What 3 or 4 languages do you speak? I from Oregon but grew up in California - in the Bay Area friends said I had an accent because I don't pronounce the "g" at the end of nothing, so it sounds like like nuthin' LOL I also find myself speaking "black" when I am around black friends. My Junior High School had about 5 white kids in it. All my friends were black, so I picked up on the slang and still sometimes use it today. I don't think about it, it just happens. I have also been known to say "y'all" when hanging out with friends that are "country" or from the south. I never used to do that, but then I started listening to country music every now and then, and the "y'all" just pops out from time to time. Sure hope that didn't sound racist. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am probably the least prejudiced person you will ever meet. |

I used to know a couple hundred words and phrases in Japanese and Farsi. Presently learning German as my nieces are taking it.
P.S. The benefit of Southern English is that we make a distinction between second person singular and second person plural, like romance languages do. Edited by MadMathemagician 2013-01-22 7:59 PM |

Question, how do you all figure out your splits on the fly? I have my iphone with the app mapmyride but that only give me my average pace over my entire run. It would be nice to know what my pace is over an exact mile. I'm a lot of pages behind, and pardon me if someone has already said this, but if you go to the web site, MapMyRide (/Run /Fitness /etc) will give you mile splits. It's a totally awesome app/web combo. |

Muskrat37 - 2013-01-22 6:00 PM What software do you use?rrrunner - 2013-01-22 10:50 AM Ok, as I mentioned a few pages back I attempted to do some video of my swim session on Monday. I am posting links to said videos but warning they are long. At times you can see the folks in the adjoining lanes. I tried to edit the videos to make them shorter but I think I made them harder to watch so I scrapped the edited and am giving you the raw deal. Two of the videos are from my 200's so they have me coming and going more and I'm not really "pushing". The other two are from the 50's which were at the end of the set so I was more tired and I was "pushing" more. For your viewing pleasure: I realize the videos don't get a great view of my swim but if they are any help at all I'd love some input. I used my GoPro Can you go to www.ge.tt and "share" the original videos...after you upload them, you can send them to an email address. I will message you my personal email address. When I get the originals - I will be able to edit out the dead space and leave clips of the parts we need to see. I will also slow down the video in the most important parts to make it easier to analyze / see. If you have questions - you can call me on my cell and I can walk you through it. It's really easy to do. |

It's really easy to do. For the simple splicing and slow motion (which is all I need for these videos) I just use Windows Live Movie Maker. I also have Microsoft Expression Encoder (it came with my web development software I use to build websites) - but I'm not very good with it. It's meant more for making movies to use in a Silverlight player and doing the encoding. |

Veteran 1100 Dayton | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! TriAya - 2013-01-22 12:01 PM rrrunner - 2013-01-23 12:20 AM So another "view" I got on my bike this weekend was this "ghost bike". That's what they're called here. People in New Mexico are big on placing memorial crosses and personal items on the side of roadways where a loved one was killed. (Think of the country song "Three Wooden Crosses", Randy Travis lives in NM). In cases where the person was killed on a bike the memorial usually includes a ghost bike. Well this one "appeared" recently on a route I ride regularly. When I first saw it from across the road it freaked me out because I hadn't heard anything about a recent accident out there. When I came back by I stopped to take a look and saw that the victim was killed in 2007. Maybe it took his family this long to get approval from the tribe to put it there, i dunno. Anyway, it reminded me that I need to be ever vigilant, even on this highway with wide shoulders. Stay safe my friends. That picture makes me cry. I don't know if any of you read Yehuda Moon -- it's a cartoon about a guy who works in a bike shop and rides his crusty old touring bike everywhere -- there's a very poignant recurring theme about a friend of his who was hit and he put up a ghost bike for him. I checked out the comic, and I have to say it's pretty funny. I'll have to bookmark that one. |

Sunny here but a mild 75 or so, perfect weather. Unusual for Melbourne it's usually either stinking hot or not. I feel better for the run, endorphins surely are a wonder drug. |

Think chimney sweep in Mary Poppins. I think because i have a Greek husband and lived in Greece for 5 years I had to neutralise my accent to be understood before I learnt the language. Artemis has a real Aussie accent! We all speak English and Greek at home, we just switch between the two all the time - it's funny for an outsider to hear. I do so love you manatees, you've made me smile today and that's a big ask. |

There's a couple races I'm eyeing June 2 and 7. It depends . Is the HIM your A race? I wouldn't do it, because I would not be able to *not* race the sprint, when I should be tapering for the HIM. Some people could do it with success I guess, but a week out from a HIM, assuming the half is your A race, you should be taking it relatively easy to be fresh. |

Other than the maca powder you might want to see a naturopath or allopath or really, any kind of path … you might want to think about hormone replacement therapy … or cognitive-behavioral therapy … but things shouldn’t have to be this tough for you. Love you to bits, don’t want to see you going to bits! Salty – Ethiopian food, the one thing Bali is missing! Heh … my bestest buddy and I used to go eat Ethiopian food the night before long runs and then really regret it the next day. But it’s so yum. I need to figure out how to make injera (the spongy bread) at home. Badger Jen Moose – CONGRATULATIONS! Yes! People like you and I need to be congratulated about being lame when we’re lame so we won’t be lame anymore.
Of course I made the PB cookies ... except I did so TONIGHT at 1am. If I forgot anyone or anyone has burning desires or questions or really just feels like they need attention, hop up and down and flipper-thwack my azz. Yanti, (or anyone) I was wondering which is 'better': a third (I already do 2 masters swims per week) longish (~2500m) swim, or two shorter (~1500m) swims? Kirsten, I got nuthin'. I swim so badly I shouldn't be a manatee But I will say that your distances frighten me, no matter how you slice it up. I gotta get more pool time... |
