I have to get up really early Saturday morning (to leave for a bachelorette party of all things) so I think I will just be casually observing....thank goodness.

I could be wrong but I thought I read somewhere that Phelps wasn't going to march in the opening??

I'd be wasted in no time flat too.  I am too old to drink like that.

Does the Olympic Games logo drive anybody else crazy? Like you want to put the broken bits together to make something sensible, like, I don't know, a square?

Pretty much!  There's going to be a lot of talking about Michael Phelps.  And there are always tons of sob stories during the opening ceremonies.  I could do this with water and be super hydrated.

I LOVED the Vancouver mascots!  They were so cute. The Beijing ones were also a little strange.

Right, right? I actually don't remember any other olympic mascots ... maybe Sydney had a koala or a Kangaroo? I do remember the cool "We are the World" type song they had for the Seoul Olympics, though.

I did take my ex-MIL (she's still my Mama, though! to now!) to the Salt Lake City Olympics to watch ice skating because she loved ice skating so much and followed all the skaters every year. It was so awesome.

It's interesting to me how opinions change after the fact!  Many in the media HATED the mascots initially, said the Vancouver Games were shaping up (before they had even started) to be the WORST games ever.  Now the mascots were great, and they were up among the best games ever!!  I can tell you, I volunteered and had a blast.  One of the best experiences of my life.  (And I only just realized that the logo for London was the year.  I didn't look too hard, to be honest, but it should not be difficult to pick out what a logo means...)

HAHAHA! "Hand in Hand" was the song!!! But funny you mention "We are the World" because I was at a halloween party a few years ago and my friends had dressed up as Angelina and Brad Pitt and all their kids and they did a group karaoke of the song. It was ridiculously epic.

In other news, WTH is up with my weird capitalization lately?

In other strange news, my BF and I went to a Hallowe'en party dressed as Brangelina. I wonder if I can find the pics somewhere ... other than that we are much huger than they are, and actually look like Janeane Garofalo and Chris O'Donnell (him a dead ringer), everyone did know who we were right away.
