So with yours, reset your expectations. Relearn what your capability is while in aero and go from there. Kind of forget about upright or road bike power.

This is the part I'll struggle with - but undertsand it should help me.  I've never tested in aero - not once, and always used those power tests as my basis for riding.  It obviously didn't impact me on the trainer as much, but come time to ride on the road, I could still use those numbers.  But I do think I need to reset expectations.

I also agree with a couple of people who ahve suggested that ramping up the swimming maybe hurting the riding a bit.  Not something I thought about, but for now I'm willing to do the trade off since I really need to improve in the water.

Yesterday I was on a roll. I swam 2000m in the morning, biked 22 miles in the afternoon and ran 3 last night.

I got on the trainer this morning and kinda died after 40 minutes.

I'm looking at my "planned" workout minutes in my training log and they are really creeping up slowwwly this week.

My body won't do what I want it to!

Did my strength training this morning (arms are now toast) but I think I am going to take a cardio break.  Unless the warm afternoon draw gets too strong....

Thanks for the well wishes!

On the bright side, I "tested the waters" with the world's easiest 2500m swim this morning. It was fine except open turns only 'cause flipping made it feel like my sinuses were going to blow out of my face!

On the bright side, the cough seems to have dried up a little and died down a little.

On the down side, my head is completely congested, but it's better than having my chest congested and wheezing.

On the down side, I'm rocking a 101-102 F fever tonight.

So it's rest, rest, more rest for me.

I'm still believing that this down time is helping to build back and consolidate all the hard training I've done! I mean, a better attitude can't hurt and I feel a lot better being positive than ... well ... than feeling crappy! I already physically feel crappy enough, no need to pile it on myself.

Let's talk running shoes.  Specifically, do you train and race in the same shoes?  I currently train and race in Asics Gel Cumulus.  I've been using them since they were version 8, currently at 14.  I've also experimented with Kinvaras but never fell in love with them (although they feel great to run in).

I tried on a pair of Zoot Ultra TT 5.0 at IMMT last year and they felt fantastic and was thinking of trying them for races (haven't bought any yet).  I'm wondering though if I were to try them and like them, would I be better off just using them all the time?  On sale, the cost difference isn't all that much but I would have to rely on buying them online rather than locally.

So, what do you guys and gals do?

My husband and I both used to run in Cumulus.  Then I fractured my heel, an over-use injury and realized I needed to change my running style - heel striker.  Nothing wrong with heel striking just wasn't working for me.

The Cumulus is a good shoe but has a lot of 'junk in the trunk' making mid foot striking difficult.  We both moved to the Brooks Launch which I loved - less shoe and a little lighter but all the comfort.  Then I moved to the Newton Gravity which is now my long run shoe and LOVE the Brooks Pure Connect for anything under 6 miles.  Rotating shoes allows them to dry out - we live in SUPER humid Houston and the shoes last longer.  I also think it is good for my body to run on different shoes.

The Launch is still Ken's long distance shoe, he recently got a pair of Gravity's but the jury is still out.

We both race sprint tri's in Zoots.

Story:  I come from a family of athletes, dad got into running craze in the 70's.  Originally from Boston, ran and wrestled in high school in Naples Florida.  Dad's run 5 Marathons, and a half Ironman; Identical Twin brother done 3 IM and lots of endurance events; Sister's run 2 marathons.  Got into tri's after high school in middle 80's had a lot of fun, then off to college, etc.  Been fortunate enough do an Ironman in 2011, and a HIM in 2011, and ran the Chicago Marathon twice.  I'm certainly not the fastest, but am a good bar bet to finish.

Family Status: Living with GF

Current Training: As crazy as it sounds I'm taking time off from tri training till March 2013, Have done Crossfit (which I love) for the last four months.  Crossfit is a killer, I'm sore every day, definitely a change to endurance training.

2013 Schedule:

April - 10K Phil. run

June - Naples Fitness Challenge (Sprint Tri)

Oct - Ironman Miami 70.3

Jan 2014 HITS full IM Naples FL

Weight Loss Goal:  None really I'm 5'4" tall and 185 pounds while training for the IM in 2011 I lost maybe 5 pounds, yeah I admit it I love Ben and Jerry's

Winter Training Goals: Survive Crossfit Training till March and hit it hard.  I live in Florida weather not a factor in training

What makes me a good group member?: I don't know, people like me......

Thankfully, nothing materialized.  They called off any potential watches or warnings a few hours after the earthquake.  After I thought about it, I was actually more concerned for Yanti who is much closer to the earthquake.  But seems like she's okay as well.

Welcome Rob.

Now let's talk race tires.  Interesting post by a friend on facebook.  Who rides on what?  I will admit that I have raced on Gatorskins since I started.  I was always of the opinion I wasn't that fast anyway, who cares?  Same reason I didn't use an aero helmet until last year.  I won't be using Gatorskins this year.  Actually, I take that all back....  I put Continental race tires on my HEDs last year, just don't recall which kind....  ETA - Sorry about the size!

I have raced on the Vittoria EVO Corsa CX 23, the Continental GP4000s and for IMMT I had on Michelin Pro Race 4s for no reason other than they had red sidewalls that matched my bike. Embarassed

Now that I see that chart, I hate myself for it, 0.34 MPH loss over the Vittorias.  I think I will have to buy a new pair of them, I really liked how they felt when I used them.

I've been racing on the R4 Aeros (bottom of this page):

http://www.slowtwitch.com/Products/Things_that_Roll/Tires/Fast_Tires_for_2012_-_1_2684.html

In addition to what they've written there, I subjectively like the ride comfort on those tires.

Also, what type of wheels?  For comfort I've found spoked wheels to be a little more forgiving than say a HED3, regardless of tire
