Expert 4921 Middle River, Maryland | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS)--OPEN Originally posted by nicole14e The running festival yesterday was really awesome! It was a long day for me. I went to the start even though I was running the third leg, so woke up around 5:45am. I biked there, which was the greatest decision ever. My team ran it in 3:58.33, and got 15th in the female relay out of 197 teams. Not too shabby! I felt great on my leg but have no idea what my times or pace was. I think it took me about 50 minutes to run 6.3 miles, and I felt good so I'm really happy with it. Accidentally asked for sour beer after the race, so I didn't love it but it could've been worse. Had football later, and then a halloween party so I'm pretty exhausted and sore today! I hope everyone else had a great weekend! The 3rd leg is the toughest with uphill finish and then wait for the bus, so well done. I watched like three hours of coverage - gotta race vicariously for now. |

Expert 4921 Middle River, Maryland | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS)--OPEN Decent weekend of training, about 2 hours' worth of everything on Saturday, then just an easy 50 minute walk on the TM while it poured outside yesterday. Winds were crazy last night -thought it was going to rip the siding off the house. Everybody done racing this year? |

Luckily I made it out on a bus pretty shortly after my leg, but sitting so quickly after running definitely hurt. There was a girl on the bus throwing up out the window too b/c we were stuck at an intersection for awhile and it was really hot on the bus with no airflow while sitting still. I felt terrible for her. The uphill finish was definitely not amazing but not nearly as bad as I expected it to be. |

2126 Baltimore, Maryland | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS)--OPEN I have been obnoxiously lazy lately. Need to get back into a routine this week. I haven't been to swim practice since before my tris and haven't run other than races in a few weeks. School is crushing me at the moment as well, but now that it's colder I need to get some workouts in in the evenings. Mike, I have the Celtic Solstice in December, but otherwise am pretty much done racing (and will likely do that one more for fun than to compete). |

Regular 1777 Auckland, North Island | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS)--OPEN Hi Guys, End of the month down here, so I thought I'd check in. 6 hours 40 minutes total for the month, all running. By far the biggest month since Oscar arrived. Most of the runs have been done before Mum and Baby wake up in the mornings, so that plan is working well at least. Looking forward to stepping it up a bit more over the next couple of months. It's a bit strange to be heading into summer with no Triathlons planned, but I am looking forward to having a real crack at improving my run, so when I do get back to multi sport mode I've made some real gains. |

Awesome read and a great training guide. It's geared towards pure runners, but I had my best success as an endurance athlete using it. Edited by jmhpsu93 2017-10-31 5:11 AM |

Member 3143 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS)--OPEN Another uneventful swim here today. 1350yds with only minimal pain in my foot. Next Tuesday's doctor appointment can't get here soon enough! I'm so tired of not being able to do anything without pain. My October statistics and workout table look pathetic--by far the worst month I've had in at least two years. At least I can say I'm injured. Those other months (pre-two years ago) were just reflective of laziness! I'm off to Egypt again next week for a month. I don't know how much I'll be into or able to run while there, which roughly means I have no idea how much I'll be able to work out while there, because there is no capacity for either swimming or biking. |

I think you'll be fine -even if you take some time off. You've built quite a long-term base that you'll easily be able to tap back into once you're back in the States. I've had months that were damn near zero, so don't worry! |

Expert 4921 Middle River, Maryland | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS)--OPEN Yesterday was 30' spin bike, 15' incline treadmill, 45' ST and PT. Today is 45' AM trainer (done, pathetically...), afternoon swim probably in the 1200 - 1500 range. |

2126 Baltimore, Maryland | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS)--OPEN Ugh, Gretchen that sucks. Woke up with a sore throat and head cold this morning. Yay. Still went to boot camp, but was a bit dizzy by the end. I think it was a combination of not working out much for the past few weeks and being sick and hungry. Trying to get to bed early tonight and run tomorrow to get back into a routine. Gotta get those cold weather clothes out |

2126 Baltimore, Maryland | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS)--OPEN Already signed up for the 2018 Baltimore Sprint Tri (my most recent one). It was $50 to sign up on 10/31 so I went for it. I also was invited to age group nationals for the Oly but am not sure if I'm going to go. It's in Cleveland, which is not the most exciting location, and it costs $187, which is pricey (plus having to pay for travel). I also have a wedding in France in either August or September, so need to wait for that date to commit to anything. |

Member 3143 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS)--OPEN Swim filled with 25 repeats today. It was actually kind of fun, I did 3x25, then 75, 5x25, then 75, 3x25...and so on. Never too much of anything to get sick of it. I'm on a three day workout streak, which is the highest number of days I've managed in a row all month! |

At least you can drive to Cleveland...eliminates a whole host of headaches traveling on a plane with your bike. |

Thanks, That might be some Christmas reading for me in the next couple of months. I've also just finished 80/20 running by Matt Fitzgerald, which I found interesting, and backed up a lot of what I've learned anecdotally. But the more info the better. At the moment tho, it's just about getting out there regularly and building the mileage back up. Got a lot of work to do before any plan will make much difference. |

Seriously, the other morning I woke up and realized the weight of the blanket pushing on my foot was causing pain. Stop trying to play through the pain! Although I admire your commitment, long term you're going to be much better off having a month or 2 of near zero workouts and getting healthy, than trying to push through it and making the injury worse. I know you already know this. Remember this game is about consistent work over years, not weeks. So take the break, and be better for it long term. |

A lot of these running plans (Daniels, Fitzgerald, Hidgon, etc...) have a lot of similar traits - run often, mostly slow, sometimes fast, don't run too far in one day. I just like how Daniels went into the "why" behind his plans. The first six weeks of the 24-week Daniels' plans are all base building anyway (like no speed work at all). so you're already doing great!! |

Take this knowing it's from a guy who is still getting back to 100% from back surgery... In the Fall of 2011 and early 2012, I was a total physical mess (back, knees, shoulder) from trying to keep it going somehow. I took like 3-4 months of really low volume and slowly built back up from there. I then set all of my running PRs in 2013/2014, so you CAN come back even better after a long layoff. |
