Master 2621 Mechanicsburg, PA | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Yo Speedy, looks like your on track. My long workouts so far are: Swim 3000-4000 yds, Bike 40-50 miles and Run 10-14 miles. I am actually getting ready for the JerseyMan HIM on May 9th first. Then I will return to IM focus. As of now my 2009 totals are:
My Bike mileage is low due to some spin class not accounting for mileage. |

Master 3546 Millersville, MD | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Don't worry - I consider myself "on pace" and my current long run is just over an hour and long bike just over 2 hours. My plan is shooting for overall greater volume without a ton of extra long workouts (more frequent "shorter" workouts w/ less recovery time needed), until the very end where a few race rehearsals are thrown in. |

Extreme Veteran 384 Chatham. Ontario | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread I've been procrastinating to post this for a while now but if anyone is looking to join a training camp this is just another option. We've done it for the past 3 years and it is been a blast, lots of training, all abilities welcome, coaching and support included. Happy training! Ironman Lake Placid Camp June 12-14, 2009
Jorge BT had a bunch of people go up for a training camp in 07 and I remember you were there with a group. Your right it was a great weekend. That weekend works for me and a buddy of mine. Looking forward to it. |

Member 61 Watertown / Ft Drum | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread To clarify why I ask, it's because this if my first IM, and my first time actually trying to follow any program for any event (no programs for HIM's or marathons, just did them). So now I am GOING to finish this IM, I just don't know exactly in what time frame. To make me happy.....somewhere between 12-13 seems right, below 12 and I would be over joyed! |

New user 66 | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Your way ahead of me as far as distnace goes. I just started the BT 20 week program and Im nowhere near that. Longest run has been 10..Longest bike has been 30miles. Swim 2500yds. But Im sure it will pick up big time in the following weeks. But to my credit, I havent had any problems/soreness yet. |

Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Yesterday, I did this ride (mapped by my coach, who clearly had never ridden it...), which was most of Stage 7 of the ToC. Peak elevation was 4950, 8000 feet of climbing. Solo, and completely desolate. I saw maybe a handful of riders on the early climb, but from 50-80 was totally alone except when one of my teammates/coaches pulled alongside in his car at mile 62 (love that guy for that!!!). Please tell me that LP will be much, much easier!

Master 2621 Mechanicsburg, PA | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Very nice ride gailg! I think the LP course is easer than that ride profile. If you train on rides like that you should have no problem on the LP course. You’re going to be kicking my butt. Are you a USAC road racer too? |

New user 66 | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Week One finished!!! I know it doesnt seem like much compared to some of the posts above (especially the ones with charts and graphs) but I am happy to say I got through week one of BT IM plan with no problems and plenty of energy to spare. None of my friends are really into tri's so to them I should just go to the bar like everyone else on St Pats weekend. Got to talk to someone about it...Thanks to all who have posted on this and the IM thread. I'm learning a ton from everyone.

Extreme Veteran 596 Worcester, MA | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Hey All, I know I'm just sort of jumping in here, but em73 and I are going up to volunteer this year, with sights set on next year 2010. We are looking to see if anyone was looking to share a place - multi bedrooms only, or had any good recomendations for places that may still be available and not too far. We are signed-up to help out at the start AND the finish so we don't want to be too far as either we are going home to nap, or sucking it up for the day. Anyone have any thought, suggestions? Adam |

New user 66 | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Adam, I secured a place about 20 miles outside of LP and got an e-mail after from a lady saying this place was available http://www.docsinn.net/ Its in Saranac which I think is the other direction from the bike route so traffic shouldn't be too bad. But this was a month ago so Im not sure if its available. |

