Just got back from my long run. It's nice to see how much we can improve with training. last year around the same time I was happy to come back home after a 20k ride on my bike.

This morning I went and ran 20k. Amazing how much training changes everything

blujay65 - 2009-04-19 7:04 AM Good Morning PPG's!

An overcast and warm Sunday here in the deep south, thunder storms on the horizon; classic spring weather. Have a lot to do today, so it may just be a rest day. That should be OK as I need to do a longer run tomorrow morning.

What's everyone else up to?

A few miles north, and our weather looks pretty much like your weather. In fact, it can't seem to make up its mind whether to be sunny or storm.

I should get out for a long run. Not sure the long part will happen, but I will get out for a run. If the storms break, I may do a trainer ride and follow that up with a short brick run. We'll see. I'm sorta' playing today by ear. So much to get done around the house and, unfortunately, I have the attention span of a flea, so I don't stay on task very long.

Okay...I counted my warm up and my race as two separate runs (my warm up was 15 minutes plus striders). They were separated by 15 minutes...is that okay?

That makes sense to me.  Race is well defined and the warm up isn't part of the race.

Nice job on the race!!

Good. That was sort of my rationale, too.

Gonna do another 5k on Friday night. I hope the course is flatter...I want to try and take about 30 seconds off of yesterday's time. I feel like I can push a bit more...maybe.

It's been so long since I've done a standalone 5k, I had forgotten how much fun they are.

Artemis - 2009-04-18 4:07 PM I biked this morning. My goal was 25 miles, but I had to shorten it a little because of my asthma and a bad calf cramp. Still, it was a good ride and I'm happy I got out before it got really warm.

Way to get it done, but when I read getting it done before it gets too warm ... Damn it's the other way around here

It got up to 80 yesterday. Usually this starts a few weeks earlier, but it's been cold and rainy this year. In the summer, I start long rides around 7 to avoid the heat as much as I can.

I have been lucky enough to get 50 yesterday for my ride

I'm waiting for it to hit 50 here before heading out on the ride.

The good news is that there is no more rain in the forecast for today, so I can actually wait another hour or two before heading out

*rain, rain go away.  come again another day toppage*

Question for you all, are you member of a Triathlon club? If so how expensive is it?

There's one here and I am thinking about joining them. It's around 1k a year but this include a coach, not sure how personnal the coaching is though. It also include 3 swimming session per week. Running and riding sessions too with the coach.

Well, that's exciting!  I like the 5k distance.  Short, but hard, and like you said really fun!

My club is $25/year.  There are group workouts and coached swims once per month.  Can you go to a few workouts and see what it is like before committing to $1000?  That's way too much to just give up front if you aren't sure you will like it.

No kidding!  I'll get a break after Wednesday, assuming I pass the qualifying exam.  I'm so stressed out and nervous.

I pay about $100 for every eight sessions (run/swim) with my tri club.  We're pretty small so the swim coaching has been on a very personal level.  It's helped tremendously.

Sounds like you could get a lot out of that club.   Any way you can pay for a smaller block of time to see how you like it first?

First out all this is the University Tri club here, the coach is the same as the one who coaches the University athletes so my guess is that he's really good. Before comitting to join them I can go for a one week period to test the club and see if I like it, and for them to see if I will fit within the club. After that it's 350$ every 4 months. So I guess if I am unhappy after 4 months I can just quit.

If I join them I will drop the Master Swimmers, which is around 500$ a year. So the Tri club would be 500$ instead of 1k. And I would have swimming lessons more triathlete oriented which would be better in my opinion.

They have 6 swimming lessons per week, But three of them are too late in the morning for me to go since I have to work.

They also have running and riding sessions, I forgot how many of each though.

I would definitely say try it out for a week the those first 4 months if you like.  Sounds like you might get a lot of help for the money.

Um, it's probably not a good time to tell you that it's 70 F here today.

But it's going to rain later on, if that makes you feel any better.

Have a nice ride.

My tri club is only $30 per year but it doesn't include any coaching. Monthly meetings and group runs and rides, only.

I had a good ride this morning on the tri bike; not too hot and not too windy.

I've decided that I will use my other bike for my first tri in three weeks. I'm not completely sure I can handle the hills on this bike and I'm definitely not yet comfortable with the gearing and the shifting.
