Started to pack my bike up and  I just could not get my Keo pedals off and wanted to see if the bike case would close with  the pedals still on and that was a solid NEGATIVE . Now I got to go with a  broken down bike to the LBS tomorrow so they can take them off UGh!!

Brighter note  I am semi packeted for the race. I noticed I do not have a lot of stuff like most people in terms of special needs bags and so on.  Tuesday I am just buy last  nutrition needs and  will buy  my red bull and snicker bars in florida. Here is what I have for my bags

Swim:

Wetsuit, goggles ,Body glide/ tri glide and 2 gels and water

T1:

Winder breaker jacket, arm warmers, sun glasses, helmet, shoes (with toe covers already on) and power bar and gel

Bike SNB:

 same nutrition already in bike

T2:

running shoes, socks, visor, gel, running bottle and a smile

Run SNB:

Snickers bar and red bull and band aids

Are you going to put a extra layer or jacket in your run SNB? It can cool off once the sun goes down.

Smile in T2 bag....nice!

The "support crew."  Frannie (little one) will not make the trip - long day.  Mom will bring the big sisters.   Dropped off my nike this afternoon after a great 40 mile ride.  TriTeamTransport will pick it up in the morning....

I think I will put a  long sleeve shirt of some sort in there. So when you run into the finish line shoot ,do people just take off there  jackets or shirts  for the photo. I watched the video of IMFL last year and people finishing on there tri-tops

Favorite kit I've seen so far! Laughing

Thanks Kathy,

My Wife and I decided she should probably stay home with our 14 year old Lab so I am on my own driving from Delaware.  It will be nice to hang out with others.  It my 51st birthday Nov. 4th!  I am an open water diver.  Hoping to perhaps get a dive in  Anyone else interested?  Its been a few years for me.

Wouldn't do it prior to race, especially if its been a while since you've been under pressure.  You will have bubbles, and the high cardio of the race could stick a bubble where it shouldn't be.  But if you have to get wet, go to the jetties at St Andrews and stay under 30fsw.

Hello:

A few more questions from a first timer:

1. Do you turn in ALL bags, T2, SNB, SNR, at bike check in.

2. Do you have acces to the T2 bag in the morning at race day?

3. Is there any food avaliable once you cross the finish line?

4. Are there pumps available in the morning do I need to take my own?

Getting very anxious.. thanks

We had a snow storm Nor'easter last night/this morning. Heavy snow, gusts up to 50mph, lots of big trees and branches down, we kept hearing loud cracks of tree breaking during the nice the heavy snow and wind was a bad combination...lost power, cable, phone, house was cold...it sucked!

We lost the top to almost all our oaks in back yard more this storm compared to hurricane last month.

Everything is back.

You're lucky.  We're looking at week to get our power back.  Downed trees and wres everywhere.  Not a good way to start off race week.

Leaving tomorrow when kids get out of school, will get down there at night sometime.  Still haven't packed or gotten gear together.  Guess I'll be up doing that tonight.  Nothing like procrastination!  Stressing a bit about valve extenders for the rental wheels.  Never used those before and worried about wasting CO2 if I don't have it on right.  Will have to make a note to tinker with it prior to race.  Last 10 mile run was yesterday and it went very well on tough terrain.  Actually picked up pace all the way through the run.  Last swim tonight before leaving.

1. You turn in your T1 and T2 bags at bike check in.  You turn in you SN bags on race morning.

2. At every WTC race I've done you've had access to both your T1 and T2 bags on race morning.

3. Yes.  The earlier you finish, the better the food.  Its generally pizza.  Nothing fantastic.  Plan on getting a real meal somewhere else.

4. Plenty of people have pumps.  You can find someone without too much difficulty.

Yup. That means when I get there, there is a whole bunch of empty cardboard boxes and a buttload of pizza crusts that are already hard

Just wondering, in the same way that altitude training helps O2 retention (little more complicated I know - more red blood cells etc) but would diving & the extra pressure reduced O2 capacity (damage red blood cells).Anyways. Not really a serious query, just idle pondering

Livestrong191 - 2011-10-29 7:01 PM Tested out my full wet-suit and man oh man it sucked. Since dropping weight  and building muscle  the suit is not conformable anymore   to a point where I am thinking of wearing my sleeveless suit.

Water temp is 76.  Doubt it'll change much in a week.  I just bought a full suit because it was so cold last year. This year a sleeveless might actually be better.

Quick question.  What do they give you at the finish?  In my prior HIM's they gave out a hat.  Do you get one in FL?  If not I'll buy one but I don't need 2 of them.

My bike computer stopped working on our ride Saturday.  Not sure if it go too wet or what.  Ugh.  I have my Garmin but then it won't have enough battery for the ride and the run.  Oh well, we'll see if it dries out by Saturday (already packed in the backseat of the car).

enjoy,

Duane

My Garmin 310XT just started acting up too.  A full charge would only last 7 hours, read Low Battery, and then automatically shut off.  Frustrating last minute glitch.  Tried the software download, full reset, nothing worked.  So I commandeered my wife's Garmin and will probably use that during the race.  Oh, and Garmin's sending me a new one too, but not sure I want to mess with setting up a new watch late in the week.

question about putting the bottles/food on the bike:

I assume you can take this stuff there on race morning to put on your bike?  I will have liquid food in bottles/flasks so will be filling my bottles on race morning.  So I would be bringing these with me then.

'Twas the night before Ironman, and in the hotel
Not a person was sleeping, and that’s just as well

Their bags were all packed with the utmost of care
In hopes that all needed gear still would be there

But tossing and turning in their beds that night
They couldn’t help thinking that all was not right

“What have I forgotten?” raced through all their heads
While trying to get back to sleep in their beds.

Of body glide, of helmets, of wetsuits, and Gu
they pictured transition rooms over and through,

'Till finally the clock on the corner struck three
And up they all got to rehydrate and pee

Before long the racers arrived at the site
And all were excited, and some had much fright

The signal was given; they swam with much care
and hoped that the finish line soon would be there

The day would be long with much joy and much strife
But all should reflect on this piece of advice:

Remember to smile, and not blow your pace
Happy IM to all, and to all a good race!

Enjoy your day...see you at the finish line (I'm catching 6-9)

I'm look'n forward to meeting you guys Thursday morning for a swim! Quick info about me . . . Michael Jones, 35, Mississippian, married father of 3 princesses. My last race was Augusta this year 4:34 . . . got hot on the second run lap and basically bonked lol. Oh well. This is my first full IM . . . #1 goal at IMFL is a 4 hour marathon. I do that and it means I put together a conservative swim/bike and nailed the nutrition for my first IM! Obviously, I'll be happy to survive the race, but at my ability a 4 hr mary is something to "reach" for.

First pic below is me at Augusta (wife took). The next is my gear laid out for IMFL. I plan to use all my own nutrition. I know, It's a lot of stuff . . . but I plan to take advantage of bike and run special needs as this time its about comfort and less about speed. I'll be wearing the white one piece suit. The orange is for my last bit of training as I plan to leave out tomorrow (Tuesday). Sorry I don't post on here more. I'm really enjoying the site!
