There were changing tents last year.  Transition is the same as a sprint only a lot bigger.  The transition area is literally the size of a football field.  You have to check your bike on the Sat. before the race.  You can leave everything you need for transition on Sat. but if it rains it will get wet.  You can access transition the morning of the race up to the start of the race.  Don't forget your pump!  Your bike has been outside all night and the tires may leak down.

Just an FYI, I had e-mailed the RD with some questions about transitions and the bottle exchange, and she mentioned there are not changing tents.

And yes, transitions are just like a sprint, where you have your own area that you will go back to for each transition. Nothing (i.e. - your bike) is brought to you or taken from you, like I've heard some other HIM/IM races might do.

As far as bottle exchanges, your are given a retail bottle of sports drink or water, which apparently has a sports top that you can use to fill up your own bottles or just toss your bottles and drink directly from the retail bottles.

I dont remember any changing tents. Transition is just like any sprint. The racks were pretty tight last year and you were assigned a spot. No getting there early to snag an out side spot. The water and gatorade bottles are just bottles like you would buy at a gas station. You just refill your bottle and chuck it. Sounds like it is almost sold out. It will be nice to have grass in transition this year. Hope everyone training is going well.

This is my first HIM.  Does anyone have a good baseline on the nutrition during the race knowing the course and typical weather for Augusta.  I have a pretty good account of my sweat rate in varying teperatures per hour and am going to shoot for about 75-80% replenishment of fluid.  Right now I am going to go with about 200- 250 calories an hour with (hopefully) about 40 - 60 grams of carbs.  I weight 230.  Can anyone tell me if I am way off base or anywhere close?  Any help or resource would be appreciated.  I am looking forward to the race and have heard great things about the people in it from an encouragement standpoint.  I will have a BT tri top and shorts so give me a push when you go by.  LOL.
Thanks
Tom

I'm there with ya man.  IMKY then right back at it to get ready for Augusta.  Hope Im sporting my M Dot by then.  Did Augusta last year and no chance I was gonna pass on it even though it was so close to IMKY.  Augusta was a great experience last year.  This year I expect my time to be off by 30M to 1 h due to the recovery lapse.  Whatever, I'm doing it and plan to have fun and see everyone flash a smile at the finish!

Did a 2.4 mile swim this week and a 72 mile bike.  I have been backing off the running the last two weeks because my knee was hurting after a 13 mile run two Fridays ago.  I ran on it two times this past week 3.5 miles each time and it feels much better.  I am going to do three runs this week of which one will be an hour and the other two about 45 mins and see how it feels.   The running is the only weak part of the training as of now.  My plan ramps up on hours over the next couple of weeks.

How was your training?

I raced it last year and there was a single tent located up at the front of transition near the table that held the water.

If it's the same "Snake Lady" I remember from high school (you only had to be 18 back then) she must be ancient by now.

I'm not racing but was going to be in town for my 30th high school class reunion on Sept 4th. If a group is getting together to ride the course that weekend I would love to join in. My wife did the race last year and had a great time.

Check out enduranceconcepts.com for their planned swim/run on Sunday the 22nd from the boathouse at 7:30 am. Coach Jim Christian may be coordinating that as he is out of Augusta. Should be well run if its done like last year.

FWIW me and tri-ghost and perhaps some others are only doing the swim. Then we are going off to do a drop bike ride@high18s-19mph of the Augusta bike course TWICE stopping at the boathouse after the first loop to refill bottles etc. Anyone who thinks they can hang is more than welcome.

Only 40 days left -which brings up the question:

How many actual training days do YOU have left?

I have 8 off days and 1 race left so that equates to 31 training days for me-WHOA

If the water is wetsuit legal, I would wear one. It is not going to be very cold so I am planning on bringing a sleeveless one. I am broad shouldered, but depending on my wieght it can feel tight in the shoulders. Thus the sleeveless decision. I think there will be wet suit strippers there so, as long as the water is not too warm, it is a no brainer.

As to brand that is a very personal thing. I have a blue seventy full-sleeve and an Xterra sleeveless.

wetsuit is a big advantage. so yes it is worth it. what to buy is up to you. fit, budget and how often you will use it all play into it. You can buy a sleeveless suit for $100. renting s also an option. then if you decide to buy it they take the rental fee off the price of the suit. I wear a QR ultrajon. It worked great for me last year. i race in south fla so the very few wetsuit legal races i do are just legal. im also have broad shoulders.

I got the X-Terra sleevless for $99.00  awesome deal, good quality and comfortable. Have only used it for one race, St. Anthony's, and will mos defenitively use it on the Savannah river!!! Go for it, won't regret it.

I scored a 2xu sleeveless wetsuit on bonktown on the cheap ($100). I also use a full sleeved Orca S1 ($130ish), Like everyone else said, it will be personal pref on fit of the suit then cost....you dont want a suit that chokes you the whole time! renting is a good option if you dont plan to do many cold races.
