Simply bad-arsed episode!

I'll be the first to admit I was dead wrong about Sophia.

Herschel knew it was Sophia.  It'll take a lot of restraint by her mom or Daryl from putting a bullet in HIS head.  Daryl almost died looking for her.

Shane's slowly and steadily going Rambo-insane.  But in that world, it may not be such a bad thing.  He was right to demonstrate that 4 bullets in the chest of almost any animal would put it down.  But not a walker.  It's not "alive" in any normal sense.

For as much as Shane says that Rick doesn't have what it takes to survive, it was Rick who didn't hesitate to do what needed to be done to "save" Sophia.  He has what it takes.

Sophia's turning and death is probably going to hit hardest on Carl.  He looked liked his entire reason for being was turned upside down.

Simply a bad-arsed episode!  Can't wait for February!

I agree with all your points. Sucks we have to wait so long.

Hello

I finally got to watch the final show for the fall on TIVO.  Very good and it answered a few questions.

I think its time to move on and here are my ideas

Go into town and start cleaning out the Walkers by sniping from a distance or  draw the walkers into an ambush set them fire or blown them up.

Once the town is cleared, set-up security and start trying to contact other living people.

Yeah...  But...

In the tradition of zombie-defense, there's a couple of practical problems...

Go into town and start cleaning out the Walkers by sniping from a distance...
Limited ammunition.  It takes a head-shot to take down a walker.  What if 500 start to converge?

...or draw the walkers into an ambush set them fire or blown them up.
The problem with fire and walkers is that they can continue to walk while on fire and you risk setting many buildings or the entire area ablaze.

Once the town is cleared, set-up security and start trying to contact other living people.
"Security" can't just be someone with a rifle (see the first point above).  The best thing would be a wall that walkers couldn't get through.  Fencing isn't enough.  50+ walkers can simply push forward and take down a chain-link fence even as you're shooting them.  And an unclimable wall would be a TON of work to try and build.  It would take months with a handful of people.  And if during that time 500 walkers converged onthe area?

BTW - The problem with thinking that a military base is safe is that a military base relies on guards with guns.  Simple chain-link fences are the typical domestic physical border protection.  It's a guard with an M50 pointed at you that deters humans.  But zombies just march on through the fence and while 75% may get blown away in the process, enough will get in and start biting so as to quickly overrun the base.  There are 5.5 million people in the metro-Atlanta area.  No military base can hold back even 250,000 zombies converging.

The farm is nice, but indefensible if 500 walkers smell them out and come out of the woods.  You want a zombie-proof, safe house?

Finally watched the latest episode.  Loved loved LOVED it.  The actor playing Shane is doing an absolutely amazing job with him.  And I like that Glenn finally grew a little backbone and yelled at the farmer daughter, lol.

The string of squirrels really sets it apart from other choices.

Or maybe find an old prison, clear it out and live there... :p

Am I the only one who has read the book? Watching the show is both rewarding and intensely irritating, as some things stay the same and other major plot things are way different (Shane, being the most obvious).

Both are good though!

Roughly halfway. I think Compendium 1 is the first 48 books. They're getting established at the prison.

Finally got caught up (I know, I know) and wow.  As soon as all of the walker in the barn were dead and you heard the last one moaning I was blown away.  Knew it was Sophia at that point.

I think I even said "Holy crap" out loud (and I was by myself).  It was one of those scenes where you are 100% behind Shane and the group for gunning down the walkers and then you question your decision just as they were all doing, after a member of "your" family becomes a walker.

And of course it had to be Rick to put her down.  He felt responsible from day one.  Great episode.  I hope they can keep the rest this exciting (it got a bit dull there in the middle of the season).

Hmmm, but AMC  has a marathon of the first season on tonight and has a marathon of the first half of the second season on tomorrow afternoon leading up to the new episode.   The weekend is shaping up nicely.

Thinking about adding a baseball bat to my zombie Apocalypse survival bag.    But the question is, do I go with the traditional Louisville slugger wood or go for  the metal type bats.

Wood feels better in the hands  but, like with some foul balls, the bat can break at a most inopportune moment.    Metal won't do that.

True story:

I'm a real estate appraiser and I was going through a house doing my thing a couple weeks ago. When the homeowner and I got to one of the bedrooms he called out, "Walker, the appraiser is going to need to take a picture of your room." My reaction was, "He's got a walker in there?!?!" *sigh* too much Walking Dead for this guy.
