Expert 4269 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS)--OPEN Originally posted by nicole14e Went to masters practice last night and our coach decided it was a time trial night. He's sending our times later, but I think my 200 free was 2:49 or so, my 500 free was 7:50 maybe? and we did a 100 IM which I did in 1:24. It wasn't as awful as I thought it would be, and it's definitely nice to have a baseline for the start of the season. My back is super sore today though! Nicole - I would pay big money to be able to swim as fast as you. Right now you're a minute faster than I am for a 100. damn - that's fast! |

What the he!! is MFP??? MFP = My Fitness Pal - it's an app that keeps track of what you eat and helps you stay accountable. |

Made it to the gym and kicked a$$ for a third day in a day. Thanks for the accountability! Great work, Dave!!! Let's talk nutrition. What are you doing on that front? Have you been posting in MFP? I am re-downloading it as we speak. I do not remember deleting it but apparently I was over it at some point haha. Anyway, I am studying to be an RD and even though I am nowhere near finishing and having the formal education, I am very interested in nutrition and would be happy to help you with any questions you might have, make a plan, or share some healthy but delicious recipes. I also took a webinar on something called intuitive eating. It's all about not thinking of foods as "good" and "bad" and not depriving yourself of things you really enjoy, but being mindful and having a positive relationship with food. I'd be happy to discuss this with you further if you are interested in learning more. I could even go through the principles with the group if others are interested. I could post one a week :-) (there are 10 principles) |

2126 Baltimore, Maryland | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS)--OPEN Went to boot camp this morning. I didn't sleep super well last night so I'm dragging a bit now, but boot camp is so worth it. It's my strength training plus some cardio and I always feel so incredible afterwards. I know our focus is SBR but I think HIIT workouts help me a lot with my strength and stamina. They're also easy to do while travelling if you have a little space. Jenn, do you do any workouts like that when you are travelling? |

Well...not entirely true because I input my food on MFP and that connects to the others, so I guess two places. It works pretty good. |

It works pretty good. I've been using RunKeeper or Strava or I just downloaded Nike fit or whatever to try that out. Do those all connect to Garmin? Since my Garmin watch broke I haven't even been using that. I'm trying to figure out what watch I would like to get next but they are so darn pricey and I would want one that can come in the pool with me, but that doesn't look so bulky so I can wear it all the time. |

Garmin 920XT - $200 at pedometersusa.com. I have the red and white one - looks really cool. |

I would love for you to post the 10 things - one a week!! That would be great! Hey, awesome swim by the way. You are a fish! It pains me to see the 920 at $200 when I got it 3 years ago for well over twice that. Hahaha! DQ, well done on 3 days in a row!! I sent a “friend request” to DaveQ on MFP - though I’m not sure if that’s you. Haha 2 mile powerwalk and a 3 mile run. Runs get slowed down with the crosswalk pauses but overall I’m really happy to report no old piriformis pain so far! Yea! |

That's awesome! 60' of sweet spot intervals on the trainer at 5:30 AM this morning - ugh. So I get up this morning at 5:15 and walk downstairs to grab the paper (yes, we still get it delivered...) and my wife is already on the TM in the basement. I walk down to say good morning and she looks at me (still in my PJs...) and says "where the hell are your workout clothes?? Get you a$$ back upstairs and then get down here on this bike!" Needless to say, I complied. Edited by jmhpsu93 2017-11-30 7:11 AM |

Thanks for the accountability! I've read lots of nutritional info over the years, and the one thing that seems consistent about them is what Nicole described above about having a positive relationship with food, enjoying it and not punishing yourself and thinking in terms of good and bad. |

Are you working out in New York City as part of your flying? Too bad you weren't closer to central park or something like that where you could get in a nice uninterrupted run. How many David Q's can there be? I'm Qua17. I will keep n eye out for your friend request |

2126 Baltimore, Maryland | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS)--OPEN Mike your wife sounds like a great motivator! I will check out the watch too, although it looks pretty bulky. I want something I can wear all the time. There's a pretty cheap fitbit I might get for now/ask Santa to get for me. It would automatically track runs and swims and such but would not provide all the other information the 920 would. I typically don't really use that info though, so for now think this might be a good tracker to try out. Then for running and biking I can still use the apps I've been using to get that detail, and it will automatically track my swims. |

2126 Baltimore, Maryland | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS)--OPEN Went for a run this morning. I woke up early but it took me a little bit to get motivated to get out of bed. Ran about 3.5 at 9:06 pace according to Nike Run Club app. I did not feel like I was running that fast though so am not sure I trust this app. |

1941 , Vermont | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS)--OPEN Dave Q, positive thoughts your way! Couldn’t run today - up early to work then helped a fellow crashpadder move to another crashpad and now its way to dark out in sketchy NYC. I did get a lot of fast walking in at least. Tomorrow is a 14 hour work day so I’m not sure what I’ll be able to do but on the bright side, in a couple of days I’ll have a 24 hour layover in Charlotte, NC where I anticipate being able to run outside in lovely temperatures. |

Definitely boring, but it's an incredible workout. If you have some kind of waterproof music player or waterproof bluetooth headphones you could always listen to a podcast! Here's an explanation video that describes it well. Make sure you are upright like this lady is, not leaning forward. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHg05bP8Z_E I would have my hands flat and pushing water back as I moved forward, but like he says, you can really do whatever you want with your arms. |
