Hey guys -

Very happy with the Feb. numbers.  It has not been easy keeping up with everything going on right now, but I did mange somehow.

Everyones' training seems to be solid.

Thomas hate to hear about the knee...hope the doctor has a solution and not bad news.

As for keeping the group going...I would love to...and I am making an effort to pop in more than I have been in the last few weeks.

Count me in for continuing the group...I enjoy the chatter since my wife can only take so much LOL.

Fred - Hope this achilles thing sorts itself out sooner rather than later.  Injuries suck!

I ran 9 this morning and hitting the pool again today.

It was really nice yesterday in the midwest so I do not blame you for getting a run in.  I was actually jealous of all the people running yesterday in the afternoon.  Then I had to remind myself that I already worked out twice today haha.

Have a good day peeps.

totally down for continuing group, this is one of the best ever!!!

I missed last night as i got home late and had a bunch of work to do to my race bikes, so i took a rest day, pool and bike tonight and run tomorrow.

TT bike is done and i just need to finish gluing up some tubulars to the Crit bike then i am all set.

pics to follow when it stops raining.

Bike:12h 01m 58s  - 220.31 Mi
Run:10h 38m 48s  - 69.69 Mi
Swim:

35m  - 1250 M

a bit off my goals, but the bike work was all quality.

missed a couple days running due to soreness and wifes travel, but i am still way ahead of last year running wise, bike is a bit short from last year, but the quality is there, and the swim....well......yeah, i got nuthin' but excuses for that pathetic performance.

Ooh Fred - what resort are you staying at? I think Disney is a complete marvel of organization.  We stayed at Port Orleans a couple of years ago and it was my first time at Disney and i thought it was all great! How are your kids liking it?

I will keep on checking in as long as the group goes as well.

though i am not posting my February numbers.  they are dismal. Vacation was a known but all of the other craziness and laziness is my own fault.  But March is a new month and Ironman training begins officially so i have 'the fear' which will be a big motivator to get consistent.

So, today - an hour on the bike and short ST.

I am not working out this morning (typical) so as a result I spend my day in pj's and I have to remind myself to go brush my teeth.  I get pretty lame when my workout is later in the day.  Probably reason number one for me to get my workouts in the morning.  lol

I'm in as long as the group is going...   Thomas and Fred, I know how hard it is dealing with injuries, especially at the beginning of the season, when all your plans are starting to get made (or have been made).  Personally, I find myself getting a bit depressed when that happens.  My wife, bless her heart, cringes when I say I got injured because she knows it ain't pretty.  Hang in there.....

I have battled hip tightness since last November, seems to come and go but it was really bad thru December, so I have to keep on the rolling etc to make sure it doesn't come back.  Jumped a little too high n run miles this month since that problem seemed to resolve, but been runing wuite a bit the last two weeks and it starts popping up again.  So I begged off this a.m's run, see what happens tonight after the swim, maybe run 3 on the treadie

February's totals:

Bike:21h 12m  - 379.5 Mi
Run:15h 08m 34s  - 97.35 Mi
Swim:8h 40m  - 27300 Yd
Massage:2h 00m

But my best number is my weight, down to 206.2, from a recent (Sept 2011) high of 235, and all time high (2004) of 275.  Almost to my Cal, 70.3 goal weight of 205    I just registered for an April Oly as a Clyde, hopefully I have to change that

Hey, really nice job everybody on your monthly totals.  Keep up the good work and consistency.

My February's totals:

Bike: 17h 25m  - 339.82 Mi
Run: 15h 37m 19s  - 112 Mi
Swim: 10h 23m  - 35000 Yd

I met my goals and I am really amazed where I am fitness wise.

Ain't that the truth!  Maybe the new BT website will have an intensity scale.

My improvised intensity scale easiest to hardest

1 - I take showers with more intensity
2 - I am get warmed up
3 - Now I am breaking a sweat
4 - Was that a little vomit
5 - Please make it stop

I'm not going anywhere as long as you continue to keep us Fred.    Your right, this is a good group.  Lots of knowledge and encouragement and just the right amount of HTFU statements.

I agree!  I really didn’t know there was an end date.

February is in the books.  I am very happy with my progress and consistency.  I'm equally happy that I've lost all my "winter weight".  14 pounds gone since Jan 1.

Monthly totals:
S:  17620.00 M - 6h 51m 41s
B:  222.09 Mi - 14h 36m 24s
R:  77.30 Mi - 11h 39m 23s

And I did swim tonight.  45 minutes on the trainer afterwards, too.  Tonight I felt the best I've ever felt in the water.  My main set was 1x300, 3x200, 1x300.  All were 1:47-1:52/100 meters.  That's a real break through for me as I am a very slow swimmer.

Happy training folks!

Congratulation on the weight loss and swim breakthrough!

Breakthroughs are always important, gives us that dangling carrot.

Nice job on the weight loss.  That will help with the training.  I am a slow swimmer as well and this week watched my 100 time dip down to about the 1:52 mark someone consistently...until I realized I was suppose to do 200's.  Felt good.  Can't wait until I am at 1:47.

Good morning all!  What is your training day filled with?

I have an AM run and a PM CT ride today.

Yesterday after that run I was wiped out.  That was a tiring day for some reason.  My swim yesterday was a 10x50’s repeat.  I went harder and bettered my times.  Still didn’t feel like puking.    I think I just don’t have the sprint swimming technique down yet.  This is only the second time ever I have done sets like this.

I have a 10 mile road race on 1 April.  My goal is1:15 time.  I really want a sub1:10 time.

It's been years since I ran a stand alone road race let alone a 10 miler.  Some of the biggest concerns I have are;

1.  I only feel 80% run fitness back after my 2010-2011 illness.  This is my third month in the upswing of recovery after my illness.  The distance is not a problem but I want speed with it.  I also just started doing some intensity and speed work.  I don’t know if I can get enough speed work in before the race.  My logs are open.

2.  My race strategy is, I don’t know, weak.  The course is flat with a couple of mile of packed gravel paths.  The race field will be less than 400.  My idea is to go out @8:00 pace and within the first mile dropping to what ever I need to get under1:10 time without blowing up or injured.  I plan to taper the week before the race so to have fresh legs.

Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thank you!  btw I posted this in TT as well.

Swim this morning and a speed run later on today.  I'll need it after sitting around in mind numbing interviews all morning.  I pity the person who goes last.

James, I have no advise for you cause well, I can't think that fast.  But, you do need to keep in mind your on your way back and temper your expectations.  You're still in the regaining your fitness phase, let alone regaining your speed phase.  But, I bet you surprise yourself with your results

I would start doing some tempo runs, maybe 3-5 miles in length, at 7 minutes per mile and see how you feel.  This will give you a good gauge.

IMO, if your goal is 1:10 and its realistic, then I would not go out at 8 min/mile for the first mile.  You put yourself in a deep hole right out of the gate.  My best races (10K to 15K) are when I have even split or gone out slightly faster in the first 2 miles.
