Master 1591![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() San Diego, CA | Subject: RE: Evondo's Group - CLOSED!bzgl40 - 2010-02-09 5:47 PM So, after a really hard long workout how do you treat yourself? For example, when I was training for marathons I always had a Snickers bar after my long runs (I think I waited until they got to 12 miles). I always carry a summit bar, which is just a chocolate bar (usually Snickers) that I eat only if I summit whatever mountain I am tackling at the time. I broke that rule once and ate the bar after a very bad and miserable attempt at a mountain once. We were all so miserable I said screw it, I am having my bar now (after we turned around). I perked up immediately My favorite post long race treat is a buffalo or in-n-out burger. No fries or soda. Races have to be at least Olympic distance or 1/2 marathon. I usually crave protein post long hard effort. A nice lean buffalo burger at Stone Brewery or a hamburger with grilled onions and no spread at in-n-out. I typically want nothing to do with sweets post race or hard effort, something nice and protein rich almost always sounds good. |

Master 1623![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Evondo's Group - CLOSED!I do the same thing. It's like "just push through this workout and then you can go get that lime slush from Sonic" lol. Honestly for me the best thing after a hard workout is drinking a bottle of really cold water and a nice long shower. Over christmas break, one of my friends invited me, my bf and another one of our friends over to his house to get in the jacuzzi after we had all spent a good hour and a half in the gym. That was really nice. Unfortunately i don't have access to a jacuzzi in Clemson. roadrhino - 2010-02-09 9:11 PMIt's not a routine thing, but sometimes to help get me through my workouts I will bargain with myself. Usually nothing too bad, but for example, during today's swim I kept promising myself a gas station cappuccino post-swim. It was a nice treat. Otherwise, I usually have a peanut butter and banana sandwich with chocolate milk after a hard workout (mostly after longer runs). I wish money were no object because I would definitely do a weekly massage if it were possible. I think I'm going to allow myself a massage once a month, though. And, as hard as it is for me to believe these days, I rarely have the desire for beer or any other alcohol, so I drink very little. My 25-year-old self would be aghast at the 32-year-old me. ![]() bzgl40 - 2010-02-09 7:47 PM So, after a really hard long workout how do you treat yourself? You are both amazing parents looking out for your little guys best interest. Many thanks to all cheering me on to find a way to get some training in while out of town for work. 27F (warm for many of you) without my running pants and long sleeve stuff since I planned to just get what I could out of the fitness room. I noticed the hotel I typically stay at has a decent loop around it with elevation changes and shoulder / sidewalk. I buy some stuff to keep from freezing at a local outlet mall and off I go. My Garmin somehow dies after standing in the cold for 10 minutes to allow it to find satelites. Apparently the thing ended up turned on in my luggage. I don't have the charger with me since the software cannot be installed on this work computer. I only tolerated 30 minutes and 2 loops but the workout was better than anything I could have mustered on the dreadmill. I did some strength work a bit this morning and will settle into the fitness room with Syracuse Basketball on the TV tonight. Let's hope my wife is able to hold down the fort one more day until I can get back and offer some bit of help. The heater went out last night adding a degree of difficulty in our home to my wife. My Garmin / temp /work challenges are easy compared to keeping 5 kids going in the right direction, fed and warm. Thanks again group. |

Triathlete Nation ~ Texas! | Subject: RE: Evondo's Group - CLOSED!Happy belated Birthday Mr. Everett! Handsome fella! Gonna swoon all the ladies for sure! Busy at work, early stages of getting sick (too worn down after lack of sleep this weekend I think has taken its toll). First ride on the PT last night... I enjoyed seeing the numbers & knowing I am now on the road to training with power, but I did not feel it yesterday at all! Was sweating like crazy and just didn't have it in me to push out a decent effort. The numbers were a little defeating...BUT, I know things will be different once I can get outside and feel better as well. Great training everyone has been posting... I can't seem to keep up with the inspires or the posts this go round... But y'all are all posting some great numbers, efforts, and awesome consistency! There is gonna be some great racing by this group this year! Keep it up! I have access to a heated outdoor pool, that I used a lot last year... I can't seem to bring myself to use it yet this year... I have been a real wuss when it comes to the cold. It's the getting out that just kills me! And the shrinkage! Frightening! I have been using the indoor pool at LA Fitness thus far, but it is not as condusive to my schedule as the other pool is... so I have only been swimming once and some or maybe twice a week. I NEED to swim at least twice, preferrably 3x's a week... so I can make sure I stay ahead of fatty! HA! Happy Hump Day Y'all! I'll check back when I can... Y'all keep rockin' it! |

