Rynamite - 2008-10-13 8:03 AM My coworker is a freak of nature. He ran a half-mary yesterday, his first, in 1:40:01. As of 2 weeks ago, the longest he had run was 8 miles. I talked to him this morning and he said "You shoulda ran with us. We weren't running that hard, just a group of us all staying together BSing. I just wanted to stay under 8 minute miles." He said he was a little sore yesterday, but feels good today, and is going for a run tonight.

I hate young guys like that.

He's 35.

Like I said since I'm 43.

ooooo TOPpage.

I heart the internet.  The short version:  I'm working on a journal article, but the journal I'm submitting to only accepts MS Word Docs, but I'm writing my paper in latex.  However, some one created a latex bib file that is compatible with the journal I want, so I can just generate my references exactly the way I want them in latex, then cut and paste into Word. Yay!

If you're wondering, my paper is going to be part of my thesis, which will be in latex, which is why I'm writing in latex in the first place.

Lots of people were breaking down at that point.  Glad we were of some assistance.

I saw a 3:00 pace bib guy back with the 3:50 people.  He was in some MASSIVE pain.

Really, though.  You looked great yesterday.  If you were in pain, you didn't show it.  Very proud of your finish.

Thanks man. 3:48:XX was my actual chip time. Yeah I was following a big group of 3:40s and thought sure they were way off. Until the end. I dropped back about mile 23, got dizzy at 23.5, walked the water stop and downed a couple glasses of gatorade and a couple waters and then started running again. That's when the 3:45 guy passed me. I was pizzed but couldn't keep up.

Good morning TAN.  Any of you guys in/near Plano, Tejas?  Would I like it there?

You thinking about moving?

a fabulous opportunity came across my path.  as i TAN i'm writing my list of questions for my potential future boss...

I think I could give some info on Plano.  I am going to be there on Wednesday, if you want something really specific.  What can I help you with?

So I did a little experiment yesterday and tried out my compression socks. Well, they aren't really socks i guess. More like calf warmers. They're so hideous, but I digress. Anyway, they totally work. IM SOLD. I'm going back to buy a pair of tights today at lunch. Look out, Ironman CDA.

Saw one guy totally lose it on that corner.  Horked up about a liter of liquid.  Obviously the body was in severe rejection of his choice of activity for the day.  But once he got rid of it all, and the med-tech came over, he got up and started walking.  Turned the corner, and I'm guessing finished.  Felt really bad for him.

Saw lots of folks cramp up too.  Saw it happen right in front of me too.  One guy's hammie knot up so much I could see the knot.  Nasty stuff.

Still not as bad as last year, though.

Yeah definitely not as bad as last year, but still suckassy. You guys picked a heckuva place to be! Sorry I didn't stop to chat. I was trying to catch the 3:40 or 3:45 pacer at that point. Not sure which, but the one just in front of me.

That is the second year we have been at that spot.  The other time was two years ago when it was freezing out.

But even then, I could tell that THAT was the hard spot.  THAT is the point, in the race, where the wheels can really come off and people need the most support.  They need that kind of pick me up.

You are about 2-3 miles from the end.  You have given it your all and the end seems so far away.  You have a big turn and a long, straight stretch in front of you before the killer Roosevelt Road hill.

I'm really glad I could have helped.  One of my friends, Julie, was 57th overall in the women.  She was shooting for a sub 3:00 and was 6 minutes off but still PR'd.  We hit her just like we hit you and she said it was a life saver.

So for all of you that go out to cheer, it does make a difference.

Way to go brother.  And if you are up to it, in a few weeks, there is a nice, easy, lazy 5k put on by Running Away Multisport.  If you are up for it, I'd love to race with you.