Bob 2194 Binghamton, NY | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Hope training is going well for everyone!! My coach, Kevin Crossman of T3 Coaching, is hosting a training weekend in May if anyone is interested. The cost is $175 and the itinerary is listed below. He has room for 15 athletes and has 8 commitments as of now. If you are interested in a coached weekend of training that includes meals and lodging give him an inspire or an e-mail. (He is t3coach1 on BT) Kevin Crossman’s T3 Coaching Tri Camp In Lake PlacidMay 16th & 17th, 2009 THIS CAMP IS OPEN TO ANYONE THAT IS SERIOUS ABOUT TRIATHLON. ATTENDEE’S WILL BE CHALLENGED PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY TOWARDS IMPROVING THEIR TRIATHLON SKILLS AND REACHING THEIR GOALS. COACH CROSSMAN WILL WORK WITH EACH ATHLETE PRIOR TO EACH TRAINING SESSION TO PROVIDE SPECIFIC GOALS FOR THEIR WORKOUT AND STRATEGIES TOWARDS IMPROVING THEIR OVERALL PERFORMANCE.
Tentative Itinerary: Saturday: May 16th 8am: Meet at Glens Falls YMCA Front Parking Lot. To save on costs (& emissions) I strongly encourage carpooling. We will supply two vehicles to carry 6-8 bikes. Then a couple other vehicles can be used to transport people. 8:30am: Leave Glens Falls YMCA, head directly to Lake Placid 10:00am: Arrive in Lake Placid 10-11am: Triathlon Specific Stretching, get bike & yourself ready, light snack. 11-5pm: Designated riding block… Any one is welcome to ride less, or do a brick, or just relax. I will ask that the first 15-20’ be a “group” ride just to provide a nice T3 Experience. Different people will be doing different distances and at different speeds. We will have two vehicles out on the course while you are riding, so they will meet you at your choice of destination and also carry extra drinks and food. 5:30pm: Go to camp for the night. 6pm: Dinner to be served 7-8:30pm: Training talk & story time – I strongly encourage you to come with questions 8:30-10:30pm: Optional Poker game for those interested or just a chance to sit and relax in a very peaceful environment. 10:30pm: Lights out Sunday May 17th: 6am: Wake-up 6-7:00am: Breakfast, coffee – Video on Swimming – watch film of freestyle stroke mechanics & discussion 7:00-7:30am: Stretching, foam rolling (You may bring your own stick or foam roller, but I will supply foam rollers to those who need one) 8:00am: Leave for Lake Placid (everything will be packed) 8:30am: Arrive in Lake Placid 8:45am: Warm-up with Running Drills 9-11am: Begin individual runs. There will be aide stations provided by the coaching staff, however, you still should carry some nutrition. You are encouraged to run your own distance. Pick-ups will be available at your convenience. This is a reserved two hour block. 11:30-12:30pm: Lunch, served by the staff. 12:30-3:00pm: Optional Bike Hill Climb challenge. 3:00-3:30pm: Stretch and Pack Vehicles 3:30-5:00pm: Leave Lake Placid, return to Glens Falls
Lodging: We are currently staying at a Camp near Whiteface Mountain: There are two bedrooms, 7 beds on a loft (Think the movie Annie J), and a couch. I will also be bringing a couple of cots. This is not a “Holiday Inn”, but more barracks style (again, think Boot Camp!). Space will be tight, but manageable. There is one bathroom, but lots of trees! Please note: This is a co-ed training camp. If anyone is more comfortable staying at a hotel very close there are a few choices: http://www.alpinecountrymotel.com There are many others too close bye if you “google”: Wilmington, NY Hotels
Directions to the camp: From the Intersection at Wilmington…Head north on 431…Bear Right onto 72 (a.k.a. Gillespie Rd. - very windy road)…then Turn RIGHT on ROSEMAN RD. Driveway to the camp is immediately on LEFT (Called the DARN BARN – is red). http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Wilmington&state=NY
Cost of Camp: $175 per person (this includes 3 meals, snacks, lodging, coaching, training sessions, partial transportation).
Registration: is limited to 15 individuals. Payment will be required prior to camp (May 1st). Prior to leaving from the Glens Falls YMCA, all participants will be required to sign a waiver. This is a first come – first serve camp. I expect this camp to fill, so please act quickly if interested.
Questions: Please email, [email protected]
Happy Training! Kevin

Extreme Veteran 981 Maryland | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread I've started a trend in my IM training now when I am totally focused on the upcoming IM, I set my desktop background on my computer to a picture that I can find, of a previous year's swim. Whatever best I can find that makes my heart skip a bit. It's quite motivating to see that every day. ANYWAY, I finally did that today for this year's race. And I see a ton of swimmers swimming right in the middle of the rectangle, and this must be 10 minutes into the swim. They are so far into the middle that some of them might be closer to the other side of the course than the first piece. My question is, what happens to these people when they get near the first turn? Do they force them to go around the first turn? I ask because I know IMFL has this trouble at the first turn. Tons of people cutting off the first turn by a large amount, and the volunteers don't do anything about it. I know we can't do anything but obey the rules ourselves, but it's really discouraging to see other people cut the course like that. Whatcha think?

Master 1572 PA | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Josh....So sorry. Keep us posted on the surgery. The 3 BTers doing LP that I have actually met in person are not doing so hot injury wise. Just want to say my thoughts are with all 3 of you. I am injury free and have been waffling over doing this race for quite some time. Needless to say, you three were pretty big perks. 1. PennState--still hopeful for you in every way! 2. Newleaf-- not this year. But you'll be back. 3. JoshKaptur--would love for you if this recovery is fast and you can still pull it off. Hang in there guys! |

How is your training going? Do you have your hotel or logging booked? Training--exactly where I want it to be. Hotel--yep. Booked at Art Devlin's this morning. There was a cancellation. So, public thanks to Fred (PennState) awhile back for the suggestion to consider waiting to book until closer b/c of cancellations. So, I'll be there! Whether it's to race or to hang out is my secret. |
