Master 1402 Cumming, Georgia | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread millarg - 2011-10-29 1:48 PM triburt - 2011-10-29 10:45 AM I've noticed that friends in other IM races have automatic updates to facebook of their progress on the course....anyone know how to set this up? I used an app last year which automatically updated facebook, the guy provided it free for IMFL 10 competitors as he was just setting up and wanted tested. It was great to read all of the comments the next day. Earlier this year, the guy sent a note saying that WTC was not allowing him access to the IM Live records - another example of big bad WTC being...... I'm the one that wrote the application and tried to keep it going this year even without the WTC's permission but just can't afford to keep doing it for free and risking a lawsuit from the WTC so I stopped offering it. IM Live can be very hit or miss for some reason and if I charged people a small fee and then IM Live goes down I am the one stuck with refunding fees. Processing credit cards is a rip off to begin with but paying to issue refunds sucks even more. I then switched to a "donation" model but again the results were not always reliable and the majority of people never came back to donate. Missing splits, splits changing, results being 30 - 60 minutes late, unreliable text message delivery, etc. all make it very difficult to offer a reliable service. Give all of that I decided to pull the plug and concede that without cooperation from the WTC it isn't a viable service. Now that I'm off my soap box. I hope everyone has a great race and I plan to do IM Florida next year. |

Sorry to see it go this way... and good luck in 2012! |

The wind however is a different story. To put it simply, the wind sucks! Here in the wind tunnel of Texas, the wind definitely BLOWS!! And I mean that in the most unenjoyable fashion... If the wind is sucking, ala Kansas, there is most certainly a different issue to worry about! :-) Be careful out there, Chad! |

Veteran 225 Decatur GA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread thanks for the info millarq! the beach looks gorgeous down there. I was reviewing my GCT race report and I thought the water was too warm at 77, so low 70's should be perfect. Now for the wind tunnel affect...aero helmet and race wheels...and very positive self talk |

Since dropping weight and building muscle the suit is not conformable anymore to a point where I am thinking of wearing my sleeveless suit. Water temp is 76. Doubt it'll change much in a week. I just bought a full suit because it was so cold last year. This year a sleeveless might actually be better. |

Regular 165 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I'm renting some wheels because I have had problems with my rear wheel the last three months or so. I have busted numerous spokes and can't keep the wheel true (last event was vs. a dog, but different story). LBS here told me that I had bad corrosion of the nipples and that they would all need to be replaced eventually, and that future spoke breakage was just matter of time. Well, didn't want that to be on Nov 5, so I just took the wheels out of the equation and rented some Zipps. I'd have raced the ones I have, love them to death as they ride great when true, but at this point just can't trust em. Probably have the wheel rebuilt after the race when there is more time off the bike at that point. Good trainer ride tonight, about 50 miles. Last semi long run and swim tomorrow and then short stuff all next week. |

Signing up on Friday for sure! Don't want to wait until Sunday because I might not want to. But a few weeks later I would have wish I did and be bummed because it will be sold out. We have about 15 people signing up for next year - most of them coming up to volunteer this year. Duane |

If I really like IMFL, I may do it again, but I'd kinda like to do a different one for some diversity. IMFL has the rep of being flat and fast (ie, not as taxing) which is perfect for my first. Next one will be maybe CDA or St. George (major hills). |
