Well managed to convince myself to go for a quick lunch run.

Been a good day! managed to beat some of my PR's on same route and to top it off....dropped 4lbs!! After 2 straight weeks of no weight loss, BAM! Had to step on twice to make sure! Just need a good eating day tomorrow and a good fitness day Saturday before my beer tasting to keep on a roll!

Mel, it does get faster. They call this the "pre-conditioning phase," and next week it starts getting faster. It also adds in interval days and things like that. I think it will be a good guide to what I should be doing, but I will probably make adjustments pretty regularly as I get into better shape.

On the jerseys....

Is there any way we could get a matching pair of Tri Shorts to go with the tri top? I like it, but with it being blue and white, it's not going to match black shorts all that great.... I need a new pair anyhow.

I may be slow, but I wanna look damn good while doing it. :D

EDIT:
I was just surfing around, and 2XU has some tri shorts with light blue on the bottom cuff of the shorts. Would be pretty sweet with them. I think I'll just order those. :D

Cynthia- hope the calf heals up.

Nicole- rest that shoulder up, but the run plan sounds like a good idea

Thor/John- hahaha yes major typo I'm 230, and well done on the PR's

I'm pretty sore today, had to do training in the rain and was propped up on my elbow for about 30 min pulling perimeter, I am getting better but it is def sore.

Ah, yes, the REST of the road post injury. Hope that goes away soon too. Something about joint pain that just makes ya miserable.

If it's the 2xu shorts I'm thinking of, I actually tried a pair on at a local shop yesterday, they are extremely nice, I just wasnt ready to bite the bullet on how much they wanted for them just yet.

+1 on the matching tri shorts...would love the set in red and white to match my bike, but I could live with a matching blue and black set

Looking around, I have found some other brands with blue options. DeSoto is one. I have DeSoto tri shorts and top now, and like them. The pockets on the shorts are AWESOME for stashing some gels (I am that guy that ends races with pockets of gels from the aid stations) LOL!!!!

At first I could only walk on my toe and couldn't place my foot down. Mid way through the day I could put my heel down but I couldn't take a full stride. Now I can walk as long as I am taking short strides.

It has got to heal because I have an OLY on the 12th!

Ouch! Sorry to hear that. Hope it heals well!

Now, if I was fast enough for there to still be good recovery food by the time I finish, it would be different, but hey, a guy's got to eat.

And I love my Desoto gear.

Check-in: Workout 3 & 4 today. 3 mile run and 12 mile stationary bike.

Shirt Count: Here are the totals so far: YEA! 11 (Only counted 1 from firebert) NAY! 2 Pretty Sure 1 (Thor is on the fence)

Get your vote in if you haven't yet please!

b2b14 The plan is to see if we're going to over 24 (so I can get the price lower) After getting the counts for a week I'll know. Then everyone can go order what they want individually. I don't think we're going to hit the 24 number but we'll see.

Cynthia Wow, sorry to hear about the calf. You and I have different definitions of calf pull. I now realize that I am a wimp. When my calf is super sore for a week after a big run, I've used that word. I've never had the "can't place my foot down" pain. Given the timeframe of your race, I would think a doctor's advice might be warranted. Best of luck getting back on your feet.

Nicole Keep it up. The PT will get you back out there. I didn't see you mention it, so ask the PT about icing it. That might help if you ice it before bed.

Weight loss I had myself penciled in as a Clydesdale for my August race, but the weight has been dropping off quicker than expected. This is with me not following any Tri training plans yet. The upside is that I bought a pair of tri shorts (Size XL) and boy is that like jamming 10 pounds into a 5 pound bag. I'm holding onto them since I expect the weight loss to continue. No one wants to see that though at this point.

Nay for me.

