Bripod - 2012-02-12 11:03 AM True story: I'm a real estate appraiser and I was going through a house doing my thing a couple weeks ago. When the homeowner and I got to one of the bedrooms he called out, "Walker, the appraiser is going to need to take a picture of your room." My reaction was, "He's got a walker in there?!?!" *sigh* too much Walking Dead for this guy.

Thats awsome. At least you didn't beat them in the head with a shovel or the first object you could find.Wink

If you guys like Walking Dead then you need to check out Adrian's Undead Diary, a blog written by a guy surviving in a zombie apocalypse.  Very good read, I enjoy it much more than Walking Dead.  I've been following for about 6 months, the author updates every couple of days.  Good stuff.

Just rebumping this up for anyone on a zombie withdrawl.

So there's a theory out there that Jenner (the CDC guy) whispered to Rick that they're all already infected, and all they have to do is die in order to come back as a walker. That would explain why *SPOILER ALERT* Rick not only blasted tubby in the chest but also in the head. Any thoughts?

I don't know if that was mentioned at the CDC but thats what I thought after Rick gave fatty the head shot. He shot the guy behind the bar only once though in the chest so his brain is still intact. Next weeks bar shootout looks like it gonna be good.

I always thought he was whispering that his wife was pregnant to him - since he did do all that bloodwork. Not to mention they already knew that if you died, even without getting bitten, you would come back - think of the guy in the forest campsite they found who hung himself. Did not look like he was bitten, if I remember right, but he certainly came back. Probably just a thing where being bitten activates the infection of some such.

anyway I enjoyed last night episode a lot thought there are quite a large number of possible or early story lines to follow up with at this point. Having not read the written material yet I am excited to see where they take it. Also, Glenn is awesome.

I don't think so - when Rick was doing one of his monologues into the walkie-talkie he said "Jenner said.... nevermind what Jenner said." and if I remember correctly it was within the context of losing hope, as if him saying it would be a reason to lose hope... maybe I'm wrong.

Not to mention they already knew that if you died, even without getting bitten, you would come back - think of the guy in the forest campsite they found who hung himself. Did not look like he was bitten, if I remember right, but he certainly came back.

Pretty sure that guy's feet and lower legs had been pretty much decimated by walkers. We know (or at least I think we can assume) that walkers don't eat other walkers, so I think it's a safe assumption that he was bitten while alive.

Just looked through the Wikipedia article and it reads, "The two then come upon a zombie hanging from a tree where he had attempted to kill himself before transformation and ended up having his legs eaten."

Also, Glenn is awesome.

I've got it! He whispered, "Everyone's infected already, so destroy the brain or they're coming back as walkers. Also, your wife's pregnant, and since the baby will be born post-apocalypse, you can use its blood to reverse the infection and save everybody."

eh? eh?

He shot the bad guy from True Blood in the head too.  I'd have to find a clip, but there was head blood on the wall behind the bar.

My thought was that he shot the big guy twice in the chest, but because there was so much chest, once in the head to make sure.

I'm beginning to have a real problem with how they don't take any precautions handling the dead bodies.  I mean even modern day EMTs wear gloves to handle the smallest of scrapes.  These things are oozing blood and guts and they are just picking them up with their hands (then probably touching their eyes and noses).

I'd be looking for a HazMat suit.  At least wearing gloves and face protection.

As for the "if you die you come back as a walker" theory, I don't buy it.  Look at all the dead bodies in the cars on the interstate.  If they died of natural causes and reanimated, they would have left the car.  None of them we saw had brain injuries that would have killed them in the cars where they sat either.  Also remember the bodies Shane and the girl found in the subdivision (in the basement).

ETA: If you came back as a walker no matter if you died naturally or if you got bit then theoretically every person in the world would be a walker eventually (except those killed by the non-infected).  Based on what we've seen so far there are not enough people around for this to be the case.  In Atlanta alone there would be millions of walkers in the streets.

I am pretty sure the walker hanging in the tree was bitten before he hung himself. I am trying to remember that poem/sign he wrote and put on the tree.  I think it went something like, "Got bit. Fever hit. World gone to sh!%, Might as well quit."  So he was bitten and "killed himself" by hanging then turned.  Were his legs eaten by other walkers or by forest animals?

When the apocalypse comes, wouldn't the vast majority of deaths be from bites anyway? Wouldn't those who died by other means be a scant minority, whether they resuscitate or not?

OK so the hanging guy probably was bitten (I did not rewatch all the episodes this weekend so could not remember). Either way this is going to be an interesting season. Wonder where they will head now that they think Fort Benning is destroyed. I don't think they will stay at the Farm but maybe head to Nebraska?

For the Atlanta Zombies thing - remember the military did drop napalm into the streets, lots and lots of napalm. So presumably, even if there were millions of them, a lot could have been burned to dead undeath. Maybe the infection went Airborn and is dormant in everyone? Who knows.

I think it's unlikely. Viruses that are transmissible as fomites do not generally convert to airborne. OTOH, depending on how hardy the vector is, it could survive for quite a while on surfaces - making hygiene and gloving up when handling the undead pretty critical.

I just read Zomblog that had an interesting conceptual twist - are there people who are immune? There was at least person in the book who had scars from bites and no signs of turning (Of course, he died later when he got overrun by walkers who basically tore him apart - no coming back from that one!)

I agree that it seems odd that they handle the dead zombies with little care for germs/infection...Heck, I wouldn't want to sit next to that load of 'em in the back of that pick up - never know if one would suddenly try chomping on my leg! LOL

As for that baby on the way... you may be on to something - it would be A) either the new beginning whereby holding the fresh blood to combat the 'disease'. OR--->could be born a Zombie thus signaling the total destruction of mankind. Woa!

Yuck! I would hope that if the baby were dead/undead in the womb that mom's body would just reject it. Gross!

I finally saw it (in the UK I have to watch it at work on Amazon since we have a US ISP) and that was an intense scene in the bar! I didn't see previews for next week but I'll watch them on AMC now! It does make you wonder whether humans would band together or fight each other if any sort of apocalypse happened. I guess it would depend on the humans.

I was thinking about that too. If two groups of people were fighting and a walker horde came upon both of them what would they do? Would they ban together or would they be fighting both forces?

"The Road" gives another interesting spin on the same idea.  it's not zombies, but still post apocalyptic world, and that one they choose to start eating each other.

I could see a little of both happening.  some would resort to taking advantage of other people and others would really be looking to form communities to help with protection.

Safety in numbers is my philosophy. Then again if you're in a small agile group you can hit and run, or just run if necessary, quickly and not have to wait for the weakest link. The idea I think would be to have a base like the farm to fall back to and send out small parties made up of the fast and strong to hunt and gather if necessary while leaving the weaker ones back to protect the home base.

You really should read Adrian's Diaries.

The battle becomes one fought on several fronts, not only against the dead but also against other survivors for the allocation of scarce resources. There are also trust issues, and likely possibilities of a forceful dictatorship instituting things like slavery and selective allocation of those resources. Not every survivor is going to have "the greater good" at the forefront of his agenda.
