MrsUSMC - 2007-12-13 4:35 PM If it makes you feel any better all last weekend, and every night since (except yesterday) I've been rearranging furniture in 3 rooms of my house too. I vote "yes" on "does it count."

x2!

I also agree that home projects, especially hauling stuff around, count towards your health!!!  I am dismantling my baby's furniture and selling it this weekend (already sold) and that makes me sad, but at the same time happy also since I am repurposing his room as an office/playroom/sewing room/guestroom and possibly mama's-leave-me-alone room!  I will be hauling stuff up and down stairs a bunch.

However--don't forget to try to fit in a quick training session, just to stay focused on your goals!!

Off to the gym in a while, have to avoid the cookies I made that are staring at me.

There's a "Home Improvement" option in your training log--if you click "Edit today's log" and then scroll down, you'll see a window with Actual Sports as the heading and a drop down menu where you can select a whole bunch of different options, and then put in minutes.

I've found that section invaluable because I have very active job(s), so it's really helpful to see where I might need to make adjustments in training or take an easier day. I think the same principle applies, just as an example, if you hauled boxes all Saturday, maybe you should postpone your two-hour bike ride from Sunday morning to at least Sunday afternoon, or cut the hills out of it.

There's also a button for Meditation, which I find fascinating. I'll be putting tips on mental training in here as well from time to time (or maybe even do a long, focused post on it like I did for Recovery and will for Base) ... it seems to be one of those (very few) aspects of training where you can put a little in and get a lot out.

Once my recovery period is over, I'll be logging all sorts of stuff, just for the heck of it--I mean, it's a free service on BT, so why not use all of it, and I think some very interesting patterns might emerge that will be invaluable for my health and training.

SWEET I will be looking that up everyday. As for my job I am always on my feet up and down ladders hauling stuff. That is what happens when you are the Apprentice and not the Electrician yet. I know some days after work there I just feel totally drained. The gym doesn't excite me but even a half hour run makes me feel so good and glad that I did it.

Ok where is the typing button and the speaking/directing buttons, can I log those as exercise?

I decorated the tree and hung up the lights, does that count? LOL

Ok I'm going home to do my run now and a bit of shopping for running gear.

Another run/walk tonight.  This time I tried run 5/walk 2.  I think this is a good combo for me.  I have actually enjoyed my past two runs...AMAZING!!!  I did my first mile in 9m07s, so I'm thrilled with that.  It's amazing how walking a little really doesn't slow you down!

I hear you guys on the home improvement stuff.  Having two little ones rarely allows me to sit down at all.

Glad you are liking that run walk. I find that I was super fast at 5 and 1 but it isn't practical in a race for me over long distances so I do 10 and 1.

As for little ones there is no sitting still when you have 5 at home. Age range 11 months to 13 it is crazy.

Re: walk/run. I read on one of the threads here (probably a couple months ago?) that run/walk has been shown to be faster for almost everybody until you hit about the 8-minute-mile mark. I find that a little hard to believe, not because I'm all that skeptical but because it just sounds so crazy. I don't actually like doing a run/walk because I find I really need the momentum to keep me going -- I hate stopping and starting again. But there's obviously something to it.

Re: home improvement as exercise. Hmm, more motivation to finally getting around to cleaning my kitchen.

Guys, I had a great swim tonight! I finally swam 100 yards in under 2:30! I was really thinking a lot tonight about everything I've learned from our conversations here, and, well, obviously it helped. Yay!

You may really need the momentum to keep you going but wow do your legs ever enjoy a nice minute break when you have been out there for a couple of hours. I hope to run continuous to about 10-12 K after that any longer like half marathon I will use 10 and 1 run/walk. I have always trained that way so my legs are like programmed for that break after 10 minutes and get cranky if I don't give it to them. It is like they have union contract that they get a break every 10 minutes and if they don't there will be job action taken and that really sucks!!

Good to hear it's better. Now I want you to start running in the morning. You should start with a 5 mile warm-up followed by 5 miles of interval training . I'll be kind on the cool down, you only need to run 2 miles at your 5k pace. LOL

Seriously good to hear the healing is going in the right direction.

"But doctor, will I be able to complete my 12-mile run when it heals?"

Doctor: "Of course!"

"Funny, 'cause I could never do that before ..."

BTW, as I pointed out, we have some friendly lurkers 'cause we're the Cool Kids ... so if they should drop in (as some have been) and even want to avail themselves of our wisdom, let's give them a warm Manatee Welcome ...

And in a group this chatty (surprise!) some additional helpful posts sure ain't gonna raise the roof that much. Besides, some other silly mentor group seems to try to be approaching our post count (LOL, j/k if you're Mila or Sparco, ahem) ...

Hello, Lurkers!

Yanti, I meant to mention this yesterday, but I'm intrigued by your tease about mental training. It's kind of embarrassing to admit, but for some reason I often get really nervous before workouts. I'm not sure why, although I suspect it's a confidence issue -- like I'm always afraid that this is the workout where I'll fall apart and somehow lose all the gains I've made. I don't know *why* that would make me nervous, because I'm fully aware that one (or two or three) bad workout is not the end of the world. And maybe that's not even why I'm nervous, maybe it's something else entirely.

I've found that doing some deep breathing and focusing on the workout (or, alternatively, distracting myself with something else) helps. It's just so weird, because ordinarily I have lots of self-confidence and I rarely get nervous about stuff. In fact, my friends often tease me because I'm so level-headed and calm. I'd really like to find a way to shake these nerves!

just curious how does everyone train on the weekend.

for me i have two kids who play sports, and understanding wife who doesnt mind the training on the weekends-as long as i am home at 9:00am. so plenty of time for a quick run or bike in the early am, and then my family has me for the rest of the day. that was our compromise.

Ah to only have 2 kids.

Weekends 4 kids swimming lessons one is 9:30-10:00 3 other 9:30 -10:30. Little one is in daycare there. GF goes early puts little one in daycare and one other for a short while. I show up with rest and they go swimming and I get to work out for the hour. My gf gets 9-10 I get 9:30-:10:30. I usually will do some light weights or stationary bike. But tomorrow I am going to do swimming drills as I wasn't able to go to my lesson this week as I was watching the kids. Sundays are given that I run I always have so that is cool. With getting the new bike also and just starting all this tri stuff gf asks if I am going riding on Saturdays will see how it all goes but we manage. My gf is on maternity so she can go to the gym during the day. I try and get in there at 5:30 am -6:30 am before work but doesn't always work that way.
