There is a "Spaghetti Factory" down town and actually sits on the RUN course.  Good food. Great prices. Fun atmosphere!

I have a question regarding athlete check-in. Is it possible to check in on Saturday? I just interviewed for a job and if hired would have to work on Thursday and Friday. Does anyone else have this problem and have you found a solution?

I'd bet that if they did hire you, it's because of your qualifications and not that you are able to work this Thrs and Fri. I'd tell them what you have planned. Surely they'd understand if you told them you've been training for 6+ months for this IRONMAN and it's all come down to this weekend. Good luck.

River temp. is down to 79.82 degrees down 1.4 degrees from the 19th. Current is still 0.4 mph.

timdude - 2009-08-19 8:00 PM

Now for some water quality updates, most of these figures are taken just up river at the white water tower you see about a mile from Tumble weed on your left.

Raw water temp. 81.22 degrees.

Turbidity 16.5 very very low, this is great even with all the rain we have had. Should be able to see the giant catfish before they see you.

P.H. 7.68 just like pool water.

The river current is about 0.4 mph slow in my book.

These condition are excellent in my humble opinion, if the predicted air temps hold up we should see alot of PR's. Now this is the Ohio river valley and thinks can change in an instant, so don't kill the messenger if they do.

Pretty sure that's a no. I'm having to rearrange some finals so I get there on Friday.

A buddy of mine had the same situation but he just started the job. He called the RD and they basically said per race book all must be picked up by 5pm Friday.  You may have better luck but its pretty clear (and BOLD) in the book.  Good luck

Last Chance Open Water Swim Late Notice: There is a group swimming in Noblesville, Indiana, from Morse Park and Beach tomorrow, Tuesday 8/25, at 7am. Plan is to swim 2500 open water in the lake, out around the island and back. This is an update for this Tuesday AM swim, for those wanting to swim long at 7am. We are planning on getting in the water at 7am sharp, so please try to not be late.

We will meet at Morse Park and Beach (not South Harbour Beach) at about 6:45AM. Traffic on the lake should be non-existant/very light, and should make for a very nice swim from the park to the island and back. Feel free to invite others, the more the merrier. If you are just reading this here, feel free to come join us, but beware, if you are not here by 7am, you may be sprinting to join us in the water.

The water temp in Morse Lake is 78*. Plan on it being between 76* and 77* by the morning, today was chilly. Air temp will be in the 60*s.

As the group is just training, and this is a informal thing, costs are free - though if you just really insist, I like Starbucks coffee - just whatever the strongest is, with just a spash of skim milk.

I am not planning currently to bring my Kayak tomorrow morning - I will be joining the group for the swim unless otherwise advised. So, if you are not completely comfortable, please call me tonight and let me know to bring my kayak - I may be asleep, but call until midnight.

I'm sorry, but I don't like some of the weather forecasts. I hope it warms up! The blood vessels in my feet close up when I ride in temps under 75. I'm not looking forward to a painful 112.

Any word on water temp?  I really don't want to have to make a decision about wearing a wetsuit.

whats with the weather the temp keeps going down but the wind keeps going up, now they are calling for NW winds @12mph with gusts of 20mph.  I would rather have heat than wind.

Yesterday, as of 1:35PM Local time, water temp at the Cannelton Lock & Dam was 76*. Since August 17, the water at Cannelton has been wetsuit legal. Cannelton is about 1/2 way between Louisville and Evansville. if I remember correctly, this temp reading is usually more consistent with the temp expected in Louisville than the Markland Dam temps, where the water is a bit shallower and warmer (79* at the last reading). I fully expect even if the water experiences a heating to a 78* or 79* reading, they will find cooler temps in the channel to record as the "official temp" - though I really don't see the water temps going up 2*-3* in the next couple of days. And, as a bonus, the current extended forecast for Sunday looks like a very nice day to go do a little short 140.6 mile race.

Someone said the downstream current was near 8 mph. Should make for a VERY fast swim.

Sunday's forecasts are crazy today.  Accuweather says high of 78, and weather.com is saying a high of 71, overcast, 20% chance of rain and a tailwind for the last 30 miles.  Could it be?  Don't chime in with your "I never trust a forecast, they're always wrong" negativity.  This week let's all think positive, happy thoughts.  I'll leave home my wetsuit and armwarmers if that will work like carrying an umbrella prevents rain.

Maura, I'll buy you some socks.

I like the tailwind part.  The tailwind last year heading home was awesome.

Forget socks, I've got some toe warmers.  Bring on the 70's.

I've been training in 95 degree heat since May so a 70 degree afternoon will feel downright cold.  I might need a sweater!!!

Unfortunately I just withdrew from Ironman Louisville....a fracture and torn tendon from bike crash....bummer!  Does anyone need a room at the Galt House?  I have a reservation for check-in on 8/27 and check-out on 8/31.  Good luck to all doing the race....the race conditions should be perfect!

So wait...cool weather and an outside chance of it being wetsuit legal?  Must be a sign of the apocolypse

Trigator,
Unfortunately I have withdrawn too. New baby that if I had known the timing of his arrival I would not have signed up for IMKY a year ago. Thought we could handle the 14 hour road trip with a newborn but it may be a bit much on my wife right now. So I too have a reservation at the Galt House if anyone wants it. Good luck to all of you, i'll be following online. I hope these weather reports hold true!! Sounds like PR conditions!!!

Seriously.  All that worrying about 95 degree temps all for not.  I'd say there's a very good chance that the forecast holds (in general terms) since several days on each side seem to also have cooler temperature.  Doesn't look that any pending heat waves could sneak in early.  Either way, anything cooler than 90 is all a bonus in my mind.
