Things have been quiet here for awhile.  Everyone should be getting into some tough training.  We only have 8 weeks, Yikes!

Did a HIM on Saturday and worked on pacing and have a good idea on how I want to attempt things in November.  Hope everyone is doing well and staying free of any injuries.

Yeah I have pretty severe plantar fasciitis and haven't run (with the exception of the Chicago Tri and last week a 5-miler) for the past three weeks. I'm thinking my 4:30 marathon goal is but a dream. It was really too ambitious anyway. I'm going to set more realistic goals as the race approacheth. I am doing the Redman HIM this weekend in Oklahoma City and then a century ride followed by a 2-hour run a week after that. I volunteered at IMWI this past weekend and am inspired. I should say confident. I am starting to think I can actually do this thing, knock on wood. I just hope not to blow up. The swim start is daunting, to say the least, with all the bodies thrashing about. I'm not the strongest swimmer and tend to freak out a little every freakin' time, even after 20 or so triathlons. So getting pummeled over and over, while nothing new, sucks if it lasts the whole 2.4 miles. Sheesh I'm nervous just thinking about it.

I have been fighting pirifomis syndrome (pain in the a$$ literally) and have been pretty much unable to ride my bike.  It sucks.  Running has been fine but I have some pretty serious catching up to do on the bike.  Right around mile 80 I am going to be in pretty good pain but hey, what's a little pain! : )

I recently registered for the race.  A little late, but now I'm here.  I looked at the website today and checked out the course online.  It looks like a fairly decent distance between the swim exit and T1.  Any word on what type of surface we will be running on?  The course looks great!  I need to get my training back up and be ready.

I was in Wilmington last weekend for some on the course training.  I ran laps around the Greenfield Park.  Beautiful.  Very flat and georgous views - not that any of us will be able to focus come that part of the race.  Just thought I would pass along the good vibes. Lovely part of the race course and I see where there can be lots of spectator support.  Should be a mental high part of the run - at least on the first lap.

Stay strong everyone. Only 7 weeks to go!!!!!

I am new this website and B2B will be my first full Iron race, training is comming along I hit a Half Iron this past saturday and an international the next day, completed and set PR's on both so that has really boosted my confidence and doing a full. I still have alot of mileage to put in running and riding so if anyone lives around Stafford, VA and wants to get together for some longer rides or runs let me know. I usually ride around 17 MPH on a rolling course and run between 9-10 minute miles on runs 8 MI or longer. Look forward to seeing you all at the race good luck with training everyone!

Let's keep this thread going!  Hey, can you all let me know when you get any updates from the RD- apparently my email is blocking them as I've updated and rechecked my profile and I still don't seem to be getting them.
Anyway- how's everyone's training going?  I had another great 2.4 mile POOL swim last night.  I am scheduled for a 102 mile ride saturday, my third century in the last month or so.
Not much longer.

Ugh, 2.4 miles in the pool sounds utterly boring! Swimming is my least favorite thing.

I have not received any emails in a long time, since the one that says to sign up for all the ferrys and shuttles and awards banquet.

I had some severe neck pain issues as I ramped my long bike up to 100 miles. I worked thru it with a little help from a chiropractor, KT Tape and sitting up out of my bars every hour for a few minutes to work out the kinks. Also, icing that spot after every long ride helps too.

Been doing ice baths after my long runs. It really works to reduce recovery time.

I didn't get that one! Crap.

Anyway I did the Redman Half last weekend and busted out a 5:30:04, a PR by nearly 30 minutes, so it seems training really can make you faster. Hmph, whooda thunk? Thursday I'm doing a 2.4-mile OWS in what's sure to be cold-azz Lake Michigan. I'm doing a century followed by a 2-hour run this weekend, PF be damned. I have pretty much scrapped my training program because I can't run much and am just doing what I can when I can. The good news is the foot felt really good at Redman, so much so I pulled a 1:45:36 on the run, an 8:04 average. Not sure where that came from but let's hope the legs feel that good on Nov. 7!!!

Wow, 1:45 is a great HIM run split!!!

Here's the info from the last newsletter. Hopefully, it's not too late:

A 3 hour tour of downtown Wilmington via the Henrietta Riverboat. The Full Awards Cruise is for full or half athletes, their friends and family members. Cost is $15 for each pre-registered passenger ($20 at packet pick-up if space is still available). Space is limited to the first 400 reservations.

If you will have a ride to T1, do you need to take the bus? Just wondering?

Anyone else think this sounds like a logistical nightmare for friends that want to see you finish the swim, then finish the bike, then finish the race.  I think I'd rather do the 140.6 miles than try to get al around town for the different spots.  Maybe my 17+ hour training week is making me cranky!?
anyone else...

Your posey will have a few hours to make it from the swim finish to the bike finish and they are only a few miles a part.

I think the hard thing will be to see the start, then move to see the swim finish. Which I am sure all family members will want to see their person(s) exit the water. Other than that, it should be decently smooth to watch T2, and parts of the run.

Cranky week? I have been cranky everyday for a month. Try being my wife.

Sounds like solid training though! Keep it up.

Yeah, I get that they will have a few hours.... but my POSSE consists of one friend who is making the drive from Michigan with me and we are getting in on Thursday evening, so not much time for planning the logistics.  anywho...

I'm pretty sure last year they did not let anyone but athletes to the swim start. So, no problem there!

David: you signed up AFTER that email was sent. The date of that email was Aug 20th.

Coldfire: I don't think you need to worry about the bus if you have a ride. Since it's free, why not make a reservatoin anyway, just in case your car breaks down and your wife can't drive you!?

Last year there were some people at the swim start (including my wife). It was very surreal start with the sunrise on the beach, national anthem, pre-race energy, etc.

But you couldn't drive to the swim start and park. The athletes take a trolley from t1. My wife rode her bike from the hotel we were staying at on the beach and met me there. She then followed the swim packed down the river along the road that parallels the river and was able to see the swim until we made the turn at the wiggly man boat. She got some pretty good video of the swim pack also. Once we made the left at the wiggly man she rode on to t1 to watch us come out of the water.

Hey, thanks, that's awesome. WTF is up with that speedboat going by at a gazillion miles per hour. That doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy feeling!

there was no warm fuzzies to be had in the swim. Or for the first 65 miles of the bike ... nothing but frigid painful cold. Actually, compared to the first 3 hours of the bike, the water was warm ... but not fuzzy. Hoping for warmer temps this year!

I sent off an e mail requesting a spot on the bus. Are they supposed to get back to you, or do you just assume everything is ok?
