In the spirit of the soccer context I scored on a "free kick" last night.    Was supposed to swim and had a race clinic at 6:30pm.  Hubby was working late so I moved my swim to this morning, grabbed some subs and brought it into the office so we could eat together.  Good thing too, cause I didn't get home until almost 9.  Hoping that bonus point will pay off later in the game when I really need it!

No red cards here thankfully and sorry to hear that anyone is getting yellows. I did notice some justifable frustration/grumpiness so I started giving up an easy run or swim here or there, and making time for more date nights and family outings. Nonetheless, I am trying to make sure my key long workouts are getting done because I don't want to a baby on the side of the road crying with a wet diaper at IMCDA!

My fitness is coming along really nicely (not just via feel but via data). For those of you training with power and using training peaks online, there is the performance management chart which lets you see your fitness, fatigue, and readiness to race. I am liking the looks of my chart except for the fatigue. However, that will improve with a taper. Just got to get there in one piece haha

It is sitting in my outbox and will not leave, odd...

here is what I was going to say, no big deal posting it here.  Only thing is, PLEASE do not contact her until I cancel.  If you want to contact her, just let me know when so I can send her an email first.

Todd,

BT kinda flubs out on my work computer sometimes. Anyhow, here is the VRBO link. When you look at the pics the last 2 overlooking the lake, the road in front in the pic is the bike course and the little trail next to it is the run course. The cool thing is that is the out nd back, so you run and bike by this property 4 times each (8 times total), so your family can stay in the house all day if they want and see you every few hours.

http://www.vrbo.com/21953

She requires a 6 night minimum IM week, which is actually what you really want based on my experience at IMLP. I know you said you have the room Thurs - Sun nights. Here is why I feel 6 nights is perfect if you can swing it. If Wed is your fisrt night, the day is shot traveling. This gives you thursday to relax and enjoy the town. Fri and Sat get absolutelly CONSUMED by race stuff (morning swims, driving the bike course, riding the run course, bike check in, etc... Sunday is the race, On mmonday the LAST thing you will want to do is travel, leave on Tuesday. At IMLP I came in Thursday and felt rushed all week and wished i had come in a day earlier, but was SUPER glad I stayed until Tuesday.

Let me know if you have any interest because i am going to contact her this weekend and would love to be able to tell her I have somebody interested.

Speaking of housing in town.  So, my brother had to go and get himself engaged and is getting married on 2 July.  IMCdA was going to be family vacation, but eh, not so much now, since everyone will be heading to TX and not ID (Weddings > IM and should be!). I do have 1-2 friends that will be joining me for the race as support, but I have a 3 bedroom house with 2 queens, 1 double, and 1 queen sofa sleeper. If any one person or a couple is looking for a place, I'm prepared to be VERY reasonable with sharing it/cost (not asking for full split at all!). I have it from the 23rd-30th, but will actually be leaving out on the 29th (going to fly out of Spokane to TX, then back to Spokane to drive back to San Diego...phew)--so depending upon how long you'd like to stay you can pretty much have all of Wed/Thurs for yourself.  The place is in downtown CdA, 4 blocks for Sherman avenue--very accessible to the course and walking distance from the finish line.  Send me a PM if you're interested and we can work something out for sure!

Everyone is so quiet.  So I'll ask a question.

I've been training by feel and old testing numbers, but I would like to test again to get accurate HR/Power ranges before hitting peak training.  I have a HIM on 4/16.  Do you think I will get more accurate numbers testing (functional threshold on bike and run) the wednesday/thursday before this race or waiting until the saturday/sunday following the race?  I am not really tapering before the race but will ramp down a bit. After the race, I plan on a week of around 10 hours of training in zone 1.

Good question. Do you have a place that you can go to that will do testing for you? A lot of large gyms offer some sort of HR testing. I had mine done early last year, and it was worth it. If not, you can do any basic TT set to test your max HR and just do some math from there to get your zones.

As far as when to do it, I would say before might be better in this case. If you do a light taper you will be able to hit higher numbers than if you were tired (like after finishing the HIM). Just know, doing a TT set to get your HR zones is going to hurt, so time it when you think you can get the most out of the set.