Well... she calls me and says see found a pair of speedo brand swim swim trunks that look like my tri shorts except red on sale for $20 dollars. I said, "thats fine, thanks". We she gets home she hands me a fire engine red pair of "boy shorts", the kind with the 2 inch inseam. Nothing like my tri shorts. Talk about shrinkage and scary...... but yes I do wear them. Not going to waste $20.00. Trin2bfast - 2010-02-10 9:13 AM Happy belated Birthday Mr. Everett! Handsome fella! Gonna swoon all the ladies for sure! Pro 4824![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Houston | Subject: RE: Evondo's Group - CLOSED!I didn't have BT for most of yesterday and last night, my computer just wouldn't come here. Another Happy Birthday to Everett!!! Such a cutie pie! It is hard for me when Ken is out of town, not only do I miss him but I have 5 kids going in different directions so logistics are tricky. Our oldest isn't driving yet. This week is trickier than most because Brendan will be showing his pig, Olivia this weekend so there have been a lot of preparatons leading up to that. Add in religious education for 4 kids on 2 different nights, basketball games, ballet, girl scouts, a playdate, visiting the animals at the livestock show, an orthodontic appointment and a gymnastic class and well.... I'm just a little busy. It was pretty easy to come up with several excuses not to get on the trainer last night but at 10:30 I realized I couldn't live with myself and got suited up for 10 miles. Now I have to get some work done, straighten up the house, school the girls, buy some more pig feed, pick up some girl scout badges, try to make it to the grocery store, get one to ballet and move the pig to her new temporary home, embroider Brendan's FFA jacket, buy and address Valentines for the girls and TRY to figure out a time I can pick up Girl Scout cookies in Tomball. Oh and at some point I need to figure out if I can be home long enough to meet the heater guy. Obviously the husband is out of town so my hump day aint so happy. Too much to catch up on but....Emma, key is to get some ows experience before the race. Go ahead and order your wetsuit, then as soon as it's warm enough find a place (with life guard or where someone can kayak with you) and swim. It is different than the pool, but you may find that you enjoy it more. At any rate, the practice swims will take some of the unkown out of your first tri. Emmanem - 2010-02-09 6:03 PM Apparently for the tri in May it will be wetsuit legal and apparently the lake never gets to be too warm so I'm going to have to start looking for a wetsuit. Betsy0706 - 2010-02-09 11:00 AM If I can do it - anyone can do it! I'm certain you will be fine. In May - will the water be wetsuit legal? Cool about the bf's hobby. I always admired people who can see a potential shot in everything! Emmanem - 2010-02-09 9:29 AM Happy Tuesday! I definitely swim indoors but over the weekend my boyfriend wanted to go take pictures... He got a fancy camera over the summer and loves taking pictures and then messing around with them in photoshop. He's taken some really pretty pictures and I'm usually the camera bag/lens cap holder lol. Anyway we went out to the lake where I'll be swimming for my tri in May. I've been a little scared of the thought of an OWS for a while and the first thing I see when we get out there is a sign informing me 200 people have drowned in the lake. How very uplifting! Then we walk out on a little dock and I realize I really don't like open water at all. I mean it is really pretty scary to me... so once Clemson gets some nicer weather I have a fear to conquer! evondo - 2010-02-09 8:56 AM Happy Tuesday everyone! Just when I thought winter was gone and done with, 40F w/20+mph winds this AM. It was quite chilly jumping in the water, took the whole warmup to get warm. I'm guessing most of our northern folks all have indoor pools that they go to? Anyone else swim outside in the winter? |

I'm about done pouting that I can't train for a few weeks so I should be around again pretty regularly. I'm jealous of everyone's snow days, but am also glad that I don't have to shovel it! Emma, open water swimming scared the hell out of me at first too. I had some really weird fears about it that I won't share as it will probably just freak you out more, but as everyone has said, practice will help a lot. Make sure to get out in a lake a few times before you race, it will help tremendously with your confidence. Happy belated birthday to Everett! I'm not a big baby person (okay okay, I actually never want children ever) but he's a total cutie. To everyone else... HIIIIIIIII. Happy Thursday. I'm so ready for a lazy weekend. |
