so for people who have done this before, what's the deal with Finisher Gear Tent the day after the race? Will it be a madhouse? Do people line up to get in? Do they have all the same stuff before the race but without the "finisher" on it?

Can't speak for the gear itself, but when I was up at like 6AM getting in line last year to sign up for the race, there were people already lining up to get finisher gear.

Ok,  you can swim on the inside of the bouys? Is that correct, and folks here are recommending that as a less traffic area. I assume you must be inside the last bouy to turn left?

thanks

Yes you can swim inside the buoys, but you must go around the turn buoys on the outside.

JPS0135 - 2009-10-30 9:51 AM I'm doing 2 full wardrobe changes.  My plan is jammers under the wetsuit, then in T1 change into a bike kit (I prefer bib shorts) and then change into running shorts at T2.  It adds time to my transitions, but I figure if I'm going to be spending close to 2/3rds of a day doing this thing, I should be as comfortable as I can get...

I was reading this reply and it is exactly what I was going to write, right down to preferring bibs. One additional thought: I wear UA Heat Gear compression shorts under running shorts. No chafing - ever.

jjcnbg - 2009-10-30 12:27 PM What is your "theme" music?

When I was a teen I always listened to Triumph - Never Surrender before cross country races. And other songs like:

  • I Can Survive
  • Hard Road
  • Movin' On
  • Lay It On The Line
  • Hold On
  • Fight The Good Fight
  • All The Way
  • Cool Down
  • Follow Your Heart

Triumph was jokingly referred to by radio DJ's as "the Great White Band of Hope".

Subject: Special Needs Bags?
I'm sure this has been covered a dozen times, but I'm interested in what people are putting in their special needs bags for IMFLMy plan:

Bike: Endurolytes & socks
Run: Socks, blister powder

Not a lot, but this is my first full IM and the two 70.3's didn't have them.

Happy 6 days to the race!

I just printed out the race guide and I'm starting to get really nervous. I have today and tomorrow left at work and then it's off to PCB! I'm ready to leave now!

How on Earth am I supposed to concentrate, much less sell anything???

See you all there!

AGGGHHHH...There's a green square on my calendar! It's close!!!

Seriously tho, since not being able to work out at all in a week, I have been thinking a lot about the race. If nothing else, I have gained a confidence that I didn't have before my injury. I KNOW I can finish this race. All the training is done. I am ready. I am focused. Not being able to workout has helped me reflect on all the workouts I have done and mentally, that puts me in a good place. If you're nervous about the race, focus on everything you've done. The long rides, the short rides, the runs you've loved, the runs you've hated. The swims when you've felt like a brick, the breakthru sessions in the pool. Every single workout has lead to YOUR RACE and you will get it done! CONFIDENCE!!

I'm putting a bunch of stuff in them that I've never needed before, but "just in case":
  • Pill-poppin'" Endurolytes, Advil, Pepcid AC & Tums
  • Gold Bond
  • extra fruit & grain bars/gels
  • tube/CO2 (bike)
  • Tiger Balm <-- need to find small containers to put a tiny amount in. this stuff is too expensive to lose a whole tin.
  • Extra "pasties" <-- I use 'spot' sized bandages over the nipples for running and riding. works like a charm; but the adhesive can get a little weak after long hours of sweating. I'll have extras in all bags.

Taking the tri bike out for a last ride before leaving for IMFL. I'm kind of nervous about riding outside this close to the race.

Anyone know where the timing mats will be on course - Im assuming mid point bike and at the run turnarounds. Looking at all the mats they've got at NYC Mary this year got me to thinking about ours. It would be nice if they had one right around mile 24...

Yup... I just finished a 25 miler. Stuck to well known dog-free roads. Traffic was fairly heavy though, and I think I spent nearly as much time looking backwards as forwards! Tuesday's ride will be a light spin on the trainer. Next time I ride on asphalt it will be in PCB!

I like the Rice Krispie treat idea on the bike!  I'll be throwing a Coke in bike SN bag, for just a few big swigs.  My run SN bag will have a little note from my son to help me with the last 13 miles.

Last year they had a timing mat on the bike around mile 75ish I think.  THere is a timing mat on the run at the 6.55 mile turn around the 1/2 mary point and at 19.75 (Same place as the 6.55 mark ) and then FINISH !!!!  In 2006 there were no splits on the bike and only  1/2 mary split on the run so who knows what they will do this year.

Back from my ride safe and sound. The bike rode beautifully. She is ready to go to Florida!

Socks-Diet Dr. Pepper is my secret weapon. I'm adding in a payday candy bar, Dots candy and lime flavored peanuts. Yes, I have trained with all of these! lol
