Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My biggest problem is repetition. When I'm trying to eat well, I end up eating the same thing every day for breakfast, snack, lunch and afternoon snack. The only variation is my dinner. Then comes the day where I just don't want that yogurt and koshi cereal...hello hamburger...or pizza. I really need to learn some variation in my eating habits. Any suggestions? Day 2 of waking up and getting my workout done before work! 1000 in the pool at lunch today. |

The biggest news in my quest is that I have not had a soda in 5 days. For anyone that knows me, they know that I am a massive carbonated beverage junkie. I have found that drinking green tea helps to alleviate the cravings for a sugary drink.
Welcome! I've gone about 6 weeks now without any soda... and I'm used to starting off my day with a 24 ounce Diet Pepsi and going from there. One thing that's really helped (I'm still surprised at this) is drinking seltzer water with lemon in it ... the fizzy goodness does a good job at replacing the soda and I've found after an initial get-used-to-it period, I now actually enjoy the bite it has as opposed to being sugary sweet. YMMV, of course, but this is the first time I've given up soda and don't crave it ... for the first time it's not taking up oodles of willpower to stay away. Kind of a different feeling for me. I gave up diet Pepsi probably 2-3 months ago. I drink a mug of coffee in the morning, but after that - water. I was nervous about racing on no-caffeine, so the last 2 races I did, I got a diet Pepsi for the morning of the race - figured the coffee would be too acidic in my stomach. Now it just tastes weird - which is cool. (I'm still going to drink it before races, don't want coffee-belly - but it's funny how quickly that my tastebuds changed.) |

Fortunately hubby doesn't mind either so on the weekend I'll try to plan my week but I change it up every week to include a new menu and I'll try to cook some new recipe that I know we'll all like. Usually I cook too much for the weekend dinners so we eat those leftovers on the busy nights during the week (like tonight). Depending on how you are eating (clean, paleo, south beach etc) they usually have books that include meal plans - maybe check one out of the library and use it to create a plan. I could never make a different thing every meal every day - I just don't have the time - so I'll pick one or two days as the foundation for my weekly plan. Alternate days or something. So far on track for today - drinking water, got a run in and a swim on my lunch hour. Yoga on tap for tonight which I REALLY need!! |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() CubeFarmGopher - 2012-10-25 1:43 PM Goals: Long story, short; I went from 340 in April 2005 to 218 in Sept 2006 with the help of BT. Since then, I have moved in a stepped pattern up the scale; gaining 10-15 pounds and holding for a while before going on a depression-induced eating binge that moves me up to the next plateau. I was especially active on BT from 2005 until 2008 and I really miss the camaraderie and motivation. With the exception of the weight numbers and the years, this sounds an awful lot like me! Welcome back, Shaun. And congrats on passing by those Reeses. |

I teach school, and understand your feelings on a different kind of level. MINI challenge for everyone today!!!! Find a quiet place to .. just be quiet. Close your eyes. Meditate for a moment.. breathe.. pray.. whatever might help you to just.. BE. Even if it's just 5 minutes. One of the greatest aspects of fitness for me has been to learn how self calm. Stress really sux. Wow, that's harder for me than doing any workout. lol!

Just cause we're on a journey to weight loss does not mean the food needs to be unappealing or boring. Eat lots of colors and textures. I know this in my head.....but was reminded again last night as I made dinner with my exchange student. Made a Vietnamese chicken & pepper stir fry with pineapple. Just seeing the red pepper, bright pineapples and the chinese chives in the pan made me appreciate it's goodness. Add in the flavor from the lemon grass and ginger root and watch the explosion of good food
Right on, Judy!!! I talk about this in a blog post a while ago. http://musingsinawackyworld.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html |

Pro![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I completely understand people are pushed for time.......try adding the phrase "because my health is not important me, my spouse/significant other or my family/kids" and you might change your thinking. We all have people and pets who depend on us, so you NEED to make your health a priority. For example, yesterday's core I could have said to myself "I'm not going to do my 100 because my health is not important to me, me dog or my family" Just something to think about |

Pro![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Cooking....those of you who have known me for a while, know that the kitchen is that room in the apartment where I store my water bottles. I usually eat eggs/egg whites for at least one if not 2 meals a day (typically I eat 4-5x a day), but I'm working on it! I recently started getting a box of organic produce delivered to my house, usually there are veggies in there I have to actually read the box description to even know what they are! This week I got bok choy and kale as part of the box. Now I will search for recipes that include these things. You can also just go to the market an pick at least one fruit or veggie that you have never tried! |

Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm in. My story is basically IM to couch. Started last month working out again after a long hiatus. I don't have a good excuse for getting so of of shape so I won't bore you with bad one. So right now I'm swimming 30 minutes 5x week in the morning, walking 4 - 5 times a week at lunch, running a mile or so at night (yeah, only 1 mile.....no laughing). Eating heathy foods most days. Weekends are my biggest problem. So cheating? Well, spent the last 3 days in the French Quarter eating and drinking.....but I'm back on the straight and narrow today. |

bok choy is great in stir fry recipes. I have seen it in most Asian cook books, no matter the specific nationality. Stir fried it in a Chinese recipe.....baked it with a Cietnamese one.....Fun |

I still had the same craving for chocolate so I went home and had a handful of chocolate chips and an apple. Overall, I will chalk that up as a win.
