ebshot - 2012-08-29 2:54 AM Hi guys.  Drive by post.  Life is very, very, very, very (get the picture) difficult right now.  My son is hospitalized right now.  He's been in the hospital since Friday and we do not know when he will be discharged.  I'm burning the candle at both ends and am beyond exhausted.  Any good thoughts/vibes/prayers you can spare would be appreciated.

So much love to you, Erica ... and as always, prayers every single day. Many of us will make it a point to check in on you often.

Thanks Yanti.  For obvious reasons I have made my training log friends only and I only have a few people on the list.  I'll try to pop in here a bit more and update as I can.

YES!

No?

Surely not RACING every single one of them, though?

I am trying to fit a bunch of Pop Tarts (a slightly bunch less than I received, but still) into a suitcase. I even bought a new suitcase for them!

It was all going really well until I remembered I'd also bought myself five new pairs of running shoes.

They were $25 apiece. It pays to live in a country that manufactures a lot of the top-brand sporting shoes.

I'm thinking Pop-Tart/Shoe trade business opportunity.

I don't think that's possible (for me.) I think the first one will be an "A" ish race and  the subsequent races will be what they will. I will run them as I am able but no goals or anything.

What do you think?

I dunno. You wanna? You have the legs and massive base for it, that's for sure.

How do you plan to structure your runs during the week?

Well, I plan to give myself more of a rest day come Monday than usual and a day off before the race but other than that, much of the same, acting as if the HM is just another long run (A HM pace long run )

You can tell me no, I need to hear it every now and again. BUT the reason I'm not concerned about it is because I am leaning towards not doing another marathon until Boston, using fall to do a bunch of races I have wanted to do and just enjoying some flexibility until marathon training.

Exact structure:

Monday: Rest/Off

Tuesday: AM Tempo, PM Recovery

Wednesday: Medium Long Run

Thursday: AM Recovery, PM Tempo

Friday: Medium Tempo

Saturday: Off

Sunday: Race

Well, I have just been slowly ramping up post marathon and throwing in some swimming. So my past month isn't really an indicator. My standard training when I am run specific is this:

Monday: Easy 5

Tuesday: AM Tempo (3 to 6 miles), PM Recovery (4-6 miles)

Wednesday: Medium Long Run (7-11 miles)

Thursday: AM Recovery (4-6 miles), PM Tempo (3-6 miles)

Friday: Medium Tempo (5-8 miles)

Saturday: Off or easy 1-3 miles

Sunday: Long run (13-20 miles)

I do 3 weeks of build followed by a step back week.

Here's what I'm thinking (random thoughts, really. May be important, may be not). Your "racing week" schedule looks really top heavy in the Tue-Wed-Thur peak. If you're going to add intensity into the training load, especially when it's one big block in one race, it's even more important to balance out the rest of the week. AND I'd keep the frequency up, not down. You might want to take one of the two-a-days and shift one of those workouts to Saturday, and make it something like a (very) short HM or M race pace run, and keep the other as is or shift its recovery run to Monday. And make it a REALLY EASY, I'm talking Zone 1 barely off the couch easy recovery run.

I'm also not sure why the FIRST race should be an A race. It'd make more sense to me to do it like this: A-, B, A+, whatever-the-hell-you-can-do.

Also, 3 on, 1 back may not be the wisest for a four-races month. 1 on, 1 back, or 2 on, 1 back, 1 whatever (evaluate when you're there).

Shoot me. I don't think it's a terrible idea for you to race every weekend. It's early enough in the "racing year" (if Boston is the apex) that even if it is a not particularly good idea, you'll find out pretty fast, be able to adjust the rest of the month, and recover well from the not-goodness.

Yes ma'am, obey I will!!!

Really there are only 2 HMs for sure and 1 maybe. If I am reading this correctly, I think I just go the go-ahead Smile

Well I am certainly no authority on training schedules, but it seems like you really thrive off of high mileage runs AND you are very smart at listening to your body, so like Yanti said, why not go for it, it if feels wrong, bail on the races or don't "race" them.  And as someone who hardly ever "races" a race, you can still have a good time just doing a HM as a training run with a really big group of training buddies!

Yeah, totally, and I have no problem easing back if I'm not up to racing hard.

I should have mentioned, too, that one of the HMs is called "The Salty Half" and it's in my neighborhood. According to Yanti's grading schedule, that should be my A+, too.

Destiny? I THINK SO!

ebshot - 2012-08-28 1:54 PM Hi guys.  Drive by post.  Life is very, very, very, very (get the picture) difficult right now.  My son is hospitalized right now.  He's been in the hospital since Friday and we do not know when he will be discharged.  I'm burning the candle at both ends and am beyond exhausted.  Any good thoughts/vibes/prayers you can spare would be appreciated.

sorry to hear about your son - hope he feels well enough to come home soon.  In the meantime, make sure you  eat healthy and get as much rest as you can so you can give him 100% when he does come home.  if you don't take care of yourself you can't take care of anyone else.  Big hugs.

So I shouldn't have inhaled an entire pan of brownies yesterday??  Whoops.    I am running on little sleep but last night I did get some good rest.

Chocolate is a vegetable. Eggs are good for you. I don't see the problem here.

Yanti, I love your rationalization.

Now I want brownies.

My back is on fire. This sucks. I know my shorts are going to rub it terribly when I run, too. Bleh. The only thing that could make this better would be brownies. I need the egg and chocolate.

Ohh no, and my running buddie just sent me a text saying it is likely she will be spening more time on toilet than on pavement and probably won't make the run.

One of them days!

So much love to you, Erica ... and as always, prayers every single day. Many of us will make it a point to check in on you often.
