cami bee - 2008-09-23 7:59 AM Morning everybody. Sprint is that a good night's sleep for you, or a bad?

Morning Cami. I like my sleep in 8 hour blocks. Ended up coming home late from Dubuque.

What were you doing so late in Dubuque, huh?  Sorry about the lack of sleep.

Went to dinner with the girl I've been talking to lately.   Left around 11, so I got back here at 1230ish.

Dubuque a happenin place?

It doesn't really seem too bad.  Actually may have more going on, depending on what you're looking for, than the Quad Cities.

Quad Cities?  (sorry my midwest geography is pretty lacking)

The Quad Cities are a group of, at this point, about 6-7 cities in IL and IA on I-80.  Bettendorf and Davenport, IA and Moline and Rock Island, IL plus E. Moline, Silvis, and Milan IL.  It's not really as big an area as you would think with that many cities put together.

Do you ever think you're awake enough to work on something, then get about 5 minutes into and realize you have no idea what's going on.  I really shouldn't even attempt to do things that require thinking before 10:30am.  I would save myself a lot of grief.

mr2tony - 2008-09-23 10:02 AM Hi TAN. No drink last night and now I'm tired. Does that make me an alcoholic?

Possibly. Where's GRD? I feel like he had a comment related to this in another thread (someone was asking what drinking a lot/eating wings and junk would do to your body - as if this weren't an easy question?!?!)

Okay, time for another installation of WWTD? I need some new running shoes soon. Currently wear a neutral shoe (Mizuno Wave Riders), and really, I'm not sure when else I would wear since I have pretty high arches, and from what I can tell, stability and motion control shoes are more for folks who overpronate - which I do not - my shoes (casual or otherwise) always show more of a wear pattern on the outside of the heel. I went to a real running store to get fitted the first time - they watched me run outside, as well as looked at my feet etc. After going to the doc about my ITB/glute issues, she said to go to a different running store to see what they said. The marathon is a month away. My current shoes have about 250 miles on them. I do not know if my pain issues are from the shoes or not. So I am a bit worried about switching to a shoe that might not be right for me and might cause more problems. Thoughts? WWTD?

There's your answer. Stop stressing. Go buy new shoes that don't hurt and go run. If they hurt as well, then you're fu**ed. And not in the good way.

Yes.

Try on lots of shoes. I can tell when I get that right fit as soon as I put them on. Be vigilant in your search, and you will have success.

That's the thing though. I don't know if it's the shoe, or if it's simply a biomechanical issue - ie, my body just needs to adapt to the mileage, or I need to strengthen my right leg more, etc. That hip has always been tighter than the other, even before I started doing triathlons or running. The shoe I'm currently wearing might not be making the difference. But the WRONG shoe might make things worse, kwim?

Can't tell ya what to do. And TAN, unless there's a doc around (where the f are they when you need them?) nobody here can. Go talk to your doctor. If it hurts so bad to run, then stop running and bag the 'thon.

I just started a topic like this in tri-talk to get advice.  I also have high-inflexible arches.  I've been running in Miz. Wave Inspire 4's (the stability version because the shop that fitted that shoe said I pronate).  The new shop says I don't pronate and need to be in regular shoes, and that the Mizuno's are a bad choice for me because the plate that's in them pushes too much weight to the outside of the foot.  They said with high, stiff arches that that was the last thing I needed.  Good luck finding a shoe that works for you.  I'm heading out tonight to do the same thing.

How about you go to a different running store (get a recommendation from BT if you need one) and talk to them about your issues.  They might recommend something different, they might not.  Just because you go in, doesn't mean your obligated to buy new shoes then and there.

Subject: RE: TAN 47: El CapiTAN

Good Morning.  I don't actually belong here.  My name is Stephanie and John Wright is my husband.  He asked me to come into your room and let you know that he was rushed into surgery this morning for an unspecified internal problem.  Hopefully they will take care of it and find out what is causing it quickly.  At this point, his transplanted organs are in danger and his life may also be.

He was perfectly fine until late Sunday night when he woke up very ill.  He thought he had the flu or food poisoning, so he treated himself for that and stayed home from work on Monday.  At about noon he had been getting sick for almost 10 hours, so he called his doctor and the doctor also suspected food poisoning.  He called in a prescription to help him settle his stomach and told him to call back if it did not work.

He was admitted to the hospital around 7 PM last night and they started doing a lot of tests and taking a great deal of blood.  They came back this morning at around 5:30 and said that they were taking him to surgery, that there was something going on internally, but the tests to find out exactly what it was would take too long to save his organs if they were being attacked.  They asked for permission to operate immediately and I granted it.

That, really, is all I know right now.  He has been in surgery for about 3 hours and they just came out and told me that I should go eat and take a walk or something because it was going to be another three or four before I could talk to the surgeon.

On his way into surgery, he asked me to get on this website and tell you all goodbye.  That really scares me because it was as if he knew he wasn;t going to make it, and after all of the surgeries he has been through, he has never had that attitude.  I am not sure who all of you are, but he must think highly of you.  That should make you proud, as he is a great man.  Please pray for him.
