the test.  Guess that Shane guy knows what he's doing eh?

I am avoiding the trainer this morning.  Might be a bit of whimpering coming out of me...

After the freezing rain came through, the temperature rose to +8 overnight and up to +11 during the day today so things are melting fast.

He definitely knows what he's doing, I'm miles ahead of where I was at this point last year.

Go ride!  You are deep into Sufferlandia now and the only way out of the country is to ride!  Tongue out

6.5 hours on the trainer today. I'm really only saying that to make Chris's taint hurt

Solid effort all through, big ring and extra tension after 2:00, long simulated climb 4:00-5:00.

"Short" long ride for me, but all quality and wanting to leave myself a little lean and hungry for IMNZ, so to speak.

Currently have a houseguest all the way from LA who's coughing like a dying seal. He may get moved to a hotel imminently.

Nice work on the power test, Arend!  Quite impressive!

Kim, did you knock out your ToS rides today?  I finished mine up this morning....definitely full of "suffering"!  I was almost certain that if I looked down at my legs while riding The Long Scream, that there might be actual flames!

The last two days of ToS, I've been adding a nice warm-up prior to the start of the videos (and then continuing it in the short warm-up interval)....I really think it's helped a lot.  My body just doesn't feel right jumping right into tough intervals without a good warm-up.  So, thanks again for the suggestion, Ben!

Just finished stage 6.  Did the whole thing at 90% but part way through the Long Scream there were two thoughts that were alternating through my head.  1) QUIT 2) you could just lower it.  But I stuck to 90%.  Didn't quite hit my targets through the whole thing but I tried the best I could.  Legs are feeling the effects for sure

Glad to help! And I've been curious what others think of The Long Scream, as it rarely comes up. I've used it often. It doesn't have the attacks or surges the other vids do, but there are zero breaks or change-ups in it. Just steadily increasing the power throughout.

I can see me doing The Long Scream again.  That type of ride is great for what we do.  I mean, I hated it today, but I can see this ride being very benefical

Niiiiiiccce!  Can't say I am too surprised though considering the efforts you have been putting in.  That is an awesome feeling after finishing a successful test.

The next couple weeks will be tough though as you work at that new number....the joys of testing .