I decided to bag a run (5 miles) today. I've been tired and kind of have to work hard not to snap at people for the past few weeks, and just realized it might be because I'm walking the line towards overtraining. I've been following the Hal Higdon Intermediate plan for the marathon, with the idea that I might step down to Beginner if I need to.
The upshot was, it was such a nice evening I decided to go to the park and did 2 easy miles. It was fun and maybe just what I needed.

Dave - count me in for one of each, a jersey and a tri top. I'm off the fence. These shirts are awesome. (since I found out yesterday I did in fact get an annual bonus from work. For years we didn't get one, so at this point any money coming in that's unexpected is cause for celebration!)

Outstanding work - both on the double and especially the weight loss!!!!

Workout update - yesterday was of course the rest day in the 30 day plank challenge. I didn't post my update from Wednesday's because I was working until midnight Anyway Wednesday was the next leap from 120-150sec, and I failed at about 125 seconds - from lower back pain (?) My abs were still in it to win it but my back hurt. One more thing to bring to my dr.... I'll make the next shot at 150sec glory tonight.

Had a good run last night, even though it was a treadmill run. 4.4 miles 40 mins. Nothing fast, was just trying to keep the HR down in Zone 2 (which I failed at again...). I'm starting to wonder about my zone calibration - I spent the whole 40 mins barely taking a deep breath, but then the HR keeps getting higher into Z3.... Anyway it was a good reminder that I need to do more running, the quads and hips were tired a couple miles in.

Weather - Happy Spring everyone. I only hope that spring comes to me (and Dave Q, and Jenn, and anyone else in the north) soon. 25F ambient and snow all over the ground.... I demand my New England mud and yellow grass springtime! lol.

after 3 days of 75-80 sunny days today, my 1:30 bike ride day, I get 55 and rainy so on the trainer it was. I was very glad when it was over. I'm not sure why but the trainer is so much worse than the rolling hills of NC.

John- when I first started HR training my HR would sky rocket even though I didn't feel tired. I would slow down and keep it in Z2 till the last mile then I just run it out as if it was a race. After a while what I noticed is that my HR caught up to how I felt and I can run faster longer when I actually stay in Z2. It may take time to adapt to it, but it pays off in the end. just my 2 cents

I may just try that! My problem always is that I hate going slower than I can go. If I can go faster, why shouldn't I go faster? Well because research tells us that slower longer is better for going faster ultimately. So I try but it's so hard to slow down every 5 mins when the HR reading tells me it's up again... I start to feel like I'm barely moving... Anyway thanks! And sorry you had to keep it indoors on the trainer. Could be worse, it could be 35 and snowing (it is here today, yay spring...)

Everyone wants to go fast.  Going slow is hard.  It's literally the tortise and the hare story.  Here's one for you:  https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/562984502.  It's the long run in my ironman build, which was the day after a 120 mile + 45 minute brick.  Average HR was 122, for 15 miles, at a 12:33 pace.  That's yawning slow, but at that pace, in some really hilly terrain, I'm barely putting in any effort.  Consistent HR training lowers your resting HR, gives you a greater range to work with, and speeds up everywhere.  Think about how much faster you'll be if you go from running 12:00/mile at 135bpm to running 11:30/mile at 135bpm.

I'm also a believer in Galloway's run/walk method.  It's hard to get one's ego to accept it, but it works really well.

My last tri was hilly and I took the entry from my injured husband so had not trained. I decided to walk all uphills and run flats and downhills. I bet I passed 20 people who burned themselves out running up the hills.

I swam a mile today - need to start ramping swimming for 5/30! It's time.

Happy Friday! Happy Spring! I know it has to be spring somewhere - though we still have almost 2 feet of snow in the yard!

2500 in the pool today
wu: 4 x 200 (free, kick, pull, free)
main; 1 x 1500
cd: 4 x 50 easy

lots of nice swimming this week, can't wait to ride outside! The trainer is a butt bruiser! LOL
Tonight's beer - an Imperial IPA from Brandon, VT in a glass I won in my first sprint last summer. Working on the motivation!!