Looks like we are losing people as we get closer.  Sucks to here.  I finally had time today to look at my race info from 70.3CA last week.  Great race highly recommend it.  I got to verify my nutrition and felt great at the end of the race, which is all I really cared about.  We actually went to lunch which is a fist for me.  Normally I feel horrible after the race.  One thing I would recommend not doing is Disney land prior to the race.  Mickey and Minnie will smoke you.

Gulp.  We don't have hills in Dallas.  I did 80 miles on the bike and the back 40 miles were all against a sustained 20-25mph wind.  Sucked just as much as hills.

I had a pretty good week.  3.5 hours in the 50 meter open air pool at SMU.  A thirty minute open water swim with TTT.  Just over 10 hours on the bike.  About 5 hours of running.  The most hours to date for a week, 19.

People are dropping but one is coming back.... me. Four months of none to crap training leaves me overweight and out of shape but 11 weeks to fix that. Weather might finally break here in Michigan so here we go!

I'm back, too.  I've been lurking but haven't had anything to contribute.  I'm following my plan, but have definitely had moments recently where I feel like it isn't enough and that I'm going to have a hard time with the IM.  Of course, I know to trust the plan and that it will be fine.  Just anxiety I guess.  How is everyone else feeling?

Indeed! I think it's sometimes harder to tackle IM when you know what to expect and when you aren't for whatever reason where you were the last time. I'm just telling myself to focus on getting to the starting line and the rest will sort itself out.

Hang in there everyone! One thing that I've found helpful is visit each other's logs. Get ideas, provide encouragement, make a friend! It really helps to reenforce the community part of our online training

And I'm lucky enough that Leopard checks in on my logs.  Sometimes that 1 inspire is the only thing that gets me off the couch.  BT rocks!

SarahK is right. Sometimes when I am ready to pack it in early or not head out, I think of an inspire and it counteracts the negative thought. I really dig the bT community. In fact I got to hang with some BT folks I've never met in the big city last night and had a ball. It was like seeing old friends, but we had never met.

To answer nerdjock, you may think you are the only one, but even the slayer feels like he's not doing enough. It all depends on your goals and expectations though.

I'm back too. My first first tri ths year is next weekend (OLY) so I wanted to get more CDA info.

My coaches say it is normal that most of us have concerns that we're not doing enough.  My plan has tons of volume, and I'm wondering that I might be doing too much, but I'm listening  to my body.  Good training to everyone.

So I had a bit of a "duh" moment this morning. During a swim (supposed to be 3800m) I was lightheaded and dizzy, when everything just started spinning. Quit about 2k in, and realized how dehydrated I was. Being outside so much this weekend made me a lot more dehydrated than I thought, and it definitely caused my workout to suffer.

So remember kids, hydrate! Especially as the weather heats up more, proper hydration and recovery is key to being able to hit every workout hard!

Haha man that stinks. I had the opposite problem. After my longest ride ever Friday, I grabbed a gallon jug of pre-mixed Long island Tea and swigged it down like it was a big gulp of diet cola. The rest of the weekend was a blur of run then beer; so I have hydrated too much and now feel like rubbish 8)

Hey CdA peeps--are you ready to DIG IN and DIG DEEP cause it's that time--with just over 8 weeks till "go" time, now is when those workouts start really pushing you, fatigue starts becoming more common, and you question your sanity--BUT remember, the goal is worth the prize, and really, the training is harder than the race.  Just like in the Army we talk about "the more you sweat in peace, the less you bleed in war," every tough day that you conquer during training will make race day that much more enjoyable--harness the power of that, and use it to dig down deep!!

I just had a total freak out moment.  I though I was counting my weeks wrong.  I'm sure you ment, 8 weeks training + 3 week taper = 11 weeks to go.

Good thing I said over, cause it is over...basically I hate math and was taking a break from reading an absolutely boring article and simply counted from the wrong week on my calendar.

SORRY FOR THE FREAK OUT MOMENT...it is over 8 weeks...+3, but the verbage still holds true!

Woops...see, that's what a low workout week (this past week was major recovery) will do to you, totally whacked me out!
